Book CRC Handbook of Animal Models of Pulmonary Disease

Download or read book CRC Handbook of Animal Models of Pulmonary Disease written by Jerome Owen Cantor and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This two-volume handbook provides important information concerning the development, implementation, evaluation, uses, advantages, and limitations of a wide variety of animal model of pulmonary disease. While the work focuses on stepwise procedures for inducing and quantifying disease, additional emphasis is placed on each model's relationship to human counterparts and on comparisons with similar models of injury. Thus, even the novice researcher will be able to more sharply define a particular research question, find suitable animal models for study, gain access to specialized techniques, and evaluate results within the context of an up-to-date body of information about related forms of lung diseases.

Book Biological Reactive Intermediates IV

Download or read book Biological Reactive Intermediates IV written by Charlotte M. Witmer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 848 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The finding that chemicals can be metabolically activated to yield reactive chemical species capable of covalently binding to cellular macromolecules and the concept that these reactions could initiate toxicological and carcinogenic events stimulated a meeting by a small group of toxicologists at the University of Turku, in Finland, in 1975 (Jollow et al. , 1977). The growing interest in this field of research led to subsequent symposia at the University of Surrey, in England in 1980 (Snyder et al. , 1982), and the University of Maryland in the U. S. A. in 1985 (Kocsis et al. , 1986). The Fourth International Symposium on Biological Reactive Intermediates was hosted by the Center for Toxicology at the University of Arizona and convened in Tucson, Arizona, January 14-17, 1990. Over 300 people attended. There were 60 platform presentations by invited speakers, and 96 volunteer communications in the form of posters were offered. These meetings have grown from a small group of scientists working in closely related areas to a major international series of symposia which convene every five years to review, and place in context, the latest advances in our understanding of the formation, fate and consequences of biological reactive intermediates. The Organizing Committee: Allan H. Conney, Robert Snyder (Co-chairman), and Charlotte M. Witmer (Rutgers University, Piscataway, NJ), David J. Jollow Co chairman) (Medical University, South Carolina, Charleston, SC), 1. Glenn Sipes (Co chairman) (University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ), James J. Kocsis and George F.

Book Pulmonary Hypertension

    Book Details:
  • Author : Bradley A. Maron
  • Publisher : Springer
  • Release : 2015-11-02
  • ISBN : 331923594X
  • Pages : 371 pages

Download or read book Pulmonary Hypertension written by Bradley A. Maron and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-11-02 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the framework for a singular reference in the field of pulmonary hypertension. Pulmonary vascular disease is a complex and heterogeneous condition characterized by remodeling of distal pulmonary arterioles that increases pulmonary vascular resistance to affect cardiopulmonary hemodynamic and right ventricular function adversely, resulting in a clinical syndrome of diminished exercise tolerance, shortness of breath, and heart failure-associated morbidity and mortality. Owing to the availability of novel pulmonary circulation-selective pharmacotherapies over the previous decade, the number of pulmonary hypertension patients eligible for treatment has increased substantially. Despite this progress, under-awareness persists within the practicing pulmonary, cardiovascular, and general internal medicine communities. This is due, in part, to the complex array of molecular mechanisms implicated in the pathobiology of PH, as well as cutting-edge discoveries from translational scientific works that provide a new framework by which to understand pulmonary vascular-right ventricular coupling. Taken together, a key educational opportunity is exposed to bridge this knowledge gap through the synthesis of a contemporary text that emphasizes basic science, translational and clinical principles, and treatment strategies for understanding pulmonary hypertension.
