It captures his authentic and unsuppressed voice, speaking clearly from the grave and brimming with humor, ideas, and opinions. Download or read book Septuagint History Volume 2 written by Scriptural Research Institute and published by Scriptural Research Institute. This book was released on 2023-03-14 with total page 817 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the mid 3ʳᵈ century BC, King Ptolemy II Philadelphus of Egypt ordered a translation of the ancient Israelite scriptures for the Library of Alexandria. This translation later became known as the Septuagint, based on the description of the translation by seventy translators in the Letter of Aristeas. The History section of the Septuagint contained the books that told the history of the Israelite and Judahites from Joshua's conquest of Canaan circa 1500 BC, until the establishment of the Hasmonean dynasty in Judea, in 140 BC. Septuagint: History, Volume 2, is composed of modern, non-theological translations of the books of Paralipomena, Ezra, Tobit, Judith, Esther, and Maccabees, which spanned roughly 950 BC to the creation of the Hasmonean kingdom of Judea in 140 BC. The books cover several eras of Judahite history, beginning with the fragmentary stories found in Paralipomena, books likely originating in Edom. The stories in Paralipomena cover the same eras as those found in the books of the Kingdoms, however, occasionally contradict the books of the Kingdoms, and are therefore viewed as an auxiliary version of Judahite history by biblical scholars. The two surviving versions of the books of Tobit are set during the Neo-Assyrian era, which also appears to have been the origin of the book of Judith. Both Judith and the Codex Vaticanus’ version of Tobit have been edited into anachronistic nonsense, however, the Sinaiticus version of Tobit still survives, which appears to be consistent with the history of the era, indicating the books likely did originate in the Neo-Assyrian and/or Median empires. Tobit specifically claims the first part of the book was written in Assyria, while the later sections had to have been written in Media, as the author reported moving there. The books of Ezra cover the era from the Persian conquest of Babylon, until 351 BC, less than 20 years before Alexander the Great conquered the Persian Empire. While the historical events in Jerusalem are not clearly understood during the Persian era, the sequence of events described in the books of Ezra do fit into the major events of Persian history well, however, have not generally been understood until the last two centuries, when archaeology in Iran produced a coherent view of Persian history. Historically, understanding the events in the books of Ezra, as well as Esther, which is set during the Persian Empire, was complicated by Rabbinical history, which redacted most of Persian history from the Judean records, as well as the fact that so many Persian kings held the same name. There were 5 kings named Artaxerxes, 3 named Darius, and 2 named Xerxes, and the dating of major events in the books of Ezra, used regal years without specifying which Artaxerxes, Xerxes, or Darius’s reign the year relates too. Three of the book of the Maccabees were added to the Septuagint in the 1ˢᵗ or late 2ⁿᵈ century BC, while a forth was added in the 1ˢᵗ century AD. Many other books of the Maccabees also exist, in Aramaic, Arabic, Ge‘ez, and Yiddish. The books recount events that supposedly lead up to the Maccabean revolt in Judea, between 165 and 140 BC. Other than the first book, they have never been considered historically valid by rabbis or historians, and few Christian scholars have viewed them as a true record of events from the era. The fourth book labelled Maccabees in the Septuagint, is a philosophical reinterpretation of the events found throughout the Septuagint, from a 1ˢᵗ century Jewish perspective.

Book excerpt: The acclaimed author of Ms. Bixby’s Last Day and Posted returns with an unforgettable tale of love and laughter, of fathers and sons, of what family truly means, and of the ways in which we sometimes need to lose something in order to find ourselves. Celebrate dads and Father's Day year-round with this warm and witty novel for tweens. Rion Kwirk comes from a rather odd family. His mother named him and his sisters after her favorite constellations, and his father makes funky-flavored jellybeans for a living. One sister acts as if she’s always on stage, and the other is a walking dictionary. But no one in the family is more odd than Rion’s grandfather, Papa Kwirk. He’s the kind of guy who shows up on his motorcycle only on holidays handing out crossbows and stuffed squirrels as presents. Rion has always been fascinated by Papa Kwirk, especially as his son—Rion’s father—is the complete opposite. Where Dad is predictable, nerdy, and reassuringly boring, Papa Kwirk is mysterious, dangerous, and cool. Which is why, when Rion and his family learn of Papa Kwirk’s death and pile into the car to attend his funeral and pay their respects, Rion can’t help but feel that that’s not the end of his story. That there’s so much more to Papa Kwirk to discover. He doesn’t know how right he is.

