This book was released on 2016-11-21 with total page 525 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Decades of research have demonstrated that the parent-child dyad and the environment of the familyâ€"which includes all primary caregiversâ€"are at the foundation of children's well- being and healthy development. From birth, children are learning and rely on parents and the other caregivers in their lives to protect and care for them. The impact of parents may never be greater than during the earliest years of life, when a child's brain is rapidly developing and when nearly all of her or his experiences are created and shaped by parents and the family environment. Parents help children build and refine their knowledge and skills, charting a trajectory for their health and well-being during childhood and beyond. The experience of parenting also impacts parents themselves. For instance, parenting can enrich and give focus to parents' lives; generate stress or calm; and create any number of emotions, including feelings of happiness, sadness, fulfillment, and anger. Parenting of young children today takes place in the context of significant ongoing developments. These include: a rapidly growing body of science on early childhood, increases in funding for programs and services for families, changing demographics of the U.S. population, and greater diversity of family structure. Additionally, parenting is increasingly being shaped by technology and increased access to information about parenting. Parenting Matters identifies parenting knowledge, attitudes, and practices associated with positive developmental outcomes in children ages 0-8; universal/preventive and targeted strategies used in a variety of settings that have been effective with parents of young children and that support the identified knowledge, attitudes, and practices; and barriers to and facilitators for parents' use of practices that lead to healthy child outcomes as well as their participation in effective programs and services. This report makes recommendations directed at an array of stakeholders, for promoting the wide-scale adoption of effective programs and services for parents and on areas that warrant further research to inform policy and practice. It is meant to serve as a roadmap for the future of parenting policy, research, and practice in the United States.

Book excerpt: Important relationships in personal and professional spaces should be nurturing and loving. Who is policing verbal abuse and mental torture against a spouse, a child, a sibling or a co- worker in the workspace within four walls creating a toxic environment? This kind of toxic behaviour is shoved under the carpet in the name of marital problems, discipline, strict parenting methods, sibling rivalry or office politics. It is not a serious crime that can be reported. Now you breathe is dedicated to all those broken souls who cry themselves to sleep, the ones who wear their heart out in their sleeves, make themselves vulnerable in love, compassion and caring for their loved ones, yet lie awake at night in bewilderment wondering what did they do any less for their loved ones. What would it take for them to be good enough for the ones they seek validation from? Author Rakhi Kapoor highlights the difference between the red flags in a relationship that crops up due to conflicting mindsets or value systems from those occurring when dealing with narcissists and people with personality disorders. In such relationships, the long- standing toxicity transcends to abuse, damaging an individual’s self-esteem and mental health. If you are someone who is dealing with constant mental, verbal, emotional and physical abuse, this book will help you get aware of your situation, help yourself and seek professional help. Don’t grope in the dark all by yourself. You are not alone.

Chapter authors discuss advances in areas such as fertility treatment and contraception, and present current thinking on the psychological impact of pregnancy loss, menopause, cancer, and other stressors. These expert contributors emphasize the connections between an individual's biology and psychology and cultural expectations in shaping women's mental health, and the balance between a client's unique history and current clinical knowledge clinicians need to address disorders. Included in the coverage: The experience of puberty and emotional wellbeing. Body image issues and eating disorders in the childbearing years. Risk assessment and screening during pregnancy. Normal and pathological postpartum anxiety. Mood disorders and the transition to menopause. The evolution of reproductive psychiatry. Book Motherhood Mental Illness and Recovery

Download or read book Motherhood Mental Illness and Recovery written by Nikole Benders-Hadi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-08-18 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the importance of regaining social roles during recovery from mental illness, the intersection between motherhood and serious mental illness is often overlooked. This book aims to rectify that neglect. A series of introductory chapters describing current research and services available to mothers with serious mental illness are followed by personal accounts of clients reflecting on their parenting experiences. One goal of the book is to provide clinicians with information that they can use to help patients struggling with questions and barriers in their attempts to parent. The inclusion of personal accounts of mothers on issues such as stigma, fears and discrimination in the context of parenting with a mental illness is intended to promote the message of mental illness recovery to a larger audience as well. Finally, it is hoped that this handbook will help inspire more research on mothers with mental illness and the creation of more services tailored to their needs.

Book Guilt free Bottle Feeding

Download or read book Guilt free Bottle Feeding written by Madeleine Morris and published by White Ladder. This book was released on 2014-09-15 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You are not a bad mother if you can’t breastfeed. For decades mums have been told that ‘breast is best’, that breastfeeding is the single-most important thing we can do for our children. Despite this huge pressure on modern mums, the vast majority of us end up using formula. And we feel guilty. In Guilt-Free Bottle Feeding award-winning journalist Madeleine Morris and paediatrician Dr Sasha Howard challenge the simplistic message of ‘breast is best’, revealing what everybody knows, but nobody says out loud – that bottle fed babies can grow up to be perfectly happy, healthy and smart. With a thorough yet accessible analysis of health science, parenting sociology and the modern media, the authors provide a balanced, much-needed and long-overdue voice, showing mothers who don’t exclusively breastfeed why they are not failures. A mix of political and practical, Guilt-Free Bottle-Feeding also offers comprehensive advice on feeding, including: Choosing a formula, and choosing a bottle Sterilising and preparing a feed How to promote bonding while bottle-feeding Moving from breast to bottle, and mixed feeding In an era where the pressure on mums is greater than ever before, Guilt-Free Bottle Feeding resets the conversation around infant feeding, supporting all families regardless of how they feed their babies. This is not an anti-breastfeeding book. This is an anti-guilt book. span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;" www.guiltfreebottlefeeding.com
