Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Of the Five Wounds of the Holy Church The author of the subjoined treatise, Antonio Rosmini-Serbati, was born at Rovereto in the Italian Tyrol, on Lady Day, 1797. His father and mother were both people of good family, and considerable fortune. Antonio was the second of their four children: his elder sister became a nun, and his youngest brother died in infancy. His parents were educated and devout members of the Church; and the atmosphere of his home must have fostered the intellectual and devotional tendencies which made him what he became in later years. The boy studied first at the gymnasium of Rovereto, and then for two years at home, under a tutor, P. Orsi, whose instructions in philosophy had a considerable although apparently an indirect and unintended influence on his later life. When eighteen or nineteen years of age, he determined to take Holy Orders. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Five Wounds of Jesus

Download or read book The Five Wounds of Jesus written by David Williams and published by Gracewing Publishing. This book was released on 2004 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Devotion to the Five Wounds of Jesus has long been one of the most popular forms of Catholic spirituality. David Williams traces the roots of this devotion in Holy Scripture: the words of the prophets foretell the suffering Christ, while the New Testament witnesses to the victorious scars borne by the risen Lord. The Sacred Wounds of Jesus remained a persistent theme in the writings of the Desert Fathers and Doctors of the Church, a theme that was to be more fully developed in the devotional practice of the mediaeval period and on into modern times. Detailing the several forms devotion to the Five Wounds has taken (both mediaeval and modern) - in art, liturgy and poetry - David Williams recalls those holy people favoured by visons of the suffering Lord, as well as those who themselves came to bear the stigmata of Christ. He outlines the history of devotion to the specific wound in the Side - later seen as the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and describes the 'gift of tears' given to some from their reflection upon the Passion of their Master. David Williams is the author of The Cistercians on the Early Middle Ages and The Welsh Cistercians, both published by Gracewing.

This book was released on 2016-08-06 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is undoubtedly the most famous of Rosmini's books, in which he notes defects and abuses in the Church, but in a twofold spirit of suffering and hope. Saddened by the inevitable shortcomings of churchmen, he believed and trusted with complete certainty in the infinite power of the Holy Spirit at work in the Church. It caused him immense personal damage, but he felt that the renewal of the Church was of such great urgency that he had to be prepared to suffer for it. Rosmini borrowed the image of the "crucified Church" from Pope Innocent IV (1243-1254).

Download or read book The Five Wounds of Saint Francis written by Rev. Fr. Solanus M. Benfatti and published by TAN Books. This book was released on 2011 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many saints have borne the stigmata - wounds resembling those of Christ's crucifixion. While some of those saints have written about their experience, little is known of the personal experience of the first of all saints to brandish this extraordinary sign, Francis of Assisi. They were and have remained his carefully guarded secret. In The Five Wounds of Saint Francis, author Fr. Solanus Benfatti, CFR, explores the significance of this miraculous event in the Saint's life through careful analysis of pertinent medieval literature and recent scholarly studies. He establishes the historicity of the event, which has been called into question, and draws surprising and inspiring conclusions, leaving the reader with a afresh understanding of Saint Francis's spiritual experience.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Eucharistica or a Series of Pieces, Original and Translated, of the Most Holy and Adorable Sacrament of the Eucharist Thousand different forms, in order to elude the 4clear and forcible proofs which it contains of the doctrine of the Catholic church. They will believe, without a murmur, that the Lord of all glory was confined in the womb of one of his creatures for the space of nine months that he led a most bitter and painful life that he was buffeted, ' spit upon, and scourged; that his body was broken and his blood shed upon the cross and that he expired in the midst of the most cruel torments, for the love which he bore to his creatures. But, strange and ungrateful inconsistency! They refuse to believe that the God who died for them, would, could, or did bequeath to his glorious church his body and blood, as a memorial of that death, as a con tinued and endearing pledge of his love, and an earnest of future glory. How singular must the reasoning which follows appear in the mouth of a Christian I believe that there are three distinct persons in one God that Jesus Christ is'the Son of God, and consubstantial with his Father. I believe that he existed before all ages, that he had no beginning, and will have no end; that nevertheless, he was born in time, and made man like me, that he was cruelly put to death by his own creatures for my redemp. Book The Constitution Under Social Justice

Download or read book The Constitution Under Social Justice written by Antonio Rosmini and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2007 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Antonio Rosmini-Serbati (1797D1855) was one of the first natural law scholars to bring natural law thinking into a conversation with the market economic order that was beginning to emerge in Europe in the 19th century. His reflections on matters such as the origin, nature, and limits of private property, the role of the state, and the nature of human reason show him to be a unique, innovative thinker who nonetheless was determined to work within the parameters of Catholic doctrine. Many of these ideas are concretized in his seminal work The Constitution Under Social Justice, a text that has profound instights to offer those today seeking to integrate theology, philosophy, and economics into their conceptions of a social order that aspires to be both free and just.
