Download or read book HARNESSING THE ROLE OF RURAL ORGANIZATIONS IN SOCIAL PROTECTION written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2018-10-12 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study presents an inventory of practices highlighting the role rural organizations play in: (i) delivering member-based social assistance and insurance, and other complementary services; and (ii) collaborating with national and international counterparts in the delivery of national and international social protection programmes. The inventory builds on an initial review made by FAO in 2014. As a follow-up, in 2015 FAO issued a call for proposals from development agencies and international organizations in order to collect relevant experiences. The results were shared through a webinar held at the end of 2015. The process culminated with this report and a series of case studies (case studies are annexed at the end of this report). This inventory should contribute to enhancing the understanding of development practitioners regarding the strengths, limitations and opportunities associated with a stronger and more systematic role of rural organizations in SP.

Download or read book Readings in the Sociology of Migration written by Clifford J. Jansen and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-04-20 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Readings in the Sociology of Migration deals with migration as a sociological problem, with greater emphasis on internal migrations than on international migrations. Some of the problems covered by sociological inquiry in the study of migration are discussed, along with theories of migration such as the push-pull theory, differential migration, and motivation for migration. This book is comprised of 16 chapters and opens by outlining types of migration according to the professional and social composition of migrants: mass migration, economic migration from an underdeveloped country, economic emigration from an industrial country, and immigration into an industrial nation. A general typology of migration is then presented before the problem of migration in various countries such as Britain, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, and the United States is considered. The final chapter presents preliminary findings from a demographic and socioeconomic sample survey of the population of the metropolitan area of San Salvador, El Salvador. This monograph will be a useful resource for sociologists and policymakers concerned with migration.
