Book excerpt: Introduction : la plongée est un sport populaire mais physiologiquement contraignant. Certaines pathologies peuvent provoquer des accidents graves. L'objectif principal était de décrire l'état de santé des plongeurs loisirs. Méthode : étude observationnelle, descriptive, de prévalence, transversale. Elle s'est déroulée sur l'île de la Réunion entre le 15 décembre 2016 et le 15 mars 2017 via un questionnaire papier anonyme auto-déclaratif mis à disposition des plongeurs dans 22 clubs de l'île. Résultats : 75,1 % des 519 participants présentent au moins un antécédent médical à risque pour la pratique de la plongée sous-marine. Les antécédents à risque concernent majoritairement l'appareil ORL, l'appareil ophtalmologique et l'appareil respiratoire. Certains continuent de plonger malgré des contre-indications manifestes (grossesse, épilepsie...). Les plongeurs possèdent un certificat médical d'absence de contre-indication datant de moins d'un an dans 60 % des cas. La visite médicale est effectuée par un médecin spécialisé en plongée dans 45,3 % des cas et par le médecin traitant dans 29,3 % des cas. A l'issue de la visite médicale d'absence de contre-indication, 6,6 % des plongeurs bénéficient d'explorations complémentaires et la plupart sont prescrites pour des plongeurs sans antécédent. Beaucoup de plongeurs s'estiment capables de juger par eux-mêmes leur aptitude à pratiquer la plongée sous-marine et n'iraient pas consulter tous les ans si cette visite était facultative. Conclusion : devant la proportion significative de plongeurs présentant une condition médicale à risque, il apparaît important de réévaluer la méthode actuelle de dépistage et de promouvoir une surveillance continue des plongeurs.
