Book Well Architectured Fluoropolymers Synthesis Properties and Applications

Download or read book Well Architectured Fluoropolymers Synthesis Properties and Applications written by Bruno Ameduri and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2004-07-07 with total page 499 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Because of the increasing need for ever better performing materials endowed with specific properties, macromolecular engineering has become a useful tool for designing well-architectured polymers (telomers, telechelics, stars, dendrimers, alternating, block- and graftcopolymers). These polymers are nowadays seeing an enormous growth. Among them, fluoropolymers are seen as high value added materials in many applications ranging from surfactants, optical fibers, biomaterials, coatings, to membranes for fuel cells. Indeed, the relationship between structure of the monomer to the properties of the polymers is of increasing interest so that these properties are tuned for the most appropriate applications. As most fluoropolymers are prepared from radical synthesis, this book devotes various parts on the use of the controlled radical (or pseudo-living) polymerisation of fluoromonomers leading to discoveries of thermoplastic elastomers or original surfactants for polymerisation in supercritical CO2. Well-Architectured Fluoropolymers: Synthesis, Properties and Applications is composed of five chapters starting with a general introduction outlining basic concepts. Emphasis is placed on recent developments, and each chapter describes comprehensive techniques of synthesis of well-defined fluorotelomers or polymers, their properties, characterisations, and their applications, for immediate use by today’s engineers, industrial and academic scientists, and researchers. The book has been arranged to enable self-managed reading and learning. It is both a source of data and a reference. On the synthesis, properties and applications of fluoropolymers: remarkable, high value added materials applied in surfactants, optical fibres, biomaterials, coatings and membranes for fuel cells For immediate use by today's engineers, industrial and academic scientists, and researchers Written to enable self-managed reading and learning, being both a source of data and a reference

Book Novel Synthetic Strategies and Fluorinated Building Blocks for Functional Fluoropolymers

Download or read book Novel Synthetic Strategies and Fluorinated Building Blocks for Functional Fluoropolymers written by Jingbo Wu and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fluoropolymers having many excellent properties are widely used in a variety of areas. However, the preparation of functional fluoropolymers is still a major challenge, which limits the application of fluoropolymers. In this dissertation, we developed several new synthetic strategies and utilized octafluorocyclopentene (OFCP) as a key building block to prepare novel fluorinated functional polymers. This dissertation can be divided into three parts based on the research projects. The first part focuses on describing novel synthetic strategies to prepare functional fluoropolymers. Chapter 1 describes some background of fluorine element, fluoro-olefines, and fluoride ions as a base or catalyst widely used in organic chemistry and polymer chemistry, and a general review of a series of fluorinated polymers. Chapter 2 shows the development of a facile method to prepare functional perfluorocyclobutyl (PFCB) aryl ether polymers via Suzuki coupling polymerization of PFCP aryl ether monomers with appropriate functional monomers, which demonstrated by the preparation of electro-optic functionalized PFCB aryl ether polymers. Chapter 3 shows the application of recently reinvestigated ketene chemistry in fluoropolymers demonstrated by the preparation of Meldrum's acid-functionalized PFCB aryl ether polymers. Chapter 4 describes the development of a facile and universal method to yield functional fluoropolymers via a multi-step post-polymerization modification. Methyl 3, 5-dihydrobenzonate was chosen as a monomer to prepare ester-functionalized partially fluorinated arylene vinylene ether (FAVE) polymer, from which some reactive or functional FAVE polymers were prepared. The second portion of this dissertation focuses on the development of new fluorinated polymeric materials using octafluorocyclopentene (OFCP) as a key building block. Chapter 5 and 6 show the synthesis, characterization, and properties of novel fluorinated benzoxazine resins and bismaleimide resin, respectively. The third portion of this dissertation focuses on two side projects. Chapter 7 shows the systematic investigation of the polymerization of N-phenylmaleimide (N-PMI) using fluorides as an initiator. Chapter 8 shows a systematic understanding the structure-NLO property relationships in triarylamine based push-pull NLO chromophores by a combination of several computational methods. Finally, chapter 9 describes the synthesis and characterization of monomers and polymers.

Book Surface Composition of Fluorinated Poly amide Urethane Block Copolymers by Electron Spectroscopy for Chemical Analysis

Download or read book Surface Composition of Fluorinated Poly amide Urethane Block Copolymers by Electron Spectroscopy for Chemical Analysis written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The surface composition and near surface depth profiles of solution-cast films of poly(amide urethane) block copolymers were measured using angle-dependent electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis (ESCA). Segregation of fluorinated polyamide soft segment to the surface was detected and quantified. The poly(amide urethane)s were made from amine-terminated polyamides with N-alkylated fluorinated side chains as well as fluorinated backbones, methylenebis(cyclohexane diisocyanate) H12MDI, and butanediol. The resulting copolymers display extremely low surface energy. Annealing of the solution-cast films drives the fluorinated side chains to the surface. A deconvolution program was utilized to obtain composition depth profiles and to confirm phase segregation. (AN).
