Our countries share many similar experiences, meaning that we can learn from each other. In support of this cooperation, we have the four-year cooperation programme ‘Together for gender equality’. For 2018, Sweden has chosen to prioritise issues concerning men and gender equality, efforts to prevent men’s violence against women, and gender mainstreaming; we will conduct several Nordic activities on these themes. The programme of activities for the 2018 Swedish Presidency also supports the efforts of the Nordic countries and the Nordic Council of Ministers to achieve the goals of the 2030 Agenda.

Download or read book Contesting Nordicness written by Jani Marjanen and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2021-12-20 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The terms ‘Nordic’ and ‘Scandinavian’ are widely used to refer to the politics, society and culture of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. But why have people felt the need to frame things as Nordic and why has the adjective Nordic become so prominent? This book adopts a rhetorical approach, analysing the speech acts which have shaped the meanings of the term. What do the different terms Nordic and Scandinavian have in common, and how have the uses of these terms changed in different historical periods? What accounts for the apparent upsurge in uses of the rhetoric of Nordicness in the 2010s? Drawing on eight case studies of the uses of Nordic and Scandinavian from the nineteenth century to the present day, the book explores the appeal and the flexibility of the rhetoric of Nordicness, in relation to race, openness, gender equality, food, crime fiction, Nordic co-operation and the Nordic model. Arguing that ‘Nordic’ and ‘Scandinavian’ are flexible and contested concepts that have been used in different, often contradictory and inherently political ways, the book suggests that the usage of the term has evolved from a means of creating a cultural community, to forging political co-operation and further to marketing models in politics and popular culture. The rhetorical approach also shows how many of the hallmarks of Nordic political culture, such as the Nordic model, Nordic gender equality or Nordic openness are more recent conceptualisations than usually assumed. As such, the book argues for the need to turn attention away from analysing the different components of Nordicness into studying how, when, and for what purpose different features were made Nordic.

Book Flexible work arrangements The Nordic Gender Effect at Work

Download or read book Flexible work arrangements The Nordic Gender Effect at Work written by NIKK, Nordic Information on Gender and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2018-08-20 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Promoting gender equality at work is not only a matter of rights; it is the smart thing to do from the perspective of inclusive growth. The Nordic region is a case in point, as it has come to represent the 11th largest economy in the world, not despite policy commitments to gender equality and social justice, but because of it. The Nordic countries have robust economies and good living conditions, where both women and men have high labour force participation rates. However, the gender pay gap is persistent and occupational segregation continues to hinder gender equality. The Nordic Gender Effect at Work briefs share the collective Nordic experience in investing in gender equality including parental leave, childcare, flexible work arrangements, leadership and equal opportunities at work, and seek to make further progress through cooperation.

Book The Nordic region a step closer to gender balance in research Joint Nordic strategies and measures to promote gender balance among researchers in academia

Download or read book The Nordic region a step closer to gender balance in research Joint Nordic strategies and measures to promote gender balance among researchers in academia written by Solveig Bergman and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2013-06-25 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nearly 80 per cent of all professors in the Nordic region are men. Gender balance in academia is therefore an important research policy issue. Hitherto it has been scarcely debated on a joint Nordic level. This report shows the status and the development in the field. The report gives examples of successful practices and highlights research policy challenges that are important to analyse in a gender and equality perspective. Given the lack of comparative investigations and research on the gender balance in academia in the Nordic region, there is a need to develop Nordic cooperation in this field. The report concludes with a number of recommendations in order to consolidate the issue of gender balance in academia as a joint policy- and research field in the Nordic region.

Book Vocational education and training in the Nordic countries

Download or read book Vocational education and training in the Nordic countries written by Simonsson, Angelica and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2022-03-08 with total page 55 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Available online: https://pub.norden.org/temanord2022-521/ Both the labour markets and the education systems in the Nordic countries are highly gender segregated. This gender segregation has consequences for study and working conditions, pay, and the distribution of power and resources. Combating gender bias is one of the strategic areas of intervention in official Nordic cooperation in the area of gender equality. The Nordic Council of Ministers co-operation body NIKK was commissioned to conduct a study focusing on gender segregation in VET in the Nordic countries. The study provides an introduction to what we know about VET and gender as an area of knowledge, describes how VET in the Nordic countries is organised, and gives examples of how these countries have worked to break patterns of gender segregation and to retain pupils who belong to the under-represented sex. The study also includes a concluding analysis section.
