Download or read book Using Technology with Classroom Instruction That Works written by Howard Pitler and published by ASCD. This book was released on 2012-08-02 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Technology is ubiquitous, and its potential to transform learning is immense. The first edition of Using Technology with Classroom Instruction That Works answered some vital questions about 21st century teaching and learning: What are the best ways to incorporate technology into the curriculum? What kinds of technology will best support particular learning tasks and objectives? How does a teacher ensure that technology use will enhance instruction rather than distract from it? This revised and updated second edition of that best-selling book provides fresh answers to these critical questions, taking into account the enormous technological advances that have occurred since the first edition was published, including the proliferation of social networks, mobile devices, and web-based multimedia tools. It also builds on the up-to-date research and instructional planning framework featured in the new edition of Classroom Instruction That Works, outlining the most appropriate technology applications and resources for all nine categories of effective instructional strategies: * Setting objectives and providing feedback * Reinforcing effort and providing recognition * Cooperative learning * Cues, questions, and advance organizers * Nonlinguistic representations * Summarizing and note taking * Assigning homework and providing practice * Identifying similarities and differences * Generating and testing hypotheses Each strategy-focused chapter features examples—across grade levels and subject areas, and drawn from real-life lesson plans and projects—of teachers integrating relevant technology in the classroom in ways that are engaging and inspiring to students. The authors also recommend dozens of word processing applications, spreadsheet generators, educational games, data collection tools, and online resources that can help make lessons more fun, more challenging, and—most of all—more effective.
Download or read book CHEMISTRY EXPERIMENTS written by James Signorelli and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2014-09-19 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gifted and talented students and any student interested in pursuing a science major in college needs a rigorous program to prepare them while they are still in high school. This book utilizes a format where the application of several disciplines-science, math, and language arts principles-are mandated. Each lab concludes with either an essay or a detailed analysis of what happened and why it happened. This format is based on the expectations of joining a university program or becoming an industrial science professional. The ideal student lab report would be written in a lab research notebook, and then the essay or final analysis is done on a word processor to allow for repeat editing and corrections. The research notebook has all graph pages, a title section, and a place for the students and their assistants to sign and witness that exercise. The basic mechanics of the lab report-title, purpose, procedure, diagrams, data table, math and calculations, observations, and graphs-are handwritten into the book. The conclusion is done on a word processor (MS Word), which allows the instructor to guide the student in writing and editing a complete essay using the MLA format. When the final copy is completed, the essay is printed and inserted into the lab notebook for grading. At the end of the term, the student has all their labs in one place for future reference. These lab notebooks can be obtained for as little as $ 3.00 per book. This is money well-spent. In our district, the Board of Education buys the books for each student. The BOE sees these books as expendable but necessary materials for all science and engineering instruction.

Book excerpt: John Haysom and Michael Bowen provide middle and high school science teachers with more than 100 student activities to help the students develop their understanding of scientific concepts. The powerful Predict, Observe, Explain (POE) strategy, field-tested by hundreds of teachers, is designed to foster student inquiry and challenge existing conceptions that students bring to the classroom.
Download or read book From Story to Judgment written by Jonathan Bassett and published by John Catt Educational. This book was released on 2021-09-07 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Four Question Method (4QM) identifies the questions that drive the thinking that real people do when they take the human world seriously. The authors, Jonathan Bassett and Gary Shiffman, have figured out how to describe and teach what it takes to answer those questions well. This inquiry method gives educators a way to integrate content 'coverage' - through storytelling! - with practice in thinking skills that are central to history and its affiliated academic disciplines, together called social studies. The Four Question Method helps teachers to plan more effectively and students to learn more effectively. It provides guidance for writing research essays. And it transfers - the skills our students practice will work for them when they encounter and make their own history.

Download or read book How to Build a Better Mousetrap and 13 Other Science Projects Using the Apple II written by David L. Vernier and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Science projects which can be used by high school students who have minimal experience with computers or electronics are presented in this book on laboratory interfacing. These laboratory interfacing projects include either the connecting of measuring instruments directly to a computer or using a computer to control external devices. All of the 14 projects of this book involve construction of electric circuits that connect to the Apple II plus or IIe game port. In each case, a core project is discussed and step-by-step instructions are given for its assembly and testing. Descriptions of each project include: (1) project requirements (containing electronics and programming information, lists of parts, supplies, and tools); (2) background information (examining the scientific basis of the project); (3) step-by-step instructions (specifying the methodology in building and using the project); (4) troubleshooting (offering corrective suggestions); (5) project extensions (recommending additional experiments); and (6) supplemental information (consisting of science and mathematics information and data on electronic components). A disk with sample programs is available. (ML)
