Book Multi Criteria Multi Period Supplier Selection and Order Allocation Models

Download or read book Multi Criteria Multi Period Supplier Selection and Order Allocation Models written by Ziqi Ding and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis considers the use of multi-criteria optimization methods applied to supplier selection and order allocation problem over a planning horizon under multiple sourcing strategy. The supply chain system is modeled with a single buyer and multiple suppliers with deterministic demands as a mixed integer programming problem. We study the supplier selection and order allocation problem with three objectives. The criteria considered are (1) total cost over the planning horizon; (2) weighted average lead time and (3) weighted average quality defect rate. We first develop the mathematical formulation for all three objectives and then present a general multi-period and multi-criteria optimization model for the procurement problem. Two methods are used to solve the multi-criteria mathematical programming problem. The first approach is the Weighted Objective method. It is used to generate several efficient solutions by changing the weights assigned to the three criteria. The second approach is the Goal Programming method, which is used to generate the optimal solutions that can satisfy the specified targets set for the three criteria according to the decision maker's preference. Several efficient points are generated by both Preemptive and Non-Preemptive Goal Programming methods. A numerical example is presented to illustrate both approaches. There are fourteen efficient solutions generated from both approaches. We compare the efficient solutions visually using the Value Path Approach. A sensitivity analysis is done to study the impact of changing the weight of the non-value added cost in the total cost objective.

Abstract: Supplier selection is an important problem in supply chain management (SCM), and has attracted the attention of many researchers. Most previous research on supplier selection is based on the assumption that a single product is required. For the few supplier selection models for multiple products, they handled the problem on a product-by-product manner. In such cases, the synergy effect between products which could impact the choice of cooperative suppliers is not taken into account. However, it is practical for the purchasing company to procure multiple products simultaneously and benefit from the synergy effect between products. It is necessary to incorporate the synergy effect between products in multi-product supplier selection. This thesis presents a multi-product supplier selection model incorporating the synergy effect between products. The model is composed of three sub-models, i.e., the synergy determination sub-model, the supplier pre-selection sub-model and the negotiation-based final selection sub- model. As the agent-based technology is a natural tool for modeling distributed systems, the proposed multi-product supplier selection model is realized as a multi-agent system (MAS) with agents representing the relevant parties and functions of the proposed model. Agents of the MAS are able to interact with each other through the respective agent interaction protocols defined specifically for the three sub-models. The synergy determination sub-model is to determine the synergy effect between products. The term complementarity is used to represent the synergy effect between products. The product complementarity measure criteria are formulated based on the activities of automobile manufacturers. Complementarity measure methods are then proposed. The product bundle determination algorithm is presented to generate preferred product bundles. The interaction of agents involving in the sub-model is governed by the synergy determination protocol. The supplier pre-selection sub-model is to shortlist the qualified and competitive suppliers for multiple products. The pre-selection criteria catering for the multi-product environment are formulated. Both the general characteristics and performances of suppliers, and the capabilities supporting multi-product transactions are included in the pre-selection criteria. The TOPSIS-based supplier pre-selection algorithm is established to evaluate suppliers on these criteria. The interaction of agents involving in the sub-model is governed by the pre-selection protocol. The negotiation-based final selection sub-model is to select the cooperative suppliers for multiple products. In order to cater for the multi-product environment, multiple bids are allowed in the negotiation model. The corresponding bid utility function and negotiation strategies are presented. The B&B-based winner determination algorithm is presented to determine the cooperative suppliers. The hybrid protocol of combinatorial procurement auction and multi-bilateral bargaining is established to govern the interaction of agents in the sub-model. A case study has been executed to demonstrate the feasibility, effectiveness and usefulness of the supplier selection model for multiple products with synergy effect. The results indicate that the proposed supplier selection model is able to select suppliers for multiple products simultaneously and incorporate the synergy effec

Book A Multi period Multi criteria Supplier Selection and Order Allocation Model Under Demand Uncertainty

