Book Unfading Light

Download or read book Unfading Light written by Richard Fritzky and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2020-11-02 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rich Fritzky poses five questions to forty-five individuals who have devoted much, if not all of their lives, to Abraham Lincoln. The individuals reveal what led them to him in the first place, the attribute or ‘fixed mark’ that sealed their belonging to him, the conversations that they would most have liked to have had with him, the words of his that they were most moved by, and the why and how of his, maybe just maybe, helping save the soul of the Republic yet again in our own time. Among those interviewed were eleven celebrated Lincoln scholars and historians, the leaders of the National Lincoln Forum, the Abraham Lincoln Association, Lincoln Groups, and Civil War Roundtables from coast to coast, two celebrated Lincoln artists, an array of Lincoln impersonators, including Gettysburg’s own, curators, animators, professors, teachers, presenters, and more. They so movingly responded, inspiring and driving the author deep into Lincoln’s universe and into much material that is not often considered especially as to racism and race, his shadow-boxing with God, his faith and doubt, his exquisite humanity and extraordinary ability to lead, his nation of suffering and the torture it exacted upon him, and his rich reverence for both all that America was and could be.

Book Nancy Hanks

Download or read book Nancy Hanks written by Alden Franklin Young and published by . This book was released on 2004-08-01 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nearly all the information published previously has omitted the beginning of President Lincoln. Actually, he was the Fourth president born in North Carolina. His birth was never publicized, due to conditions listed below. My new book, titled "NANCY HANKS, SINGLE MOTHER OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN," gives the following details and are guaranteed to be correct. First of all, there were at least sixteen Abraham Lincolns born within that period. They were all registered at birth, except one. President Abraham Lincoln was never registered at birth, due to pressure in the family by Mrs. Enloe, wife of little Abraham''s actual father, Abraham Enloe The conditions were as follows. Abraham Enloe was a well-to-do and influencial Scottish trader and political figure in South Carolina and Western North Carolina. After fmoving from South Carolina into North Carolina, he settled near Bostic and Forest City, NC. Puzzle creek was one bondary of this farm. A monument at the corner of this farm continues to be there today. Abraham Enloe took Nancy Hanks into their family when she was six years of age, to assist Mrs. Enloe in the housework and raising the family. This was quite common during those days. This lasted many years. When Nancy was an adult in her twenties, Mrs. Enloe took an extended horse drawy vacation and trip to visit old friends and acquaintences. This trip lasted several weeks into months. By that time Nancy had grown up, and was a beautiful lady. A "cornfield romance" developed between Mr. Enloe and Nancy during this absence. The "cornfield romance" resulted in Nancy becoming pregnant with Abraham Enloe. While Mrs. Enloe was on her trip, Nancy began to show she was pregnant. When Mrs. Enloereturned home from South Carolina, Nancy was showing she was pregnant. Mrs. Enloe blew her stack, and ordered her husband to get rid of Nancy immediately and without delay. He did just that. Mr. Enloe moved Nancy to a friend in Belmont, NC, temporarily. He then made arrangements with the buyer of his previous farm on Puzzle Creek to take care of Nancy until the baby was born. Nancy was then moved to the Puzzle Creek farm, awaiting the birth of the baby. She joined the church there while awaiting the baby. Abraham was delivered by a black mid-wife, who delivered all the babies within this local area. There was no Doctor present nor available for this delivery. Tom Lincoln had been employed by Abraham Enloe as a wagon driver to bring merchandise from Savannah and Charleston for two to three years. Tom agreed to take Nancy and baby Abraham out of North Carolina when the baby was born. Shortly after the birth, this took place. They went to the Tri-City area of Tenn-NC-VA, but Tom could not find any affordable land he could claim. After two years of being together, Tom and Nancy were married by a country minister. This marriage was registered with NO mention of baby Abraham, who was now two years of age. Abraham Enloe sent Tom a few hundred dollars to buy their first farm in Indiana. This and all the later history of the settling in Indiana is probably correct. I believe this book, "NANCY HANKS, SINGLE MOTHER OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN," should be included in all historic records of North Carolina because it is completely correct and the truth.

Book My Name Is Nancy the Journals of Nancy Hanks Lincoln

Download or read book My Name Is Nancy the Journals of Nancy Hanks Lincoln written by Deborah Keller and published by . This book was released on 2013-06-25 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "He was not a child conceived in sin but by Fate" she said. Nancy Hanks Lincoln's strength and commitment to this child would rival no other. Love, loss, passion, magic and mysticism, the decisions that shaped her life and the life of her son changed a nation forever. A blend of Indian lore and traditional religion, love and betrayal, passion and abuse, ultimately leading to acceptance and forgiveness. History has often wondered why Abraham Lincoln believed he could raise his station in life from poverty stricken rail splitter to President of the United States. The events surrounding his mother's life answers that question and more. "All that I am or ever hope to be I owe to my angel mother." -Abraham Lincoln

Book American Literature in Transition 1950 1960

Download or read book American Literature in Transition 1950 1960 written by Steven Belletto and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2017-12-28 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: American Literature in Transition, 1950–1960 explores the under-recognized complexity and variety of 1950s American literature by focalizing discussions through a series of keywords and formats that encourage readers to draw fresh connections among literary form and concepts, institutions, cultures, and social phenomena important to the decade. The first section draws attention to the relationship between literature and cultural phenomena that were new to the 1950s. The second section demonstrates the range of subject positions important in the 1950s, but still not visible in many accounts of the era. The third section explores key literary schools or movements associated with the decade, and explains how and why they developed at this particular cultural moment. The final section focuses on specific forms or genres that grew to special prominence during the 1950s. Taken together, the chapters in the four sections not only encourage us to rethink familiar texts and figures in new lights, but they also propose new archives for future study of the decade.
