Research Program on Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2010-10-01 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents the state of the art in several directions of research conducted by renowned mathematicians who participated in the research program on Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations at the Centre for Advanced Study at the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters, Oslo, Norway, during the academic year 2008-09. The main theme of the volume is nonlinear partial differential equations that model a wide variety of wave phenomena. Topics discussed include systems of conservation laws, compressible Navier-Stokes equations, Navier-Stokes-Korteweg type systems in models for phase transitions, nonlinear evolution equations, degenerate/mixed type equations in fluid mechanics and differential geometry, nonlinear dispersive wave equations (Korteweg-de Vries, Camassa-Holm type, etc.), and Poisson interface problems and level set formulations.

Book Splitting Methods for Partial Differential Equations with Rough Solutions

Download or read book Splitting Methods for Partial Differential Equations with Rough Solutions written by Helge Holden and published by European Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2010 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Operator splitting (or the fractional steps method) is a very common tool to analyze nonlinear partial differential equations both numerically and analytically. By applying operator splitting to a complicated model one can often split it into simpler problems that can be analyzed separately. In this book one studies operator splitting for a family of nonlinear evolution equations, including hyperbolic conservation laws and degenerate convection-diffusion equations. Common for these equations is the prevalence of rough, or non-smooth, solutions, e.g., shocks. Rigorous analysis is presented, showing that both semi-discrete and fully discrete splitting methods converge. For conservation laws, sharp error estimates are provided and for convection-diffusion equations one discusses a priori and a posteriori correction of entropy errors introduced by the splitting. Numerical methods include finite difference and finite volume methods as well as front tracking. The theory is illustrated by numerous examples. There is a dedicated Web page that provides MATLABR codes for many of the examples. The book is suitable for graduate students and researchers in pure and applied mathematics, physics, and engineering.

Book Parallel Solution of Partial Differential Equations

Download or read book Parallel Solution of Partial Differential Equations written by Petter Bjorstad and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This IMA Volume in Mathematics and its Applications PARALLEL SOLUTION OF PARTIAL DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS is based on the proceedings of a workshop with the same title. The work shop was an integral part of the 1996-97IMA program on "MATHEMAT ICS IN HIGH-PERFORMANCE COMPUTING." I would like to thank Petter Bj0rstad of the Institutt for Informatikk, University of Bergen and Mitchell Luskin of the School of Mathematics, University of Minnesota for their excellent work as organizers of the meeting and for editing the proceedings. I also take this opportunity to thank the National Science Founda tion (NSF), Department of Energy (DOE), and the Army Research Office (ARO), whose financial support made the workshop possible. Willard Miller, Jr., Professor and Director v PREFACE The numerical solution of partial differential equations has been of major importance to the development of many technologies and has been the target of much of the development of parallel computer hardware and software. Parallel computers offer the promise of greatly increased perfor mance and the routine calculation of previously intractable problems. The papers in this volume were presented at the IMA workshop on the Paral lel Solution of PDE held during June 9-13, 1997. The workshop brought together leading numerical analysts, computer scientists, and engineers to assess the state-of-the-art and to consider future directions.

Book Hyperbolic Differential Operators And Related Problems

Download or read book Hyperbolic Differential Operators And Related Problems written by Vincenzo Ancona and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2003-03-06 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presenting research from more than 30 international authorities, this reference provides a complete arsenal of tools and theorems to analyze systems of hyperbolic partial differential equations. The authors investigate a wide variety of problems in areas such as thermodynamics, electromagnetics, fluid dynamics, differential geometry, and topology. Renewing thought in the field of mathematical physics, Hyperbolic Differential Operators defines the notion of pseudosymmetry for matrix symbols of order zero as well as the notion of time function. Surpassing previously published material on the topic, this text is key for researchers and mathematicians specializing in hyperbolic, Schrödinger, Einstein, and partial differential equations; complex analysis; and mathematical physics.

Book Anomalies in Partial Differential Equations

Download or read book Anomalies in Partial Differential Equations written by Massimo Cicognani and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-02-03 with total page 469 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The contributions contained in the volume, written by leading experts in their respective fields, are expanded versions of talks given at the INDAM Workshop "Anomalies in Partial Differential Equations" held in September 2019 at the Istituto Nazionale di Alta Matematica, Dipartimento di Matematica "Guido Castelnuovo", Università di Roma "La Sapienza". The volume contains results for well-posedness and local solvability for linear models with low regular coefficients. Moreover, nonlinear dispersive models (damped waves, p-evolution models) are discussed from the point of view of critical exponents, blow-up phenomena or decay estimates for Sobolev solutions. Some contributions are devoted to models from applications as traffic flows, Einstein-Euler systems or stochastic PDEs as well. Finally, several contributions from Harmonic and Time-Frequency Analysis, in which the authors are interested in the action of localizing operators or the description of wave front sets, complete the volume.
