This book was released on 2010 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dental and oral diseases are a common encounter in children and youth. The federal government enacted EqualityCare to direct dental care policies for indigent youth, a policy that covers children/youth in protective custody. This original research analyzed survey data among Wyoming child protection workers who have legal responsibility for children who require regular dental health care. Forty-one workers (40% response) participated in the study. All respondents identified the importance of oral health care. 82.9% of the workers practiced assessment of dental care needs, yet, 46.3% of workers did not assess dental needs until after one month in custody, while 10% of the workers did not assess dental needs until 6 months in custody. Results identified that most respondents did not have adequate oral health care knowledge related to infants, children and youth. Thirty-two workers identified "dentists. unavailability" contributing to delay in care; 26 workers indicated dentists not accepting public funding.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adolescence is a time of major transition, however, health care services in the United States today are not designed to help young people develop healthy routines, behaviors, and relationships that they can carry into their adult lives. While most adolescents at this stage of life are thriving, many of them have difficulty gaining access to necessary services; other engage in risky behaviors that can jeopardize their health during these formative years and also contribute to poor health outcomes in adulthood. Missed opportunities for disease prevention and health promotion are two major problematic features of our nation's health services system for adolescents. Recognizing that health care providers play an important role in fostering healthy behaviors among adolescents, Adolescent Health Services examines the health status of adolescents and reviews the separate and uncoordinated programs and services delivered in multiple public and private health care settings. The book provides guidance to administrators in public and private health care agencies, health care workers, guidance counselors, parents, school administrators, and policy makers on investing in, strengthening, and improving an integrated health system for adolescents.
