Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first hospital-affiliated surgical unit designed specifically for ambulatory surgery in the state of California began functioning as part of Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in 1973. As this text is readied for publication, the unit is in its tenth year of operation. More than 20,000 patients have undergone surgery there. The enthusiasm generated by ~\ir experience in Santa Barbara, along with the widespread, growing interest in ambulatory surgery, prompted us to undertake this volume. The first three chapters cover principles and administrative aspects, an esthesiology, and nursing in the ambulatory surgical center. Subsequent chap ters, the major portion of the text, provide detailed, meticulously illustrated descriptions of surgical procedures as they are done in the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital Outpatient Surgical Center by the surgeons who work there. They reflect current practice and emphasize the techniques found most reliable by the surgeons who use them in the outpatient setting. This manual includes many of the operations most commonly performed in our facility and emphasizes the unique aspects of surgery and patient care in outpatient practice. The text is concise, practical, and based on our collective experience. The illustrations are, for the most part, drawn from the surgeon's perspective and faithfully render the actual appearance of the operative field during surgery. Supplementary cross-sectional and conceptual drawings are included to orient the reader.

Book Ambulatory Urology and Urogynaecology

Download or read book Ambulatory Urology and Urogynaecology written by Abhay Rane and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2021-01-13 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: According to the International Association for Ambulatory Surgery (IAAS), ambulatory surgery should be defined as 'an operation/procedure, excluding an office or outpatient operation/procedure, where the patient is discharged on the same working day'. The rise of ambulatory surgery has been driven by technological advances that reduce the need for overnight hospital stays, enhanced recovery programmes that advocate early mobilisation, and the need for economic efficiency. Recent experience has shown that redistributing surgical procedures from the inpatient setting to ambulatory centres can be done without impacting quality. The majority of people requiring urologic surgery are now treated as day/outpatients thus requiring a different level of care from inpatients. Ambulatory Urology and Urogynaecology is the only book that combines urology and urogynaecology focuses on outpatient management. Packed with learning points, practical hints and tips, and boasting an international group of contributing authors, this book is co-edited by world-leading pioneers in urologic and urogynaecological surgery. Ambulatory Urology and Urogynaecology is ideal for urologists, urogynaecologists and gynaecologists, as well as specialist urology nurses and surgeons. With more and outpatient procedures being performed, this book is the perfect step-by-step guide to consult time and time again.

Book Ambulatory Gynaecology

Download or read book Ambulatory Gynaecology written by Kevin Jones and published by RCOG. This book was released on 2008-04 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book sets out how the concept of ambulatory gynaecology can be applied to the main areas of gynaecological practice. It describes how national guidelines can be integrated into modern gynaecological practice in the context of the Government's National Health Service (NHS) plan and provides an essential guide to all practising clinicians." "A change from traditional care pathways to more cost effective, patient-centred approaches to medical practice lies at the heart of modern health service management. A 'see and treat' management philosophy is growing. 'One stop' clinics and 'day surgery' operations are replacing traditional outpatient consultations and inpatient surgery and the term 'ambulatory gynaecology' is being adopted to describe this philosophy."--BOOK JACKET.
