Book Nonlinear Analysis of Axisymmetric Shells

Download or read book Nonlinear Analysis of Axisymmetric Shells written by Haksik Shin and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present study is concerned with nonlinear analysis of toroidal shells and storage tanks. The study serves to demonstrate the usefulness of the differential quadrature method in this area of computational mechanics. The problem of the response of axisymmetric toroidal shells to uniform external pressure forms the first part of this study. Nonlinear thin shell theory, accounting for large displacements, is employed. The new differential quadrature method is used to obtain numerical results. For validation a bifurcation solution is found using the finite element method. The commercial code ADINA is used for this purpose. Finally the two methods are used to provide results for eight cases of toroidal shells. An axisymmetric analysis of a liquid storage tank with a circular base plate resting on an elastic foundation forms the second part of this study. Nonlinear shell theory is used for the tank wall and base plate, while a linear model is used for the foundation. A convergence study is carried out to determine the appropriate analysis parameters for the method. Partial validation is obtained by comparison with previously published results. These results are compared with finite element method results. Additional results are presented covering a wide range of tank geometric parameters.

Download or read book NONLINEAR ANALYSIS FOR AXISYMMETRIC ELASTIC STRESSES IN RING STIFFENED SEGMENTED SHELLS OF REVOLUTION written by and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 43 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The finite-difference method is used for the nonlinear analysis of shells of revolution consisting of elastic shell segments of various geometries and wall constructions joined by elastic rings. The analysis and associated digital computer program were developed in response to the need for a better design tool for practical shell structures. Numerical results are presented for displacement and stress distributions in various pressure vessels. Particular emphasis is given to systems in which nonlinear effects are important and may influence the design. Values calculated with linear theory are compared with those from nonlinear theory.

Book Nonlinear Behaviour and Stability of Thin Walled Shells

Download or read book Nonlinear Behaviour and Stability of Thin Walled Shells written by Natalia I. Obodan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-07-08 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the nonlinear behaviour of thin-wall shells (single- and multilayered with delamination areas) under various uniform and non-uniform loadings. The dependence of critical (buckling) load upon load variability is revealed to be highly non-monotonous, showing minima when load variability is close to the eigenmode variabilities of solution branching points of the respective nonlinear boundary problem. A novel numerical approach is employed to analyze branching points and to build primary, secondary, and tertiary bifurcation paths of the nonlinear boundary problem for the case of uniform loading. The load levels of singular points belonging to the paths are considered to be critical load estimates for the case of non-uniform loadings.

Book Semi inverse Method In Nonlinear Problems Of Axisymmetric Shells Forming

Download or read book Semi inverse Method In Nonlinear Problems Of Axisymmetric Shells Forming written by Anatoly S Yudin and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2021-02-18 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Currently, solving problems based on designing and calculating complex structures with significant nonlinearity usually require:Semi-inverse Method in Nonlinear Problems of Axisymmetric Shells Forming provides an alternative method for solving problems with deep geometric and physical nonlinearity. Easily implemented on normal PCs, this method is fast and creative. The reader can use integrated packages of the MathCad variety that implement 'live mathematics'. Such packages give the reader the freedom to create programs for themselves. In the proposed method, a function for molding pressure is constructed, which is output to a stationary value by varying the shape parameters and edge reactions. The final shape of the shell is given using analytical approximations. Applications of the method are applied to real shell structures. Forming spherical and ellipsoidal shells (flapping membranes), correcting the shape of the bottom of a container for liquid cargo, modeling the operation of a flat jack, and converting a cylindrical shell into a barrel-shape are also considered.

Book Nonlinear Material and Geometric Behavior of Shell Structures

Download or read book Nonlinear Material and Geometric Behavior of Shell Structures written by Georges A. Dupuis and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The nonlinear analysis of shell structures is studied by both the Eulerian and the Lagrangian approach. Current methods are discussed on the basis of both formulations. It is found that the widely used updated procedure is a combination of both approaches. From the current standpoint it makes use of a mixture of incremental stiffnesses derived by both approaches. The 'bowing' effect was found to be the main source of error in this updated procedure, and this effect was shown to be negligible when a large number of elements were used. Case studies investigate various aspects of the nonlinear behavior of arches, axisymmetric shells of revolution, flat plates, and arbitrary shells. (Author).

