Book Reconnaissance de L criture Manuscrite Multi Scripts

Download or read book Reconnaissance de L criture Manuscrite Multi Scripts written by Yousri Kessentini and published by Omniscriptum. This book was released on 2010-08 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

This book was released on 2009 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This PhD thesis is meant to be applied to multi-script handwritten word recognition. The proposed system is script independent. It proceeds without explicit segmentation of handwritting into graphemes and makes use of low level feature sets irrespective of the scripts. Features are then combined according to the multi-stream paradigm. Other track has been explored in this PhD thesis exploiting the Dempster-Shafer theory to propose a new combination rules in the multi-stream HMM. The developed system has been tested on two publicy available databases : the benchmark database IFN/ENIT (for arabic script) , IRONOFF and RIMES databases (for latin script). For both scripts, the result shows significant improvement while using a multi-stream approach.

Book Life Insurance Mathematics

Download or read book Life Insurance Mathematics written by Hans U. Gerber and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: HaIley's Comet has been prominently displayed in many newspapers during the last few months. For the first time in 76 years it appeared this winter, clearly visible against the nocturnal sky. This is an appropriate occasion to point out the fact that Sir Edmund Halley also constructed the world's first life table in 1693, thus creating the scientific foundation of life insurance. Halley's life table and its successors were viewed as deterministic laws, i. e. the number of deaths in any given group and year was considered to be a weIl defined number that could be calculated by means of a life table. However, in reality this number is random. Thus any mathematical treatment of life insurance will have to rely more and more on prob ability theory. By sponsoring this monograph the Swiss Association of Actuaries wishes to support the "modern" probabilistic view oflife contingencies. We are fortu nate that Professor Gerber, an internationally renowned expert, has assumed the task of writing the monograph. We thank the Springer-Verlag and hope that this monograph will be the first in a successful series of actuarial texts. Hans Bühlmann Zürich, March 1986 President Swiss Association of Actuaries Preface Two major developments have influenced the environment of actuarial math ematics. One is the arrival of powerful and affordable computers; the once important problem of numerical calculation has become almost trivial in many instances.

Book Audio Source Separation and Speech Enhancement

Download or read book Audio Source Separation and Speech Enhancement written by Emmanuel Vincent and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2018-10-22 with total page 517 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Learn the technology behind hearing aids, Siri, and Echo Audio source separation and speech enhancement aim to extract one or more source signals of interest from an audio recording involving several sound sources. These technologies are among the most studied in audio signal processing today and bear a critical role in the success of hearing aids, hands-free phones, voice command and other noise-robust audio analysis systems, and music post-production software. Research on this topic has followed three convergent paths, starting with sensor array processing, computational auditory scene analysis, and machine learning based approaches such as independent component analysis, respectively. This book is the first one to provide a comprehensive overview by presenting the common foundations and the differences between these techniques in a unified setting. Key features: Consolidated perspective on audio source separation and speech enhancement. Both historical perspective and latest advances in the field, e.g. deep neural networks. Diverse disciplines: array processing, machine learning, and statistical signal processing. Covers the most important techniques for both single-channel and multichannel processing. This book provides both introductory and advanced material suitable for people with basic knowledge of signal processing and machine learning. Thanks to its comprehensiveness, it will help students select a promising research track, researchers leverage the acquired cross-domain knowledge to design improved techniques, and engineers and developers choose the right technology for their target application scenario. It will also be useful for practitioners from other fields (e.g., acoustics, multimedia, phonetics, and musicology) willing to exploit audio source separation or speech enhancement as pre-processing tools for their own needs.

Book excerpt: This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the 9th International Workshop on Graphics Recognition (GREC 2011), held in Seoul, Korea, September 15-16, 2011. The 25 revised full papers presented were carefully selected from numerous submissions. Graphics recognition is a subfield of document image analysis that deals with graphical entities in engineering drawings, sketches, maps, architectural plans, musical scores, mathematical notation, tables, and diagrams. Accordingly the conference papers are organized in 5 technical sessions, covering the topics such as map and ancient documents, symbol and logo recognition, sketch and drawings, performance evaluation and challenge processing.
