Book Handbook of Climate Change Mitigation

Download or read book Handbook of Climate Change Mitigation written by Wei-Yin Chen and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-02-13 with total page 2130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a mounting consensus that human behavior is changing the global climate and its consequence could be catastrophic. Reducing the 24 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions from stationary and mobile sources is a gigantic task involving both technological challenges and monumental financial and societal costs. The pursuit of sustainable energy resources, environment, and economy has become a complex issue of global scale that affects the daily life of every citizen of the world. The present mitigation activities range from energy conservation, carbon-neutral energy conversions, carbon advanced combustion process that produce no greenhouse gases and that enable carbon capture and sequestion, to other advanced technologies. From its causes and impacts to its solutions, the issues surrounding climate change involve multidisciplinary science and technology. This handbook will provide a single source of this information. The book will be divided into the following sections: Scientific Evidence of Climate Change and Societal Issues, Impacts of Climate Change, Energy Conservation, Alternative Energies, Advanced Combustion, Advanced Technologies, and Education and Outreach.

Book The Fundamental Role of Nano Scale Oxide Films in the Oxidation of Hydrogen and the Reduction of Oxygen on Noble Metal Electrocatalysts

Download or read book The Fundamental Role of Nano Scale Oxide Films in the Oxidation of Hydrogen and the Reduction of Oxygen on Noble Metal Electrocatalysts written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The derivation of successful fuel cell technologies requires the development of more effective, cheaper, and poison-resistant electrocatalysts for both the anode (H2 oxidation in the presence of small amounts of CO from the reforming of carbonaceous fuels) and the cathode (reduction of oxygen in the presence of carried-over fuel). The proposed work is tightly focused on one specific aspect of electrocatalysis; the fundamental role(s) played by nanoscale (1-2 nm thick) oxide (''passive'') films that form on the electrocatalyst surfaces above substrate-dependent, critical potentials, on charge transfer reactions, particularly at elevated temperatures (25 C

Book Oxidation Catalysis in Environmental Applications

Download or read book Oxidation Catalysis in Environmental Applications written by Matthew Maurice Yung and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: The environmental applications of oxidation catalysis were examined as part of a two-stage strategy for the reduction of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and also for the removal of carbon monoxide from hydrogen streams. Cobalt-based catalysts were examined. Reduction of NOx, Co/TiO2 and Co/ZrO2 were studied for the oxidation of NO to NO2 in excess oxygen. NO oxidation was studied as the first step in a two-step catalytic scheme where NO is oxidized to NO2 and, in turn, NO2 is reduced with CH4 to N2 under lean conditions. Catalysts were prepared by sol-gel and incipient-wetness impregnation techniques. It was found that increasing the calcination temperature had an adverse effect on the activity of the IWI catalysts. Catalyst characterization showed higher activity for NO oxidation on Co/ZrO2 than on Co/TiO2 which was observed to correlate with the formation of the Co3O4 phase. For the preferential oxidation of CO, cobalt on several metal oxide supports were investigated and showed the highest activity on Co/ZrO2. A variety of reaction experiments were performed to examine the effects of reactant concentrations, residence time, and temperature on the CO conversion and O2 selectivity to CO2.

Book Advances and Technology Development in Greenhouse Gases Emission Capture and Conversion

Download or read book Advances and Technology Development in Greenhouse Gases Emission Capture and Conversion written by Mohammad Reza Rahimpour and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2024-07-19 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances and Technology Development in Greenhouse Gases: Emission, Capture and Conversion is a comprehensive seven-volume set of books that discusses the composition and properties of greenhouse gases, and introduces different sources of greenhouse gases emission and the relation between greenhouse gases and global warming. The comprehensive and detailed presentation of common technologies as well as novel research related to all aspects of greenhouse gases makes this work an indispensable encyclopedic resource for researchers in academia and industry.Volume 6 titled Methane, Nitrox Oxide, and Ozone Conversion and Applications studies the applications of any greenhouse gases (GHGs) other than carbon dioxide. This book reviews the applications of methane, nitrox oxide, and ozone. It investigates any valuable product fabricated with the inclusion of methane, nitrox oxide, and ozone. The book also reviews recent advances, the largest operating plants and pilots for methane conversion, the economic assessments and cost analysis, and environmental impacts and challenges that are faced when developing these processes Introduces applications and chemicals produced from methane Describes nitrous oxide conversion and applications Discusses about various applications of ozone
