Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On May 1, 1837, Episcopal bishop George Washington Doane welcomed 52 young women from eight states to his new school, St. Mary's Hall, in Burlington, New Jersey. Bishop Doane's radical innovation of giving young women the same mental training as young men motivated people from far and wide to send their daughters to this new school. Doane's visionary efforts soon turned many heads and changed many hearts, and the school grew accordingly. Today, as a coeducational school known as Doane Academy, the institution carries forward Bishop Doane's passion to push the boundaries of education. Located along the banks of the Delaware River, Doane Academy builds and instills character and a sense of duty into its students and prepares and guides them as they move "Right Onward" to change the world.

Dr. Hall's Lectures on Temperance and Missions to the Masses; Also, an Oration on Christian Liberty; Together With His Reception by the New York Union League Club I' quite forgot it. Why, we could sing every line of that hymn as well as you. It suits us exactly, and you sing it to our tune [laughter]. I am not going. To make a speech, for I deter mmed I would not do anything till Sunday; but my friend Dr. Cuyler has announced me, and when I saw it in the paper this morning, I thought, Here is a fix; my friend will be compromised if I do not appear, and on the other hand I have made a promise to friends that I will do nothing til] Sunday so I am not going to do anything to-night. I shan't lec ture; I shan't make a speech; 1 have resolved not to trouble my brain about what I shall say. I thought as you sung this line of that grand hymn. Book excerpt: Is it stormy weather with you? Do cares, disappointments, bereavements, as a heavy cloud, deluge you with sorrow? Do spiritual troubles assail you as a hurricane, and drive here and there your harassed soul? Do the winds and the waves beat upon your frail bark, so that it seems about to sink? "O afflicted one, tossed with tempest, and not comforted," listen to the voice of Jesus, who comes to you in the storm, walking upon the waters, and says, "It is I; do not be afraid!" The design of religion is to make us joyful. This world is indeed a valley of tears, but the Man of sorrows has visited it that we may rejoice. We are surrounded by causes of alarm, but the gospel bids us fear not. And that which alone can enable us to be joyful amid sorrows, and of good courage amid perils, is the presence of our God and Savior. To believe in Him as always near, always kind, always mighty to save, is the true and sole antidote to fear and grief. It is only in proportion as we recognize His voice, as that of a friend, saying, "It is I," that we can comply with his exhortation, "Be of good cheer; do not be afraid."
