Book excerpt: Nuclear molecules are analogous to ordinary electronic molecules. Valence nucleons are circling nuclear cores and thus bind them. They appear in collisions of nuclei on nuclei, and in fission and fusion processes. Here a lively field of research has developed over the past 20 years. Nuclear Molecules are the strongest deformed nuclear complexes and play an important role in nuclear structure (cluster) physics. They are also of considerable interest for the synthesis of elements in astrophysics (cosmology). Most of the various nuclear molecular phenomena are discussed. This book is the first monograph exclusively written to cover the theoretical aspects of nuclear molecular phenomena in heavy ion collisions. The experimental evidence is presented and confronted with theory.

Book Tunnelling in Molecules

    Book Details:
  • Author : Johannes Kästner
  • Publisher : Royal Society of Chemistry
  • Release : 2020-09-22
  • ISBN : 1839160381
  • Pages : 453 pages

Download or read book Tunnelling in Molecules written by Johannes Kästner and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2020-09-22 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quantum tunnelling is one of the strangest phenomena in chemistry, where we see the wave nature of atoms acting in “impossible” ways. By letting molecules pass through the kinetic barrier instead of over it, this effect can lead to chemical reactions even close to the absolute zero, to atypical spectroscopic observations, to bizarre selectivity, or to colossal isotopic effects. Quantum mechanical tunnelling observations might be infrequent in chemistry, but it permeates through all its disciplines producing remarkable chemical outcomes. For that reason, the 21st century has seen a great increase in theoretical and experimental findings involving molecular tunnelling effects, as well as in novel techniques that permit their accurate predictions and analysis. Including experimental, computational and theoretical chapters, from the physical and organic to the biochemistry fields, from the applied to the academic arenas, this new book provides a broad and conceptual perspective on tunnelling reactions and how to study them. Quantum Tunnelling in Molecules is the obligatory stop for both the specialist and those new to this world.

Book Scattering Theory of Molecules Atoms and Nuclei

Download or read book Scattering Theory of Molecules Atoms and Nuclei written by Luiz Felipe Canto and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2013 with total page 646 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of the book is to give a coherent and comprehensive account of quantum scattering theory with applications to atomic, molecular and nuclear systems. The motivation for this is to supply the necessary theoretical tools to calculate scattering observables of these many-body systems. Concepts which are seemingly different for atomic/molecular scattering from those of nuclear systems, are shown to be the same once physical units such as energy and length are diligently clarified. Many-body resonances excited in nuclear systems are the same as those in atomic systems and come under the name of Feshbach resonances. We also lean heavily on semi-classical methods to explain the physics of quantum scattering OCo especially the interference seen in the angle dependence of the cross section. Having in mind a wide readership, the book includes sections on scattering in two dimensions which is of use in surface physics. Several problems are also included at the end of each of the chapters.

  • Pages : 520 pages

Download or read book Nuclear Moments written by H. Kopferman and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nuclear Moments focuses on the processes, methodologies, reactions, and transformations of molecules and atoms, including magnetic resonance and nuclear moments. The book first offers information on nuclear moments in free atoms and molecules, including theoretical foundations of hyperfine structure, isotope shift, spectra of diatomic molecules, and vector model of molecules. The manuscript then takes a look at nuclear moments in liquids and crystals. Discussions focus on nuclear paramagnetic and magnetic resonance and nuclear quadrupole resonance. The text discusses nuclear moments and nuclear models, as well as simple conclusions from experimental data and graphical representations of nuclear models and moments. An explanation of symbols used in the manuscript is also presented. The book is a dependable reference for readers interested in the study of nuclear moments.

Book Atoms III Molecules I Atome III Molek le I

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 445 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: dissociation, E, of a dimer into two monomers and that, E', of a trimer into a dimer and a monomer. The observed velocity distribution for a beam of sodium iodide is shown in Fig. 23. The monomer and dimer distributions, which are each of the form of Eq. (9. 2), are separately shown. The sum of the two assumed distributions is seen to agree with the experimental data. The data for lithium bromide are shown in Fig. 24. The separate distributions for the monomer, dimer, and trimer required to fit the data are shown as is the sum of these distributions. An attempt to describe the observed distribution in terms of a monomer and a dimer only is shown by the dotted line, where the relative amounts of these species have been adjusted to give a fit on the low velocity side of the spectrum. Table 2. Summary oj data on the degree of association oj diatomic molecules. The data on the fluorides are from unpublished results of M. EISENSTADT, G. ROTHBERG and P. KUSCH. Book Clusters in Nuclei Volume 3

Download or read book Clusters in Nuclei Volume 3 written by Christian Beck and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-08-16 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following the pioneering discovery of alpha clustering and of molecular resonances, the field of nuclear clustering is today one of those domains of heavy-ion nuclear physics that faces the greatest challenges, yet also contains the greatest opportunities. After many summer schools and workshops, in particular over the last decade, the community of nuclear molecular physicists has decided to collaborate in producing a comprehensive collection of lectures and tutorial reviews covering the field. This third volume follows the successful Lect. Notes Phys. 818 (Vol. 1) and 848 (Vol. 2), and comprises six extensive lectures covering the following topics: - Gamma Rays and Molecular Structure - Faddeev Equation Approach for Three Cluster Nuclear Reactions - Tomography of the Cluster Structure of Light Nuclei Via Relativistic Dissociation - Clustering Effects Within the Dinuclear Model : From Light to Hyper-heavy Molecules in Dynamical Mean-field Approach - Clusterization in Ternary Fission - Clusters in Light Neutron-rich Isotopes By promoting new ideas and developments while retaining a pedagogical style of presentation throughout, these lectures will serve as both a reference and an advanced teaching manual for future courses and schools in the fields of nuclear physics and nuclear astrophysics.
