Book The Schur Algorithm Reproducing Kernel Spaces and System Theory

Download or read book The Schur Algorithm Reproducing Kernel Spaces and System Theory written by Daniel Alpay and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2001 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The class of Schur functions consists of analytic functions on the unit disk that are bounded by $1$. The Schur algorithm associates to any such function a sequence of complex constants, which is much more useful than the Taylor coefficients. There is a generalization to matrix-valued functions and a corresponding algorithm. These generalized Schur functions have important applications to the theory of linear operators, to signal processing and control theory, and to other areas of engineering. In this book, Alpay looks at matrix-valued Schur functions and their applications from the unifying point of view of spaces with reproducing kernels. This approach is used here to study the relationship between the modeling of time-invariant dissipative linear systems and the theory of linear operators. The inverse scattering problem plays a key role in the exposition. The point of view also allows for a natural way to tackle more general cases, such as nonstationary systems, non-positive metrics, and pairs of commuting nonself-adjoint operators. This is the English translation of a volume originally published in French by the Societe Mathematique de France. Translated by Stephen S. Wilson.

Book Control of Boundaries and Stabilization

Download or read book Control of Boundaries and Stabilization written by Jacques Simon and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-02-06 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present proceedings volume is devoted to two subjects. Stabilization with emphasis on exact controllability: considering a physical system, such as a vibrating plate, one can reach a steady state in a finite time by acting on the boundary. Control of boundaries: given a physical system find the geometry of the domain (optimal shape) which minimizes a cost related to the solution of a boundary value problem in this domain, for example find a minimum drag profile. Many lectures included mathematical analysis as well as engineering applications and numerical simulation.

Book Geometric Theory for Infinite Dimensional Systems

Download or read book Geometric Theory for Infinite Dimensional Systems written by Hans J. Zwart and published by Springer. This book was released on 1989-02-08 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The monograph is addressed to researchers in the field of geometric theory of infinite dimensional systems. The author uses basic concepts of the infinite dimensional system theory, approximate controllability, initial observability, which are covered in the second and third chapter. The book is self-contained with respect to the notions of the geometric theory, although sometimes the author refers to the references for the finite dimensional case.

Book Stochastic Adaptive Control Results and Simulations

Download or read book Stochastic Adaptive Control Results and Simulations written by Alexis Aloneftis and published by Springer. This book was released on 1987 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theme of this monograph is the adaptive control of systems in a stochastic environment and, more precisely, the study of the tracking problem for ARMAX SISO stochastic systems with time invariant and time varying parameters. Results of simultaneous tracking and parameter identification are included. The author has aimed to (1) provide a reasonably self-contained and up-to-date exposition of the tracking problem after having properly placed it amongst numerous ideas, approaches, and subproblems related to adaptive control, (2) display computer simulation results and discuss their comparative behaviour, (3) introduce a new approach to the stochastic adaptive control with promising results, and (4) qualitatively discuss the adaptive control problem in the hope of improving our understanding of it, stimulate the informed reader to come up with new ideas, and attract newcomers to its study. The reader is assumed to have studied control systems at the graduate level and to have a reasonably good grasp of basic probability theory. Apart from its educational value to the adaptive control student, it is hoped that the accumulation of scattered results and their computer simulation, as well as an extensive reference section will attract the active researcher in this field.

Book Stochastic Optimal Control Theory with Application in Self Tuning Control

Download or read book Stochastic Optimal Control Theory with Application in Self Tuning Control written by Kenneth J. Hunt and published by Springer. This book was released on 1989-02-06 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book merges two major areas of control: the design of control systems and adaptive control. Original contributions are made in the polynomial approach to stochastic optimal control and the resulting control laws are then manipulated into a form suitable for application in the self-tuning control framework. A major contribution is the derivation of both scalar and multivariable optimal controllers for the rejection of measurable disturbances using feedforward. A powerful feature of the book is the presentation of a case-study in which the LQG self-tuner was tested on the pressure control loop of a power station. The broad coverage of the book should appeal not only to research workers, teachers and students of control engineering, but also to practicing industrial control engineers.

Book The Hyperbolic Map and Applications to the Linear Quadratic Regulator

Download or read book The Hyperbolic Map and Applications to the Linear Quadratic Regulator written by Brian J. Daiuto and published by Springer. This book was released on 1989-11-20 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research monograph gives a complete discussion of the theory of the discrete-time hyperbolic map. Both scalar and matrix representations are considered. The dynamics of the map are analyzed and discussions of stability, quasiperiodicity, and chaos are included. Several applications are discusssed, the most important being the discrete-time linear time-invariant quadratic regulator. The results obtained from this analysis are then extended to the continuous-time linear regulator. A discussion of the linear quadratic regulator with negative state weighting provides some important insights into the general regulator theory. The results contained in this monograph should be accessible to the first year graduate student or advanced senior undergraduate. Interested readers should also have a background in ODE's, difference equations, optimization theory, and/or digital control theory.
