Book Collisional Line Broadening and Shifting of Atmospheric Gases

Download or read book Collisional Line Broadening and Shifting of Atmospheric Gases written by Jeanna Buldyreva and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2011 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a comprehensive overview of the modern theory of spectral line broadening and shifting by pressure of atmospheric gases. It describes current semi-classical methods for calculating vibrotational line widths and shifts, including very recent modifications and new developments realised by the authors themselves. For most of the considered molecular systems, analytical formulae are also given, which enable the calculation of line broadening coefficients without the use of semi-classical methods. The results of calculations by various approaches are compared with experimental data available in the literature. Numerous appendices list theoretical expressions and parameters' values required for the writing of computer programs for calculation of line broadening and line shifting coefficients. The book is addressed to undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as to professional scientists and researchers working in the field of molecular physics, molecular spectroscopy, quantum chemistry and mathematical physics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Specialist Periodical Reports provide systematic and detailed review coverage of progress in the major areas of chemical research. Written by experts in their specialist fields the series creates a unique service for the active research chemist, supplying regular critical in-depth accounts of progress in particular areas of chemistry. For over 80 years the Royal Society of Chemistry and its predecessor, the Chemical Society, have been publishing reports charting developments in chemistry, which originally took the form of Annual Reports. However, by 1967 the whole spectrum of chemistry could no longer be contained within one volume and the series Specialist Periodical Reports was born. The Annual Reports themselves still existed but were divided into two, and subsequently three, volumes covering Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry. For more general coverage of the highlights in chemistry they remain a 'must'. Since that time the SPR series has altered according to the fluctuating degree of activity in various fields of chemistry. Some titles have remained unchanged, while others have altered their emphasis along with their titles; some have been combined under a new name whereas others have had to be discontinued. The current list of Specialist Periodical Reports can be seen on the inside flap of this volume.

Book Molecular Spectroscopy Modern Research V3

Download or read book Molecular Spectroscopy Modern Research V3 written by K.N. Rao and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 467 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Molecular Spectroscopy: Modern Research, Volume III is a collection of papers presented at the 40th Annual Molecular Spectroscopy Symposium, held at the Ohio State University. The contributors of this seven-chapter text cover the significant advances in molecular spectroscopic research and their application in chemistry. Chapters 1 and 2 discuss first the higher-order vibration-rotation interactions in molecules and then present formulas and an insight into the direction being taken in theoretical pursuits. Chapter 3 provides an extensive compilation of published intensity and collision broadening parameters derived from infrared spectra. This chapter also contains a detailed discussion using consistent notation of some of the methods commonly applied to extract such information from laboratory spectra. Chapter 4 examines a variety of laser systems and their application in investigations involving triatomic free radicals and ions, while chapter 5 considers the developments in the microwave spectroscopic studies on nonpolar molecules when their symmetry is reduced by isotopic substitution. Chapter 6 emphasizes the quasi-linear molecular problem to develop an appreciation of the symptoms of quasi-linearity and theoretical treatments thereof. This chapter also examines the increasing role of highly resolved spectra in the interpretation of various large-amplitude motions in molecules. Lastly, Chapter 7 describes the electric multipolar moments of hydrogen and its isotopes. Spectroscopists, chemists, and researchers will find this work invaluable.

Book Status and Future Developments in the Study of Transport Properties

Download or read book Status and Future Developments in the Study of Transport Properties written by W.A. Wakeham and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the fourteen papers presented at the NATO-sponsored Ad vanced Research Workshop on the 'Status and Future Developments in the Study of Transport Properties' held in Porto Carras, Halkidiki, Greece from May 29 to May 31, 1991. The Workshop was organised to provide a forum for the discussion among prac titioners of the state-of-the-art in the treatment of the macroscopic, non-equilibrium properties of gases. The macroscopic quantities considered all arise as a result of the pairwise interactions of molecules in states perturbed from an equilibrium, Maxwellian distribution. The non-equilibrium properties of gases have been studied in detail for well over a century following the formulation of the Boltzmann equation in 1872. Since then the range of phenomena amenable to experimental study has expanded greatly from the properties characteristic of a bulk, non-uniform gas, such as the viscosity and thermal conductivity, to the study of differential scattering cross-sections in molecular beams at thermal energies, to studies of spectral-line widths of individual molecules and of Van der Waals complexes and even further. The common thread linking all of these studies is found in the corresponding theory which relates them all to the potential energy function describing the interaction of pairs of molecules. Thus, accompanying the experimental development there has been a corresponding improvement in the theoretical formulation of the quantities characterising the various phenomena.

Book Infrared Spectroscopy of Diatomics for Space Observation

Download or read book Infrared Spectroscopy of Diatomics for Space Observation written by Pierre-Richard Dahoo and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2018-01-03 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes different theoretical models developed to identify the near and mid infrared (IR) spectra of diatomic molecules isolated in the gas phase or subjected to environmental constraints, useful for the study of environmental sciences, planetology and astrophysics. The applications presented show how molecular interactions modify the near and mid IR spectra of isolated diatomics under the effect of pressure, a nano-cage (substitution site, Clathrate, Fullerene, Zeolite) or surfaces, to identify the characteristics of the perturbing environment.
