Download or read book Natural Social Order Moses and Jesus written by Norman Wangberg and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2013-04 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Natural Social Order, Moses, and Jesus demonstrates that the most realistic and practical foundations for life are not those that people choose in order to try to create what they imagine to be a better world. The most realistic and practical foundations inhere in a world and order that people did not create, the natural world and its order. Discover those foundations and a way of life based upon them. See from an objective, natural worldview, instead of from the more familiar perspectives of artificial worldviews which present subjective, biased, and misleading views of reality and practicality. Instead of focusing on idealistic or other worlds of human imagination and design, be inspired by the real world, the natural world and order that inspired Moses, Jesus, and the Bible. Learn how much more realistic, practical, and beneficial life can be when it is oriented and adapted to God's creation and order, instead of to man-made worlds and orders which invariably conflict with God's creation. Learn how to live within the original context for life, as life was made to be, as part of the only world and order that gave birth to life and upon which all life depends.

Book Jesus Christ Our Lord

    Book Details:
  • Author : C. Norman Kraus
  • Publisher : Wipf and Stock Publishers
  • Release : 2004-08-06
  • ISBN : 1725211408
  • Pages : 264 pages

Download or read book Jesus Christ Our Lord written by C. Norman Kraus and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2004-08-06 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In response to readers' comments, this revised edition provides helpful clarifications, charts, and expanded notes and references. Kraus, in a theological description of Jesus Christ, offers answers to questions of Jesus' identity and the nature of the revelation-salvation which came through him. This anticipates his volume, 'God Our Savior', dealing with implications of Christ's revelation for other data of theology, such as God, humankind, the Holy Spirit, church, and eschatology. For many years the idea of vicarious suffering to atone for the sins of humanity has not been self-evident in Western culture, to say nothing of the cultures of Asia. Western theologians have presupposed Roman categories of guilt and legal penalty as the framework for their explanations. However, this has been unsatisfactory in cultures where social tradition and shame are primary moral sanctions. Observing that the biblical cultural context was more oriented to shame than to a legal concept of guilt, Kraus has reinterpreted the meaning and efficacy of the cross as the means of God's salvation. Such a reinterpretation requires that one also reevaluate the theological definition of Jesus' person. How one understands what he did for us is closely related to how one understands who he was. His identity and role mutually impact each other. Thus one must ask, Who was this one who reconciled us to God by suffering the shame of our sin? In answer, Kraus finds concepts of self-identity and self-revelation most helpful. Jesus, the self-revelation of God to us, is God-giving-himself-to-us. That self-revelation comes as a self-giving, and only in the form of a genuinely personal, historical, and human relationship. In all of this the author intends to present an authentically biblical picture of Jesus, but in the context of modern language and thought forms.

He aims to offer a careful and simple discussion of all the central biblical texts that speak to us about baptism, the nature of signs and rites, the character of the church as the body of Christ, and the possibility of apostasy. In the end, the author urges us to face up to the wonderful conclusion that Scripture attributes an astonishing power to the initiation rite of baptism.

Book Matthew Through the Centuries

Download or read book Matthew Through the Centuries written by Ian Boxall and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2019-02-04 with total page 565 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The reception of the Gospel of Matthew over two millennia: commentary and interpretation Matthew Through the Centuries offers an overview of the reception history of one of the most prominent gospels in Christian worship. Examining the reception of Matthew from the perspectives of a wide range of interpreters—from Origen and Hilary of Poitiers to Mary Cornwallis and Bob Marley—this insightful commentary explains the major trends in the reception of Matthew in various ecclesial, historical, and cultural contexts. Focusing on characteristically Matthean features, detailed chapter-by-chapter commentary highlights diverse receptions and interpretations of the gospel. Broad exploration of areas such as liturgy, literature, drama, film, hymnody, political discourse, and visual art illustrates the enormous impact Matthew continues to have on Judeo-Christian civilization. Known as ‘the Church’s Gospel,’ Matthew’s text has been the subject of apologetic and theological controversy for hundreds of years. It has been seen as justification for political and ecclesial status quo and as a path to radical discipleship. Matthew has influenced divergent political, spiritual, and cultural figures such as Francis of Assisi, John Ruskin, Leo Tolstoy, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and Mahatma Gandhi. Matthew’s interest in ecclesiology provides early structures of ecclesial life, such as resolution of community disputes, communal prayer, and liturgical prescriptions for the Eucharist and baptism. A significant addition to the acclaimed Blackwell Bible Commentaries series, Matthew Through the Centuries is an indispensable resource for both students and experts in areas including religious and biblical studies, literature, history, politics, and those interested in the influence of the Bible on Western culture.
