Book Acting and Singing with Archetypes

Download or read book Acting and Singing with Archetypes written by Janet B. Rodgers and published by Hal Leonard Corporation. This book was released on 2009 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Mother, the Lover, the Trickster, the Spiritual and Temporal Leader, the Devil-these are just some of the universal essences, known as archetypes, that lie deep within the human spirit; these are forces that we all recognize and embody in some capacity. Acting and Singing with Archetypes is a groundbreaking, experiential book that uses archetypes as the basis of an unprecedented method of study for actors and singers. By using fifteen archetype explorations that employ vocal exercises, mask making, monologue and scene work, breathing exercises, role playing, storytelling, singing, meditation, self-reflection, and more, this book empowers actors to interpret character and voice in exciting, untraditional ways. The explorations ultimately leave performing artists with the tools they need to develop their theatrical roles to the fullest, utilize their singing and speech abilities with the widest range of emotion, and unlock their overall creative potential. The book also reinforces the importance of breathing, relaxing, stretching, and other physical techniques that enable healthy practice of the craft. Geared toward theatre teachers, directors, and theatre workshop leaders, this is an incredible teaching tool, accompanied by a CD of demonstrative recordings of vocal exercises and other guiding content sung and spoken by authors Janet B. Rodgers and Frankie Armstrong. Book jacket.

Book Songs from Sweden

    Book Details:
  • Author : Ola Johansson
  • Publisher : Springer Nature
  • Release : 2020-05-16
  • ISBN : 9811527369
  • Pages : 184 pages

Download or read book Songs from Sweden written by Ola Johansson and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-05-16 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Songs from Sweden shows how Swedish songwriters and producers are the creative forces behind much of today’s international pop music. As Ola Johansson reveals, the roots of this “music miracle” can be found in Sweden’s culture, economy, and thriving music industry, concentrated in Stockholm. While Swedish writer-producers developed early global recognition for making commercially successful pop music, new Swedish writer-producers have continuously emerged during the last two decades. Global artists travel to Stockholm to negotiate, record, and co-write songs. At the same time, Swedish writer-producers are part of a global collaborative network that spans the world. In addition to concrete commercial accomplishments, the Swedish success is also a result of the acquisition of reputational capital gained through positive associations that the global music industry holds about Swedish music. Ultimately, pop songs from Sweden exhibit a form of cultural hybridity, drawing from both local and global cultural expressions.

Book Distributed Network Systems

Download or read book Distributed Network Systems written by Weijia Jia and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2004-12-15 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Both authors have taught the course of “Distributed Systems” for many years in the respective schools. During the teaching, we feel strongly that “Distributed systems” have evolved from traditional “LAN” based distributed systems towards “Internet based” systems. Although there exist many excellent textbooks on this topic, because of the fast development of distributed systems and network programming/protocols, we have difficulty in finding an appropriate textbook for the course of “distributed systems” with orientation to the requirement of the undergraduate level study for today’s distributed technology. Specifically, from - to-date concepts, algorithms, and models to implementations for both distributed system designs and application programming. Thus the philosophy behind this book is to integrate the concepts, algorithm designs and implementations of distributed systems based on network programming. After using several materials of other textbooks and research books, we found that many texts treat the distributed systems with separation of concepts, algorithm design and network programming and it is very difficult for students to map the concepts of distributed systems to the algorithm design, prototyping and implementations. This book intends to enable readers, especially postgraduates and senior undergraduate level, to study up-to-date concepts, algorithms and network programming skills for building modern distributed systems. It enables students not only to master the concepts of distributed network system but also to readily use the material introduced into implementation practices.

DEXA covers a broad field: all aspects of databases, knowledge based systems, knowledge management, web-based systems, information systems, related technologies and their applications. Once again there were a good number of submissions: out of 183 papers that were submitted, the program committee selected 92 to be presented. In the first year of this new millennium DEXA has come back to the United Kingdom, following events in Vienna, Berlin, Valencia, Prague, Athens, London, Zurich, Toulouse, Vienna and Florence. The past decade has seen several revolutionary developments, one of which was the explosion of Internet-related applications in the areas covered by DEXA, developments in which DEXA has played a role and in which DEXA will continue to play a role in its second decade, starting with this conference.

Book Spotify Teardown

    Book Details:
  • Author : Maria Eriksson
  • Publisher : MIT Press
  • Release : 2019-02-19
  • ISBN : 0262038900
  • Pages : 287 pages

Download or read book Spotify Teardown written by Maria Eriksson and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2019-02-19 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An innovative investigation of the inner workings of Spotify that traces the transformation of audio files into streamed experience. Spotify provides a streaming service that has been welcomed as disrupting the world of music. Yet such disruption always comes at a price. Spotify Teardown contests the tired claim that digital culture thrives on disruption. Borrowing the notion of “teardown” from reverse-engineering processes, in this book a team of five researchers have playfully disassembled Spotify's product and the way it is commonly understood. Spotify has been hailed as the solution to illicit downloading, but it began as a partly illicit enterprise that grew out of the Swedish file-sharing community. Spotify was originally praised as an innovative digital platform but increasingly resembles a media company in need of regulation, raising questions about the ways in which such cultural content as songs, books, and films are now typically made available online. Spotify Teardown combines interviews, participant observations, and other analyses of Spotify's “front end” with experimental, covert investigations of its “back end.” The authors engaged in a series of interventions, which include establishing a record label for research purposes, intercepting network traffic with packet sniffers, and web-scraping corporate materials. The authors' innovative digital methods earned them a stern letter from Spotify accusing them of violating its terms of use; the company later threatened their research funding. Thus, the book itself became an intervention into the ethics and legal frameworks of corporate behavior.

Book Making Music Making Society

Download or read book Making Music Making Society written by Josep Martí and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2018-01-23 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A society is the result of interacting individuals, and individuals are also the result of this interaction. This interaction happens through music, among other factors. As such, music constitutes a powerful resource for symbolic interaction, which constitutes the medium and substance of a culture. The importance of music in a society is clearly brought to light in the role that it plays in the three basic parameters of the social logics: identity, social order and the need for exchange. If music is so important to us, it is because, apart from its assigned aesthetic values, it fits closely with the dynamics of each of these three different parameters. These parameters, which are consubstantial to the social nature of the human being, constitute the core of the book as they manifest in musical practices. This publication addresses important issues such as the role of music in shaping identities, how music and social order are intertwined and why music is so relevant in human interaction. The last part of the book explores issues related to the social application of musical research. The volume brings together specialists from different academic disciplines with the same powerful starting point: music is not merely something related to the social, but rather a social life itself, something capable of structuring the social experience.