Download or read book A Multi period Multi criteria Supplier Selection and Order Allocation Model Under Demand Uncertainty written by Yishan Sun and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this thesis, a multi-period multiple sourcing supplier selection and order allocation model under demand uncertainty condition with shortages is built. The objective is to determine which suppliers should be selected and the order quantities of each product for each period. The problem has three objectives: minimizing the total cost over the planning horizon, minimizing the weighted average lead time over the planning horizon and minimizing the weighted average quality defect rate over the planning horizon. First, a mathematical formulation for all the three objectives is developed and then a general multi-period and multi-criteria optimization model is presented. There are two key decisions to make: 1) to choose the most favorable suppliers from a given set of suppliers to meet supplier selection criteria for various items in each period; 2) to order optimal quantities in each period for each poduct from the selected suppliers to meet the production demand. Weighted Objective method is used to generate the efficient solution by assigning weights to the three criteria. A sensitivity analysis is done to study the impact of changing the input parameters values such as initial inventory levels and maximum and minimum values of demands on the total cost objective and selection of suppliers.

Book Integrated Multi criteria Decision Approach for Supplier Selection and Order Quantity Allocation Based on Differentiated Sourcing Strategies

Download or read book Integrated Multi criteria Decision Approach for Supplier Selection and Order Quantity Allocation Based on Differentiated Sourcing Strategies written by Rajesh S. Hadavale and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Effective supply chain design relies on robust analytical models and decision tools. Many such models and tools have been developed to address the supplier selection and order allocation (SSOA) problem, ranging from simple techniques such as weighted scoring models to more complex models that employ mathematical programming techniques. However, most of the traditional SSOA tools and models have failed to consider: (1) Comprehensive and a standardized set of metrics, to guide the decision making process, ranging from suppliers attributes to strategic advantages, across the entire purchasing items categories, and (2) Linking products sourcing attributes to organizations sourcing strategies and goals priorities, in a common framework. The above two issues are addressed by presenting a structured framework with two separate but dependent phases. The first phase relates product's sourcing characteristics to organizations sourcing strategy and goals, and adopt a common set of metrics (qualitative and quantitative) to evaluate the relative efficiency of the suppliers - defined in terms of how the suppliers strength and its association transforms to organizations strategic benefits and ultimately to customers satisfaction. This evaluation is done using analytic hierarchy process (AHP) models. In the second phase the SSOA decision is made using a preemptive goal programming (PGP) - a multi-criteria decision-making methodology - with AHP ratings as its coefficients. The goal priorities chosen are representative of the sourcing strategy formulated for three categories of purchasing items: Strategic and Bottleneck, Leverage, and Routine. Strategic and Bottleneck purchasing items are difficult to manage while Leverage purchasing items are high value. Routine purchasing items are neither difficult to manage nor have high value. The contribution of this study is threefold: (1) It provides a structured decision making approach in the form of a comprehensive framework comprising of interrelated analytical mathematical models to select suppliers and determine their order size for different category of purchasing items. (2) It provides illustrative numerical examples and demonstrates the applicability, compliance and effectiveness of the developed integrated decision making approach, including models robustness and optimality of the decisions to changing parameters (Budget) and priorities (goals). (3) It contributes to the literature in the area at the intersection of strategic sourcing and SSOA with a comprehensive decision approach, which may be of interest to the corporate world to come to grips with the complexities of strategic sourcing.