Book Flexible Shells

Download or read book Flexible Shells written by E. L. Axelrad and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Euromech-Colloquium Nr. 165 The shell-theory development has changed its emphasis during the last two decades. Nonlinear problems have become its main motive. But the analysis was until recently predominantly devoted to shells designed for strength and stiffness. Nonlinearity is here relevant to buckling, to intensively vary able stress states. These are (with exception of some limit cases) covered by the quasi-shallow shell theory. The emphasis of the nonlinear analysis begins to shift further - to shells which are designed for and actually capable of large elastic displacements. These shells, used in industry for over a century, have been recently termedj1exible shells. The European Mechanics Colloquium 165. was concerned with the theory of elastic shells in connection with its applications to these shells. The Colloquium was intended to discuss: 1. The formulations of the nonlinear shell theory, different in the generality of kine matic hypothesis, and in the choice of dependent variables. 2. The specialization of the shell theory for the class of shells and the respective elastic stress states assuring flexibility. 3. Possibilities to deal with the complications of the buckling analysis of flexible shells, caused by the precritial perturbations of their shape and stress state. 4. Methods of solution appropriate for the nonlinear flexible-shell problems. 5. Applications of the theory. There were 71 participants the sessions were presided over (in that order) by E. Reissner, J. G. Simmonds, W. T. Koiter, R. C. Tennyson, F. A. Emmerling, E. Rarnm, E. L. Axelrad.

Book Nonlinear Static and Dynamic Analysis of Shells of Revolution Under Axisymmetric Loading

Download or read book Nonlinear Static and Dynamic Analysis of Shells of Revolution Under Axisymmetric Loading written by Sambamurthy Nagarajan and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method of analyzing nonlinear static and dynamic responses of deformable solids has been developed based on an incremental variational formulation using the Lagrangian mode of description. The material nonlinearity due to plasticity or viscoplasticity as well as the geometric nonlinearity due to large displacements are considered. The equations of motion are obtained in a linearized incremental form using the principle of virtual work and solved using step-by-step numerical integration procedures. Equilibrium check is made at the end of each step and the residual forces are added to the next increment for improved accuracy over the pure incremental method. For elastic-plastic solutions the flow theory of plasticity is used along with the von Mises yield condition for isotropically hardening materials. The viscoplastic constitutive theory is also in the form of an associated flow law and capable of considering strain rate sensitive behavior. The viscoplastic strains are taken into account using an initial strain formulation. The discretization of the structure is achieved by the use of degenerate isoparametric finite elements and the computer codes that have been developed are capable of analyzing large axisymmetric deformations of shells of revolution. Download or read book Part I Task 3 2 9 Bending and Buckling of a One Dimensional Model Simulating a Conical Shell Part II Task 3 2 11 Nonlinear Analysis and Computer Program for Axisymmetric Static Response of Shells of Revolution written by Chin Hao Chang and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new method for analysis of bending and buckling of conical shells is presented. The method shows that a constraint of conical shell can be brought into the system by the variational method in conjection with the Lagrange multiplier. The constraint was erroneously considered as a boundary condition in most of the literature. The method is demonstrated by a one dimensional model which simulates an element of a symmetrically deformable elastic conical shell. A set of equations for bending of large deflection and buckling for the model is derived. The exact solutions of one element with both ends simply supported are given. A finite difference solution and a corresponding computer program is presented which determines the nonlinear axisymmetric static response of thin shells of revolution. The boundary conditions are taken in a general form which allows the program to handle any combination of elastic restraints at the edges. The analysis and computer program are described in detail and sample calculations are included. (Author).
