Book Essays on Online Advertising Issues

Download or read book Essays on Online Advertising Issues written by Min Chen and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The third essay analyzes click fraud in a setting wherein a neutral third party investigates the disagreements between the SP and the advertiser. I consider two investigation payment schemes, the SP-pay scheme (SS) and the advertiser-pay scheme (AS) and find the following results: first, the two parties can never be both better off in SS. Second, the advertiser may also benefit from the SP's choice of AS if the investigation cost is moderate and the SP's incentive problem is more severe in the AS. Third, when the advertiser's incentive problem is more severe in both schemes, although the sum of the SP's and advertiser's profits are higher in AS, the SP always prefers SS because he can increase his profits by "hurting" the advertiser more in the SS.

Download or read book Cybercrime and Digital Forensics written by Thomas J. Holt and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-02-11 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The emergence of the World Wide Web, smartphones, and Computer-Mediated Communications (CMCs) profoundly affect the way in which people interact online and offline. Individuals who engage in socially unacceptable or outright criminal acts increasingly utilize technology to connect with one another in ways that are not otherwise possible in the real world due to shame, social stigma, or risk of detection. As a consequence, there are now myriad opportunities for wrongdoing and abuse through technology. This book offers a comprehensive and integrative introduction to cybercrime. It is the first to connect the disparate literature on the various types of cybercrime, the investigation and detection of cybercrime and the role of digital information, and the wider role of technology as a facilitator for social relationships between deviants and criminals. It includes coverage of: key theoretical and methodological perspectives, computer hacking and digital piracy, economic crime and online fraud, pornography and online sex crime, cyber-bulling and cyber-stalking, cyber-terrorism and extremism, digital forensic investigation and its legal context, cybercrime policy. This book includes lively and engaging features, such as discussion questions, boxed examples of unique events and key figures in offending, quotes from interviews with active offenders and a full glossary of terms. It is supplemented by a companion website that includes further students exercises and instructor resources. This text is essential reading for courses on cybercrime, cyber-deviancy, digital forensics, cybercrime investigation and the sociology of technology.

Book Handbook of Electronic Security and Digital Forensics

Download or read book Handbook of Electronic Security and Digital Forensics written by Hamid Jahankhani and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2010 with total page 708 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The widespread use of information and communications technology (ICT) has created a global platform for the exchange of ideas, goods and services, the benefits of which are enormous. However, it has also created boundless opportunities for fraud and deception. Cybercrime is one of the biggest growth industries around the globe, whether it is in the form of violation of company policies, fraud, hate crime, extremism, or terrorism. It is therefore paramount that the security industry raises its game to combat these threats. Today's top priority is to use computer technology to fight computer crime, as our commonwealth is protected by firewalls rather than firepower. This is an issue of global importance as new technologies have provided a world of opportunity for criminals. This book is a compilation of the collaboration between the researchers and practitioners in the security field; and provides a comprehensive literature on current and future e-security needs across applications, implementation, testing or investigative techniques, judicial processes and criminal intelligence. The intended audience includes members in academia, the public and private sectors, students and those who are interested in and will benefit from this handbook.

Download or read book Benford s Law written by Alex Ely Kossovsky and published by World Scientific Publishing Company Incorporated. This book was released on 2015 with total page 649 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book tells the story of a newly discovered and apparently mysterious digital phenomenon of Benford's Law. This phenomenon manifests itself by the empirical finding that not all digits are created equal, but rather that low digits such as 1, 2, 3 occur much more frequently than high digits such as 7, 8, 9, in accounting, financial, scientific, and almost all other data types. This work represents the first ever published work giving a comprehensive and in depth account of all the theoretical aspects and applications of Benford's Law. The reader is subsequently led into a fascinating intellectual journey through the interacting worlds of digits, numbers, and quantities, a journey that ends with the compelling conclusion that the entire phenomenon is truly quantitative in nature, and applicable just as well to the ancient Roman, Mayan, and Egyptian digit-less civilizations. The second section covers the applications of the law in forensic data analysis for the purpose of fraud detection. It is concise, reader-friendly, and can be understood without deep knowledge in statistical theory or difficult mathematics. This fraud detection section gathers all known methods, results, and standards in the accounting and auditing industry, from quite a wide variety of articles on this issue, summarizes and fuses them into a singular coherent whole. In addition, a newly invented (patent-pending) digital algorithm is presented, enabling the auditor to detect such fraud even when the sophisticated and well-educated cheater is aware of the law and attempts to appear as if he or she is innocently complying with the digital pattern. A large portion of the book is devoted to understanding the variety of causes explanations of the phenomenon. Seeing Benford's Law in this bird's eye view enables the reader to see the forest in all its glory and beauty instead of tiring one's self repeatedly checking individual trees.

This book was released on 2015-08-17 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Detect fraud earlier to mitigate loss and prevent cascading damage Fraud Analytics Using Descriptive, Predictive, and Social Network Techniques is an authoritative guidebook for setting up a comprehensive fraud detection analytics solution. Early detection is a key factor in mitigating fraud damage, but it involves more specialized techniques than detecting fraud at the more advanced stages. This invaluable guide details both the theory and technical aspects of these techniques, and provides expert insight into streamlining implementation. Coverage includes data gathering, preprocessing, model building, and post-implementation, with comprehensive guidance on various learning techniques and the data types utilized by each. These techniques are effective for fraud detection across industry boundaries, including applications in insurance fraud, credit card fraud, anti-money laundering, healthcare fraud, telecommunications fraud, click fraud, tax evasion, and more, giving you a highly practical framework for fraud prevention. It is estimated that a typical organization loses about 5% of its revenue to fraud every year. More effective fraud detection is possible, and this book describes the various analytical techniques your organization must implement to put a stop to the revenue leak. Examine fraud patterns in historical data Utilize labeled, unlabeled, and networked data Detect fraud before the damage cascades Reduce losses, increase recovery, and tighten security The longer fraud is allowed to go on, the more harm it causes. It expands exponentially, sending ripples of damage throughout the organization, and becomes more and more complex to track, stop, and reverse. Fraud prevention relies on early and effective fraud detection, enabled by the techniques discussed here. Fraud Analytics Using Descriptive, Predictive, and Social Network Techniques helps you stop fraud in its tracks, and eliminate the opportunities for future occurrence.
