Mia, age 6, BBC Learning is Fun "It's easy to see why Horrid Henry is the bestselling character for 5-8 year olds." Liverpool Echo Because it's funny "My two boys love this book and I have actually had tears running down my face and had to stop reading because of laughing so hard. My oldest son is rereading all the books in this series on his own now and he still loves them. Happy reading!" T. Franklin, Parent "A modern comic classic." SF Said, Guardian Children's Books Supplement Kids get to be harmlessly rebellious "Henry is a beguiling hero who has entranced millions of reluctant readers... little rebels will love this collection and even little angels will be secretly thrilled by Henry's anti-heroic behaviour." Herald Henry's naughtiness is a yardstick against which children can get a sense of their own moral goodness and social justice "What is brilliant about the books is that Henry never does anything that is subversive. She creates an aura of supreme naughtiness (of which children are in awe) but points out that he operates within a safe and secure world." Emily Turner, Angels And Urchins Magazine Reaches the most important age group - children who are learning to read "I have tried out the Horrid Henry books with groups of children as a parent, as a babysitter, and as a teacher. Children love to either hear them read aloud or to read them themselves. The books are spot on for the 5-8 age range and are fun for the adults who share them too." Danielle Hall, Teacher The structure provides new readers with a real sense of accomplishment "My son is 7 years old and a big Horrid Henry fan. This book lived up to his expectations! Horrid Henry is like most boys: he always has a plan and is always getting into mischief! It was amusing, and he could not put it down. Can't wait for the next. He read it cover to cover by himself in 2 days! That for me sells a book! He can't wait for the next one to be published. He has recommended it to all his friends." Mrs. Tami Gold, Parent Reaches both boys and girls equally "Wonderfully appealing to girls and boys alike, a precious rarity at this age." Judith Woods, Times Books A global publishing phenomenon with 12 million copies sold!

Book The City After Abandonment

Download or read book The City After Abandonment written by Margaret Dewar and published by University of Pennsylvania Press. This book was released on 2012-10-15 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A number of U.S. cities, former manufacturing centers of the Northeast and Midwest, have suffered such dramatic losses in population and employment that urban experts have put them in a class by themselves, calling them "rustbelt cities," "shrinking cities," and more recently "legacy cities." This decline has led to property disinvestment, extensive demolition, and abandonment. While much policy and planning have focused on growth and redevelopment, little research has investigated the conditions of disinvested places and why some improvement efforts have greater impact than others. The City After Abandonment brings together essays from top urban planning experts to focus on policy and planning issues related to three questions. What are cities becoming after abandonment? The rise of community gardens and artists' installations in Detroit and St. Louis reveal numerous unexamined impacts of population decline on the development of these cities. Why these outcomes? By analyzing post-hurricane policy in New Orleans, the acceptance of becoming a smaller city in Youngstown, Ohio, and targeted assistance to small areas of Baltimore, Cleveland, and Detroit, this book assesses how varied institutions and policies affect the process of change in cities where demand for property is very weak. What should abandoned areas of cities become? Assuming growth is not a choice, this book assesses widely cited formulas for addressing vacancy; analyzes the sustainability plans of Cleveland, Buffalo, Philadelphia, and Baltimore; suggests an urban design scheme for shrinking cities; and lays out ways policymakers and planners can approach the future through processes and ideas that differ from those in growing cities.

Class 3T is studying the environment, and Judy is amazed to learn about the destruction of the rain forest, the endangered species (not) in her own backyard, and her own family’s crummy recycling habits. Book excerpt: A free luxury wedding gives two strangers a second chance at love in this charming contemporary romance novel in the Charton Minster series. Cat Aston thought she hit the jackpot when she won a fairytale wedding in a luxury hotel. But now that her finance has run out on her, her dreams of wedded bliss have turned into a nightmare. But still, no woman in her right mind would turn down a free wedding of a lifetime. Now she just needs to find a groom . . . Adam Lawley was left devastated when his girlfriend turned down his heartfelt proposal and he’s vowed to never love again. But something keeps pulling him toward Cat. They’ve both been burned by love—so why can’t they stop thinking about each other? It might be too good to be true, or it just might be their second chance for true love—complete with a happily ever after. “In this wildly passionate, touching and sometimes funny story, James portrays two brokenhearted souls who connect and magically find a way to love again. Most of the book has an offbeat, almost fairy-tale feel, but it’s uplifting and satisfying. James spins her story with hope in mind, and her characters help us believe in castles in the air without equivocation.” —RT Book Reviews
