Book Petroleum Exploration A Quantitative Introduction

Download or read book Petroleum Exploration A Quantitative Introduction written by Ray L. Sengbush and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about exploration for oil and gas and focuses particularly on seismic exploration in the hunt for hydrocarbons. The first part, "The Hunt for Hydrocarbons," gives general background informa tion, with an introductory chapter on the beginnings of the oil business followed by three chapters that in clude elements of petroleum geology, geophysical methods, and drilling and logging. The second part, "Seismic Exploration for Hydrocarbons," consists of two chapters that describe rudiments of the seismic method and velocity measurements; two chapters dis cussing theory based on wave propagation and the convolutional model; and a chapter devoted to each of the three phases of seismic exploration: acquisi tion, processing, and interpretation. I have concen trated on seismic exploration because most of the oil and gas that has been found has been located by this method, and it is the only method that has the poten tial for the increased precision needed in what Hal bouty (1982) calls "the deliberate search for the subtle trap. " In contrast to elementary and introductory books that present the seismic method superficially and qualitatively, this book develops the method quanti tatively, using only elementary mathematics (algebra and trigonometry), so that readers should be able to do things afterwards that they couldn't do before, and thereby get a deeper appreciation of the business of hunting for hydrocarbons. The book also probes into some sophisticated topics that wouldn't be mentioned IX x use in short courses at a variety of levels.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elements of Petroleum Geology, Fourth Edition is a useful primer for geophysicists, geologists and petroleum engineers in the oil industry who wish to expand their knowledge beyond their specialized area. It is also an excellent introductory text for a university course in petroleum geoscience. This updated edition includes new case studies on non-conventional exploration, including tight oil and shale gas exploration, as well as coverage of the impacts on petroleum geology on the environment. Sections on shale reservoirs, flow units and containers, IOR and EOR, giant petroleum provinces, halo reservoirs, and resource estimation methods are also expanded. Written by a preeminent petroleum geologist and sedimentologist with decades of petroleum exploration in remote corners of the world Covers information pertinent to everyone working in the oil and gas industry, especially geophysicists, geologists and petroleum reservoir engineers Fully revised with updated references and expanded coverage of topics and new case studies

Download or read book Oil and Gas Exploration written by Said Gaci and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-02-17 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Oil and Gas Exploration: Methods and Application presents a summary of new results related to oil and gas prospecting that are useful for theoreticians and practical professionals. The study of oil and gas complexes and intrusions occurring in sedimentary basins is crucial for identifying the location of oil and gas fields and for making accurate predictions on oil findings. Volume highlights include: Advanced geophysical techniques for achieving hydrocarbon exploration efficiency from beneath the Earth Discussion of theoretical and practical approaches in solving problems related to exploring and mining new oil and gas deposits New geological concepts for predicting potential hydrocarbon targets Novel methods of control of the outworking of these deposits using different geophysical methods, significant for optimization of mining hydrocarbon and carbonate deposits Estimation of the degree of outworking of oil and gas deposits, to facilitate the use of space-time monitoring of different kinds of fields Analysis of exploration data by an efficient processing system, based on strong methods proven mathematically Oil and Gas Exploration is a valuable resource for exploration geophysicists, petroleum engineers, geoengineers, petrologists, mining engineers, and economic geologists, who will gain insights into exploring new methods involved in finding natural resources from our Earth. Book Introduction to Petroleum Exploration for Non geologists

Download or read book Introduction to Petroleum Exploration for Non geologists written by Robert Stoneley and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique text offers a friendly, fascinating introduction to the world of petroleum exploration for readers with little or no technical background on the subject. Refreshingly clear and jargon-free, the book covers a wide range of topics, including the underlying rationale for exploration, essential basic geological and geophysical exploration techniques, drilling and logging wells, reserves, and an outline of reservoir geology. A helpful case history of exploration in the North Sea is presented to illustrate how the numerous processes work together, and a lengthy glossary of technical terms serves as an invaluable aid for those approaching the subject for the first time. Perfect for all those interested in petroleum exploration, the book will be especially welcomed by students and by non-geologists working in industry, such as draughtspeople, engineers, accountants, and lawyers.

Book Petroleum Geoscience

    Book Details:
  • Author : Jon G. Gluyas
  • Publisher : John Wiley & Sons

Download or read book Petroleum Geoscience written by Jon G. Gluyas and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-04-25 with total page 672 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Petroleum Geoscience is a comprehensive introduction to the application of geology and geophysics to the search for and production of oil and gas. Uniquely, this book is structured to reflect the sequential and cyclical processes of exploration, appraisal, development and production. Chapters dedicated to each of these aspects are further illustrated by case histories drawn from the authors' experiences. Petroleum Geoscience has a global and 'geo-temporal' backdrop, drawing examples and case histories from around the world and from petroleum systems ranging in age from late-Pre-Cambrian to Pliocene. In order to show how geoscience is integrated at all levels within the industry, the authors stress throughout the links between geology and geophysics on the one hand, and drilling, reservoir engineering, petrophysics, petroleum engineering, facilities design, and health, safety and the environment on the other. Petroleum Geoscience is designed as a practical guide, with the basic theory augmented by case studies from a wide spread of geographical locations. Covers all the key aspects of the origin of petroleum, exploration, and production. It takes account of the modern emphasis on the efficient utilisation of reserves, on new methods in exploration (such as 3-D seismics). Book takes 'value-chain' approach to Petroleum Geoscience. First new text on petroleum geology for geology undergraduates to be published in the last ten years. Packed full of real-life case studies from Petroleum industry.