Book Book of Orion Liber Aeternus

Download or read book Book of Orion Liber Aeternus written by Luis Marques and published by . This book was released on 2012-07 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Book of Orion is an occult grimoire that presents a profound study on spirituality and ancient symbolism through an initiatory formula that echoes the timeless connection between the psychology of the incarnated mind and the many indefinable layers of divinity. It is an intricate work on the mysteries of Death, Life and Rebirth that develops the premise where the key to the hidden gnosis that holds the secrets of the Universe can be found in the subtlest details in nature. It takes the reader through a realm of lost cultures, encoded mythology and forgotten wisdom, exploring the mental and spiritual tools for the ageless quest of inner growth and understanding by touching the very fabric of immortal consciousness. By presenting a cryptic layer of Asetian philosophy the author educates the student of the occult in how to find, explore and interpret the many roads to personal enlightenment, along with its deceptive traps and illusions, ultimately liberating the spiritual seeker with the power and trust to look within and to conquer his own reality. Organized into three distinctive tomes of scholarly value, this work sheds light on the convoluted wisdom of old Israel known as the Kabbalah and how it connects with earlier Egyptian beliefs. It teaches the seeker about the formation of the Hebrew language so often explored in Western mysticism, the interpretation and use of the multilayered glyph of the Tree of Life, the fragmentation and transmutation of subtle energy explored in advanced metaphysical practice and the fundamental elements at the core of spiritual thought as studied in the mystery schools of past and present. It includes a compilation of different esoteric Libri developed by the author and of particular relevance to any contemporary occult curriculum, elaborating on the nature of initiation and its transformational properties, along with the detailed study of a powerful sigil and its complex layer of symbolism. This book conceals many secrets, and while some have the power to change your perception forever with renewed magickal clarity others hold the keys to hidden dungeons within your unconscious mind manifesting as the shadowed crafters of nightmares. Read it carefully... International author Luis Marques, one of the leading specialists in Asetian spirituality, is a renowned expert in metaphysics and Ancient Egyptian knowledge within the Order of Aset Ka. An authority on ancient symbolism and esoteric mysteries, he unveils through these pages another profound literary work that expresses a serious commitment to occult wisdom, which is here presented with an unseen level of clarity, honesty and eloquence.

Book excerpt: This historic book may have numerous typos and missing text. Purchasers can usually download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1893 edition. Excerpt: ... ORION AND HIS BELT. Agrahdyana = Agrayana in the older works--Probable derivation of hdyana--The Agrayana sacrifices--Their number and naturePerformed every half-year in Vasanta and Sharad--Greek legends of Urion--Their similarity to Vedic legends--German traditions and festivities--Stag and hind--Twelve nights--Dogdays--All of which indicate the commencement of the year in Orion --Dr. Kuhn's explanation is insufficient--The usual adjuncts of Orion--His belt, staff and lion's skin--The aivyaonghana of Haoma in the Avesta--The yajnopavtta of the Brfthmans-- Their sacred character probably borrowed from the belt of Orion or Yajna--Use of mikhald, ajina and danda in the Upanayana ceremony--Probably in imitation of the costume of Orion or Prajftpati, the first of the Br&hmans-- Derivation of Orion from Agrayana--Its probability--Phonetic difficulties--Conclusion. In the last chapter 1 have quoted an observation of Plutarch that the Greeks gave their own name to the constellation of Orion, and have there discussed some Vedic legends which corroborate Plutarch's remarks and indicate that the vernal equinox was in Orion at that time. In the present chapter I mean to examine other legends which go to shew that the constellation of Orion was known and figured before the Greeks, the Parsis, and the Indians separated from their common home, and that the legends or the traditions so preserved, and perhaps the name of the constellation, can be naturally and easily explained only on the supposition that the vernal equinox was then near the asteiism of Mrigashiras. I have already shown that Agrah&yni if riot AgrahAyana, can be traced back to P&nini's time, as the name of a Nakshatra, and that it is a mistake to derive it from the name of the full-moon...

Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • From the author of Uprooted and Spinning Silver comes the first book of the Scholomance trilogy, the story of an unwilling dark sorceress who is destined to rewrite the rules of magic. FINALIST FOR THE LODESTAR AWARD • “The dark school of magic I’ve been waiting for.”—Katherine Arden, author of the Winternight Trilogy I decided that Orion Lake needed to die after the second time he saved my life. Everyone loves Orion Lake. Everyone else, that is. Far as I’m concerned, he can keep his flashy combat magic to himself. I’m not joining his pack of adoring fans. I don’t need help surviving the Scholomance, even if they do. Forget the hordes of monsters and cursed artifacts, I’m probably the most dangerous thing in the place. Just give me a chance and I’ll level mountains and kill untold millions, make myself the dark queen of the world. At least, that’s what the world expects. Most of the other students in here would be delighted if Orion killed me like one more evil thing that’s crawled out of the drains. Sometimes I think they want me to turn into the evil witch they assume I am. The school certainly does. But the Scholomance isn’t getting what it wants from me. And neither is Orion Lake. I may not be anyone’s idea of the shining hero, but I’m going to make it out of this place alive, and I’m not going to slaughter thousands to do it, either. Although I’m giving serious consideration to just one. With flawless mastery, Naomi Novik creates a school bursting with magic like you’ve never seen before, and a heroine for the ages—a character so sharply realized and so richly nuanced that she will live on in hearts and minds for generations to come. The magic of the Scholomance trilogy continues in The Last Graduate “The can’t-miss fantasy of fall 2020, a brutal coming-of-power story steeped in the aesthetics of dark academia. . . . A Deadly Education will cement Naomi Novik’s place as one of the greatest and most versatile fantasy writers of our time.”—BookPage (starred review) “A must-read . . . Novik puts a refreshingly dark, adult spin on the magical boarding school. . . . Readers will delight in the push-and-pull of El and Orion’s relationship, the fantastically detailed world, the clever magic system, and the matter-of-fact diversity of the student body.”—Publishers Weekly (starred review)
