This book was released on 2013-06-27 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Sovereign Grant Act 2011 which came into effect from 1 April 2012 consolidated the funding provided to support the official duties of the Queen and maintain the Occupied Royal Palaces that up to 31 March 2012 had been provided under the Civil List and the Grants-in-aid for the maintenance of the Occupied Royal Palaces, Royal Travel and Communications and Information. The Queen's official expenditure is met from public funds in exchange for the surrender by The Queen of the revenue from the Crown Estate. The Sovereign Grant was set at 31.0 million pounds for 2012-13. Official expenditure met by this Grant in 2012-13 amounted to 33.3 million pounds, an increase of 0.9 million (2.6 percent) in absolute terms and a decrease of 0.2 percent in real terms compared to the previous year. The equivalent of the excess of expenditure over the Sovereign Grant of 2.3 million in 2012-3 was drawn down from the Sovereign Grant Reserve. From 2013-14 the Sovereign Grant will be calculated based on 15 percent of the income account net surplus of the Crown Estate for the financial year two years previous. The Crown Estate surplus for the financial year 2011-12 amounted to 240.2 million pounds thereby producing a Sovereign Grant of 36.1 million for 2013-14

Download or read book HM Revenue and Customs written by Great Britain. Parliament. House of Commons. Committee of Public Accounts and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2012-12-03 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report looks at a range of issues among HM Revenue & Customs' activities, but principally into the corporation tax paid by multinational companies. International companies are able to exploit national and international tax structures to minimise corporation tax on the economic activity they conduct in the UK. It is believed that this practice is widespread and that HMRC is not taking sufficiently aggressive action to assess and collect the appropriate amount of corporation tax. Both HMRC and corporate taxpayers are failing to meet the legitimate public expectations from the tax system. Evidence received was unconvincing, in some cases evasive, and there is concern that multinationals have an unfair competitive advantage. A change of mindset needs also to apply to HMRC's approach to the Tax Gap - the difference between tax collected and that which, in the Department's view, should be collected. While total tax revenues have increased by £4 billion since 2010-11, the Department's own assessment of the gap stands at £32 billion and has only reduced by £1 billion since 2004-05. HMRC deserves praise for clearing the backlog of un-reconciled legacy PAYE cases, before its target of December 2012, but is too complacent about the service it provides to customers. The next challenges HMRC faces are the roll-out of the Real Time Information system and the changes to child benefit. The system is vital for the Department for Work and Pensions' introduction of Universal Credit, but HMRC has no contingency planning to cope with any delays in implementation. The Department's performance in reducing the level of error and fraud on the tax credits it pays has got worse rather than better, and it has failed to meet its target

Book Mapping Corporate Education Reform

Download or read book Mapping Corporate Education Reform written by Wayne Au and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-04-10 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mapping Corporate Education Reform outlines and analyzes the complex relationships between policy actors that define education reform within the current, neoliberal context. Using social network analysis and powerful data visualization tools, the authors identify the problematic roots of these relationships and describe their effects both in the U.S. and abroad. Through a series of case studies, each chapter reveals how powerful actors, from billionaire philanthropists to multinational education corporations, leverage their resources to implement free market mechanisms within public education. By comprehensively connecting the dots of neoliberal education reforms, the authors reveal not only the details of the reforms themselves, but the relationships that enable actors to amass troubling degrees of political power through network governance. A critical analysis of the actors and interests behind education policies, Mapping Corporate Education Reform uncovers the frequently obscured operations of educational governance and offers key insights into education reform at the present moment.
