Book The Finite Element Analysis of Shells Fundamentals

Download or read book The Finite Element Analysis of Shells Fundamentals written by Dominique Chapelle and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors present a modern continuum mechanics and mathematical framework to study shell physical behaviors, and to formulate and evaluate finite element procedures. With a view towards the synergy that results from physical and mathematical understanding, the book focuses on the fundamentals of shell theories, their mathematical bases and finite element discretizations. The complexity of the physical behaviors of shells is analysed, and the difficulties to obtain uniformly optimal finite element procedures are identified and studied. Some modern finite element methods are presented for linear and nonlinear analyses. A state of the art monograph by leading experts.

Book Finite Element Analysis of Shell Structures

Download or read book Finite Element Analysis of Shell Structures written by Fathelrahman Mohamed Adam and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The finite element analysis of general shell structures is faced with the problems of shear and membrane locking. These problems are well known and much research has been focused on the development of powerful shell elements to eliminate these problems. This book employs three shell elements these are four nodes degenerated shell element, four nodes flat shell element and nine nodes degenerated shell element. Each one of these elements has six degrees of freedom per node. Additional elements have been developed to avoid problems; these are: four nodes element, employing the Mixed Interpolation of Tensorial Components approach, Non Conforming Element and nine nodes element with Selective Reduced Integration and Weighted Modified Integration. A new solution is proposed to correct the convergence curve to be asymptotic to the exact solution curve by using extrapolation. A geometric nonlinear formulation based on the total Lagrangian formulation using both engineering strains and Green's strains was adopted. The formulations were implemented into a nonlinear finite element program and some subroutines are included. Good results are obtained when applying in different numerical examples

Book Finite Element Procedures Applicable to Nonlinear Analysis of Reinforced Concrete Shell Structures

Download or read book Finite Element Procedures Applicable to Nonlinear Analysis of Reinforced Concrete Shell Structures written by G. M. Stanley and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this report was to adapt earlier work in nonlinear shell-element methodology to the specific kinds of problems encountered in the analysis of critically-loaded reinforced concrete shell structures. The Continuum-Based nonlinear shell-element formulation for this shells was extended to thicker, layer-model types of shell structures. A resultant-type form of the basic equations was developed that is both appropriate for the treatment of thick, layered shells and leads to an efficient finite-element implementation as well. By eliminating most of the work associated with thickness integration, this approach should be effective when numerous layers and/or thickness integration points are required, as in the case of inelastically responding reinforced concrete. Pointwise constitutive relations for accurate through-thickness stress calculations are still employed though these are ultimately presented in the element computational routines in the form of resultants.

Book Large Deformation Finite Element Analysis of Shells

Download or read book Large Deformation Finite Element Analysis of Shells written by Fathelrahman Mohamed Adam and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The analysis of shells structure represents one of the most challenging fields in many applications. This work presents the linear and nonlinear analysis of thin shell structures based on finite element eight nodes degenerated shell element which have five degrees of freedom per each node. A geometric nonlinear formulation based on the total Lagrangian formulation and using both geometric strains (Engineering Strains) and Green's strains was adopted in this work and the formulations were implemented into a nonlinear finite element program NONLAS. The solution of nonlinear equations is obtained by combining a step-by-step incremental/iterative procedure and the Modified Newton-Raphson method. The capability of the formulation is demonstrated by numerical examples and the results are compared with available solutions.
