Download or read book Transport Phenomena in Porous Media written by Derek B Ingham and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1998-09-07 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research into thermal convection in porous media has substantially increased during recent years due to its numerous practical applications. These problems have attracted the attention of industrialists, engineers and scientists from many very diversified disciplines, such as applied mathematics, chemical, civil, environmental, mechanical and nuclear engineering, geothermal physics and food science. Thus, there is a wealth of information now available on convective processes in porous media and it is therefore appropriate and timely to undertake a new critical evaluation of this contemporary information. Transport Phenomena in Porous Media contains 17 chapters and represents the collective work of 27 of the world's leading experts, from 12 countries, in heat transfer in porous media. The recent intensive research in this area has substantially raised the expectations for numerous new practical applications and this makes the book a most timely addition to the existing literature. It includes recent major developments in both the fundamentals and applications, and provides valuable information to researchers dealing with practical problems in thermal convection in porous media. Each chapter of the book describes recent developments in the highly advanced analytical, numerical and experimental techniques which are currently being employed and discussions of possible future developments are provided. Such reviews not only result in the consolidation of the currently available information, but also facilitate the identification of new industrial applications and research topics which merit further work.

Download or read book Modeling and Analysis of Modern Fluid Problems written by Liancun Zheng and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2017-04-26 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modeling and Analysis of Modern Fluids helps researchers solve physical problems observed in fluid dynamics and related fields, such as heat and mass transfer, boundary layer phenomena, and numerical heat transfer. These problems are characterized by nonlinearity and large system dimensionality, and 'exact' solutions are impossible to provide using the conventional mixture of theoretical and analytical analysis with purely numerical methods. To solve these complex problems, this work provides a toolkit of established and novel methods drawn from the literature across nonlinear approximation theory. It covers Padé approximation theory, embedded-parameters perturbation, Adomian decomposition, homotopy analysis, modified differential transformation, fractal theory, fractional calculus, fractional differential equations, as well as classical numerical techniques for solving nonlinear partial differential equations. In addition, 3D modeling and analysis are also covered in-depth. - Systematically describes powerful approximation methods to solve nonlinear equations in fluid problems - Includes novel developments in fractional order differential equations with fractal theory applied to fluids - Features new methods, including Homotypy Approximation, embedded-parameter perturbation, and 3D models and analysis

Download or read book Convective Heat and Mass Transfer in Porous Media written by Sadik Kakaç and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 1083 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rapid growth of literature on convective heat and mass transfer through porous media has brought both engineering and fundamental knowledge to a new state of completeness and depth. Additionally, several new questions of fundamental merit have arisen in several areas which bear direct relation to further advancement of basic knowledge and applications in this field. For example, the growth of fundamental heat transfer data and correlations for engineering use for saturated media has now reached the point where the relations for heat transfer coefficients and flow parameters are known well enough for design purposes. Multiple flow field regimes in natural convection have been identified in several important enclosure geometries. New questions have arisen on the nature of equations being used in theoretical studies, i. e. , the Validity of Darcy assumption is being brought into question; Wall effects in high and low velocity flow fields have been found to play a role in predicting transport coefficients; The formulation of transport problems in fractured media are being investigated as both an extension of those in a homogeneous medium and for application in engineering systems in geologic media and problems on saturated media are being addressed to determine their proper formulation and solution. The long standing problem of how to adequately formulate and solve problems of multi-phase heat and mass transfer in heterogeneous media is important in the technologies of chemical reactor engineering and enhanced oil recovery.

Book excerpt: This special volume of the journal Defect and Diffusion Forum is entitled: Advances in Mass and Thermal Transport in Engineering Materials IV. It continues the general theme of how mass and heat diffusion in solids and liquids occur and how these phenomena can be controlled. We start from mass and heat migration at the microscale and carry it through to the macroscale.