Book excerpt: In this thesis, a multi-criteria multi-period supplier selection and order allocation problem is studied. The supply chain system is modeled with a single buyer and multiple suppliers with deterministic demands as a mixed integer programming problem. Five objectives are included in the multi-period and multi-sourcing problem. All-unit quantity discount policy is also incorporated in the model. The five objectives considered are (1) procurement cost; (2) weighted average inventory; (3) weighted average shortage; (4) weighted average lead time (5) weighted average quality defect rate. Model constraints include demand balance constraints, all-unit discount policy constraints and capacity constraints of the suppliers. Weighted objective method and Goal programming methods (both preemptive and non-preemptive) are utilized to solve the multi-criteria mathematical programming problem. Weighted objective method is used to generate several efficient solutions by applying different sets of weights assigned to the five criteria. In both Preemptive goal programming and Non-preemptive goal programming, the specified goals for the five objectives are satisfied according to the decision maker's preference. A numerical example is presented to illustrate the Weighted objective and Goal programming methods. Twelves efficient solutions are analyzed visually through the Value Path Approach. A sensitivity analysis is conducted to study the impact of varying inventory factors and shortage factors on the optimal sourcing decisions.

Book Developing Tailored Supply Strategies

Download or read book Developing Tailored Supply Strategies written by Nancy Y. Moore and published by Rand Corporation. This book was released on 2007 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Purchased goods and services are an increasingly large proportion of public and private enterprise budgets. Historically, purchased goods and services have accounted for less than a third of an enterprise's budget, but today many enterprises spend more than two-thirds of their budgets on purchased goods and services. Similarly, the Air Force and the Department of Defense (DoD) spend nearly half their budgets for purchased goods and services and an additional sixth on weapon procurement (with only a third going to military and civilian personnel costs). (See pp. 1-6.) Because of the growing importance of purchasing, many enterprises have sought to develop supply strategies for their purchased goods and services. This monograph is intended as a resource for procurement personnel developing supply strategies for the Air Force or DoD. It does not analyze current military procurement practices but rather synthesizes academic, business, and professional literature on developing and applying supply strategies. Its core is a synthesis of nearly a dozen different processes found in the literature.

Book Surviving Supply Chain Integration

Download or read book Surviving Supply Chain Integration written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2000-03-23 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The managed flow of goods and information from raw material to final sale also known as a "supply chain" affects everythingâ€"from the U.S. gross domestic product to where you can buy your jeans. The nature of a company's supply chain has a significant effect on its success or failureâ€"as in the success of Dell Computer's make-to-order system and the failure of General Motor's vertical integration during the 1998 United Auto Workers strike. Supply Chain Integration looks at this crucial component of business at a time when product design, manufacture, and delivery are changing radically and globally. This book explores the benefits of continuously improving the relationship between the firm, its suppliers, and its customers to ensure the highest added value. This book identifies the state-of-the-art developments that contribute to the success of vertical tiers of suppliers and relates these developments to the capabilities that small and medium-sized manufacturers must have to be viable participants in this system. Strategies for attaining these capabilities through manufacturing extension centers and other technical assistance providers at the national, state, and local level are suggested. This book identifies action steps for small and medium-sized manufacturersâ€"the "seed corn" of business start-up and developmentâ€"to improve supply chain management. The book examines supply chain models from consultant firms, universities, manufacturers, and associations. Topics include the roles of suppliers and other supply chain participants, the rise of outsourcing, the importance of information management, the natural tension between buyer and seller, sources of assistance to small and medium-sized firms, and a host of other issues. Supply Chain Integration will be of interest to industry policymakers, economists, researchers, business leaders, and forward-thinking executives.

Book Ensuring Quality to Gain Access to Global Markets

Download or read book Ensuring Quality to Gain Access to Global Markets written by Martin Kellermann and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2019-04-09 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a modern world with rapidly growing international trade, countries compete less based on the availability of natural resources, geographical advantages, and lower labor costs and more on factors related to firms' ability to enter and compete in new markets. One such factor is the ability to demonstrate the quality and safety of goods and services expected by consumers and confirm compliance with international standards. To assure such compliance, a sound quality infrastructure (QI) ecosystem is essential. Jointly developed by the World Bank Group and the National Metrology Institute of Germany, this guide is designed to help development partners and governments analyze a country's quality infrastructure ecosystems and provide recommendations to design and implement reforms and enhance the capacity of their QI institutions.
