Book excerpt: NEW PRINT WITH PROFESSIONAL TYPE-SET IN CONTRAST TO SCANNED PRINTS OFFERED BY OTHERS Chronicles Of An Old Inn: Or, A Few Words About Gray's Inn This book is a result of an effort made by us towards making a contribution to the preservation and repair of original classic literature. In an attempt to preserve, improve and recreate the original content, we have worked towards: 1. Type-setting & Reformatting: The complete work has been re-designed via professional layout, formatting and type-setting tools to re-create the same edition with rich typography, graphics, high quality images, and table elements, giving our readers the feel of holding a 'fresh and newly' reprinted and/or revised edition, as opposed to other scanned & printed (Optical Character Recognition - OCR) reproductions. 2. Correction of imperfections: As the work was re-created from the scratch, therefore, it was vetted to rectify certain conventional norms with regard to typographical mistakes, hyphenations, punctuations, blurred images, missing content/pages, and/or other related subject matters, upon our consideration. Every attempt was made to rectify the imperfections related to omitted constructs in the original edition via other references. However, a few of such imperfections which could not be rectified due to intentional\unintentional omission of content in the original edition, were inherited and preserved from the original work to maintain the authenticity and construct, relevant to the work. We believe that this work holds historical, cultural and/or intellectual importance in the literary works community, therefore despite the oddities, we accounted the work for print as a part of our continuing effort towards preservation of literary work and our contribution towards the development of the society as a whole, driven by our beliefs. We are grateful to our readers for putting their faith in us and accepting our imperfections with regard to preservation of the historical content. HAPPY READING!

Download or read book The Old Sun Inn at Bethlehem Pa 1758 written by William Cornelius Reichel and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-04 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Old Sun Inn, at Bethlehem, Pa, 1758: Now the Sun Hotel Almost forgotten, and by most unheeded, (in as far as its stone walls have been cunningly assimilated with the brick and mortar of the modern structure with which it is incorporated) - there still stands as part and parcel of the Sun Hotel in the borough of Bethlehem, - the first house of entertainment that was built by the Moravians within the limits of their earliest settlement in the Province of Pennsylvania. What of history the Sun Inn has made, or what of history made by others it rightly claims, it is the design of these pages to briefly rehearse. When the Moravians commenced the building of Bethlehem in the spring of 1741, and for several years subsequent, such was their remoteness from the routes of travel in south-eastern Pennsylvania, as to render the erection of an Inn altogether unnecessary. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Old Inns of Old England, Vol. 2: A Picturesque Account of the Ancient and Storied Hostelries of Our Own Country I shall not attempt the unthankful office of determining which is the finest among these grand old English inns whose title to notice rests upon no adventitious aid of history, but upon their antique beauty, combined with modern com fort, alone, but will take them as they occur to me. Let us, then, imagine ourselves at Broadway, in Worcestershire, and at the Lygon Arms there. The village, still somewhat remote from railways, was once an important place on the London and W'orcester Road, and its long, three quarter-mile street is really as broad as its name implies; but since the disappearance of the coaches it has ceased to be the busy stage it once was, and has became, in the familiar ironic way of fortune, a haven of rest and quiet for those who are weary of the busy world; a home of artists amid the apple-orchards of the Vale of Evesham a slumberous place of old gabled houses, with mullioned and transomed Windows and Old-time vanities of architectural enrichment; for this is a district of fine building-stone, and the Old crafts men were not slow to take advantage of their material, in the artistic sort. Presently she turned her head towards the steamer and eagerly scanned every part of it on which she could see human beings. In doing this she exhibited to Lod loe a very attractive face. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Alice a the Inn, Vol. 3: A Tale of the Old Coaching Days As we neared Pie Court, I heard Emily's piano; so she at least had not gone to bed. She had moved the instrument from the Vicarage - for of course Mrs. Loftus, nee Nursey, did not require it. When I knocked, Emily herself came to the door, and our veiled figures, in the dark night, and the fantastic glimmer of the lantern, were, as may be imagined, exactly to her fancy. We had been a little afraid of Hector, but she told us he was left at night to take care of the Vicarage. The kitchen fire was not out, and we made it up for the chambermaid to sit by, and ourselves drew round the parlour chimney.
