Of gold is a rich gold ore, worth $330 a metric ton; in fact, as' little as per cent. Of gold, equivalent to 1 gram to the metric ton, or a value Of 66 cents a ton, if occurring in an ore with other useful substances, is ordinarily paid for by smelting works. This book was released on 2018-02-27 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mineral Deposits of New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania The Lehigh Valley is the largest producer of slate and cement in the country, and the conditions represented at the different quarries and the methods used in handling these substances are representative of the best American practice. One of the anthracite basins will be touched at Lansford, Pennsylvania. Opportunity will be given to see the complicated structural features of a mine where stripping has been practised on a large scale and where the famous Mammoth coal seam is exposed. Opportunity also will be given to observe the methods of underground working. The iron deposit at Cornwall is an especially fine exhibit of a replacement body of magnetite, clearly associated with igneous intrusion and related activity. The open-pit method of working has exposed the major structure, and virtually the whole range of mineral and rock product can be seen in the open. Opportunity will be given at all these places to gather samples of typical material. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Geology of Colorado Ore Deposits Classic Reprint

Download or read book Geology of Colorado Ore Deposits Classic Reprint written by Arthur Lakes and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-12 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Geology of Colorado Ore Deposits This treatise contains the substance of a series of elementary lectures delivered by the author to the students of the Colorado State School of Mines. It is published with a view of meeting some of the needs of the general public, of the ordinary miner, and of the unscientific many, rather than with any idea of offer ing original matter for the discussion of the scientific few. The materials are derived partly from the writer's own researches, and largely from the most reliable resources available to him, such as the standard text-books and the valuable published reports of the United States Geological Survey. The writer having for a time been connected with that survey, knows full well how high a value is to be attached to those reports, which must remain for all time as a standard of reference for those interested in the geological relations of the mines of Colorado. The first part of the work contains a rough sketch of general Geology, for the benefit of those who are not familiar with the terms used in this science. The sketch is further applied to the local geology of Colorado. The second part refers to the phe domena of veins and ores, and their surroundings, as illustrated by Colorado. Brough, Associate of the Royal School of Mines, and formerly student at the Mining School of Clausthal. For a period extending over several months, Mr. Brough was occupied in collecting statistical and other information from various foreign sources, and I am further indebted to him for numerous useful suggestions with regard to the arrangement of the matter, and for the careful attention which he has bestowed upon the work while passing through the press. The greatest care has been taken to insure accuracy throughout the work, and the author hopes that but few. Book The Enrichment of Ore Deposits Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Enrichment of Ore Deposits Classic Reprint written by William Harvey Emmons and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-11 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Enrichment of Ore Deposits The problems of superficial alteration and enrichment are not simple. Not only do the several metals segregate in different ways, but each metal may behave differently in different mineral associa tions. Every district and every deposit should be studied separately in the light of all available chemical and geologic data. There are, however, certain laws Of segregation that almost invariably are clearly indicated, and as data have accumulated many puzzling ap parent exceptions to these laws have disappeared. This paper is an amplification of, an earlier Survey bulletin on the enrichment of sulphide ores (bulletin It is a discussion of representative deposits, especially Of the paragenesis of their ores and of the principles that underlie the processes of enrichment. I hope it may suggest to those engaged in geologic work and in mining some lines Of approach to the solution of the complex problems that are encountered in the field. I realize fully that there may be serious omissions and possibly errors in the discussion of the complex problems here presented. I shall esteem it a favor if anyone whose statements I may have mis quoted or misinterpreted will set me right, and if those who have had superior opportunities for study Of certain districts will correct any wrong impressions that I may have given.
