This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Divine Inspiration of the Bible If the Bible is the Word of God; if it stands on an in finitely exalted plane, all alone; if it immeasurably tran scends all the greatest productions of human genius; then, we should naturally expect to find that it has unique cre dentials, that there are internal marks which prove it to be the handiwork of God, that there is conclusive evidence to show that its Author is superhuman, Divine. That these expectations are realized we shall now endeavor to show; that there is no reason whatever for any one to doubt the Divine inspiration of the Scriptures is the purpose of this book to demonstrate. As we examine the natural world we find innumerable proofs of the existence of a Personal Creator, and the same God who has manifested Himself thro' His works has also revealed His wisdom and will thro' His Word. The God of creation and the God of written revelation are One, and there are irrefutable arguments to show that the Almighty who made the heavens and the earth. Is also the Author of the Bible. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Bible Inspiration: Plenary and VerbalInspiration, on the other hand, cons1sts in that actu ating, controlling, and guiding influence of the Holy Spirit, under which God's chosen messengers spoke and wrote the original Scriptures. In short, it denotes that extraordinary divine influence, under the direction and control of which all parts of the original Scriptures were recorded, whether they be direct revelations or mere historical facts. So that the entire Bible and every part of it was written by Inspiration, and there fore is true.N ow, Inspiration pertains, not so much to the writers, as to their writings. Accordingly, says Paul: All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profit able, etc. 2 Tim. Iii. 16. The meaning of this passage is the same, whether it be rendered, All Scripture is inspired by God (revised Version), or, All Scripture is given by inspiration of God. In both, the apostle equally attests the fact that all Scripture is divinely inspired. Inspiration, therefore, is to be viewed rather in the Book, than in the men; the Book was inspired for all time, the men merely for the time being. Most of the errors on this subject have arisen from viewing inspiration in the writers, rather than in their writings.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. This book was released on 2015-07-19 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Pauline Theory of the Inspiration of Holy Scripture A subject which related to the operations of the Divine Spirit on the spirit of man, is, no doubt, intrinsically abstruse. Nevertheless, it has for many years appeared to me that there must be some influential cause besides at work, largely contributing to the present unsettled state of opinion on inspiration. What in the pure light of Scripture is clear, may become cloudy when compressed within the artificial enclosure of an arbitrary definition. Thus it really happened that the Pauline idea of inspiration has been lost sight of in the surrounding gloom of human improvement. In fact, the impossibility of adjusting the deductions of reason which proceed on uncertain principles, to the explicit statements of Holy Scripture, accounts for much of the present discontent occasioned by the inconsistencies abounding in many modern treatises on the subject. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Bible Doctrine of Inspiration Explained and Vindicated For more than a quarter Of a century it has been my privilege and duty, in giving theological instruction, to discuss the subject of Inspiration. As each year I have studied it afresh, my sense Of its importance has increased; and in examining the accumulating litera ture on the topic in books, reviews, and newspapers, I have felt moved to get closer to the original sources, and have determined to ask the attention of the public to a study Of it specially from a Biblical standpoint. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Inspiration of Scripture, Vol. 2: Its Limits and Effects That such supernatural communication and direction were really concerned in the origin of Scripture, and form its distinctive characteristics: this is assumed as granted; not, indeed, as being necessarily self-evident, or incapable of dispute, but simply as belonging to another and earlier stage of inquiry than that here intended to be followed out. The object of the present work is not to discuss the fact of inspiration, still less the general Divine authority of Scripture, but (these being supposed to be admitted) to investigate the further and independent question of the practical results arising from such inspiration. In other words, to inquire how far, and in what respects, the Bible, thus written under supernatural direction, difere from what we might reason ably suppose it would have been if written without such supernatural direction. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Inspiration and Authority of Holy Scripture: A Study in the Literature of the First Five Centuries Canons came to be accepted by the Church as part of the one Revelation of God: and the fact that for fifteen centuries no attempt was made to formulate a definition of the doctrine of the inspiration of the Bible, testifies to the universal belief of the Church that the Scriptures were the handiwork of the Holy Ghost. For this freedom from definition we may indeed be thankful, since, it is far more important. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Inspiration of Scripture

