Born in Chicago, as a young boy he moved to a farm in Kansas with his mother and remained there until his death. He compiled and arranged Old Settlers' Tales (1902), a collection of historical and biographical sketches of the early settlement and settlers of Northeastern Pottawatomie and Southwestern Nemaha Counties, Kansas, from the earliest settlement to the year 1877. This book is a reprint of the original manuscript and contains the typed 'copies' of the pages of the book F. F. Crevecoeur wrote in its entirety.