Download or read book The Inspiration of Scripture written by Richard W. Hiley and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-04-23 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Inspiration of Scripture: An Examination Into Its Meaning, Origin and Theories Thereon The writer has been at some considerable pains in collecting information on the various views pro pounded, and he has been vain enough to think that the result may be of service to others. Divinity students, candidates for holy orders, and thoughtful readers may not be disposed to wade through every treatise for and against the tenet, but may be dis posed to have a summary of them all. It is with that hope that the following pages are printed. When a subject has been for years in a person's thoughts, he will have digested the results of others to such an extent that he becomes unconscious of their origin. However, a list of works is appended, the contents of which have been freely used and, it is hoped, freely acknowledged. It would be pre sumptuous indeed to lay claim to any great origin ality the writer would therefore say, as Montesquieu says somewhere I have gathered a nosegay of flowers, and mine is the string that ties them.' Should this essay live to see a second edition, some of the chapters may be considerably expanded. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Biblical Inspiration and Christ Classic Reprint

Download or read book Biblical Inspiration and Christ Classic Reprint written by Marvin Richardson Vincent and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-29 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Biblical Inspiration and Christ For it is evident that if we confine ourselves to the words inspiration, fieomeuaria, we still have no standard by which to distinguish the Bible from scores of other books. According to its primary meaning, in Spiration is not confined to the Bible. It exists and works wherever God breathes life and power into men. A work of genius is inspired. A good life is inspired. A deed of heroism is an inspiration. St. John's gos pel is inspired, but so are the Iliad, and Hamlet and the Divina Commedia. And yet it is entirely consist ent with this to say that the peculiar quality of Biblical inspiration is higher than the inspiration of these works. And imparts to the Bible a character which belongs to none of them. What this peculiar element is, is the thing we want to know. Book Nature of the Divine Inspiration of Scripture Classic Reprint

Download or read book Nature of the Divine Inspiration of Scripture Classic Reprint written by James Macgregor and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-09-07 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Nature of the Divine Inspiration of Scripture The distinction between revelation and inspiration, though continually asserted by one class of theologians, is continually ignored, or rejected as unreal and illusory, by another class. Yet the distinction is founded in the nature of things. Re velation is that through which rational beings come into pos session of information; while inspiration is that through which they come to communicate that information - no matter how obtained. Thus, in relation to a scripture or book, the record of a revelation - while the revelation question is, What is the source of the information? The inspiration question is, Who is the author of the book, or scripture, or record? So Shakespeare, the all-round man, after describing the poet's eye, in a fine frenzy rolling, as receiving some revelation when it glances from heaven to earth, from earth to heaven, goes on to describe an ulterior process, in which the poet's pen records what his eye has seen, so as to' give to airy nothings a local habitation and a name. Book The Inspiration of Scripture

Download or read book The Inspiration of Scripture written by James Macgregor and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-31 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Inspiration of Scripture: Its Nature and Extent Of the verb to inspire the literal meaning is, to breathe into and fill with one's breath. The ordinary meaning is, to fill and in form with the Spirit Oi one's mind. Thus a melody is said to be inspired by the musician, because it is not mere sound, but melodious sound, expressing his mind, his idea Of the beautiful. Any true word of man is thus given by inspiration Of the man, because it expresses his thought, or feeling, or desire, or will; because it is filled and informed by his mind or spirit - it is the inspiration Of the man that makes the word to be his. And if the word should be committed to writing, so as to give per manent written expression to his idea, his thought, emotion, aspiration, resolve, it still retains its character, Of being inspired of him, and becomes a scripture given by inspiration Of the man. So when a scripture is said to be theopneust, God-inspired, or given by inspiration of God, the meaning is, that the word is God's, that it is filled and informed by His Spirit, that it expresses Hz}; mind, His thought, or feeling, or desire, or will so that He speaks in the word, what the Scripture says is said by Him. How, it is asked, can the Scriptures, written, as they are, in the language, styles, and idioms of men, be properly declared to be the infallible Word of God? If I have done any thing towards a satisfactory solution of this chief difficulty, I shall not doubt of your agreeing with me in the main positions which I have advanced, as well as in the cardinal doctrine which I endeavor to defend, whether my auxiliary reasonings and illustrations do, or do not, in all respects meet your approbation. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Inspiration of Holy Scripture: Its Nature and Proof; Eight Discourses, Preached Before the University of Dublin I DO not feel that any lengthened defence is necessary for having undertaken an inquiry into the subject with Which the present work is occupied. Independently of the intrinsic importance of every question connected with the elucidation of Holy Scripture - the vagueness which too often characterizes the language employed by writers who, in modern times, have treated of its Inspiration seems to render a fundamental examination into the nature of this Divine influence daily more desirable.
