Book Rare Earth Elements in Ultramafic and Mafic Rocks and their Minerals

Download or read book Rare Earth Elements in Ultramafic and Mafic Rocks and their Minerals written by Felix P. Lesnov and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2012-03-22 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents an extensive overview of literature published globally in the last decades on REE distribution in minor and accessory minerals from various types of ultramafic, mafic, and other plutonic rocks. It is a continuation of the author’s work published in 2010: Rare Earth Elements in Ultramafic and Mafic Rocks and their Minerals. Main Types of Rocks. Rock-Forming Minerals. The analytical database created includes over 900 analyses of minerals, including garnets (341), chrome-spinels (38), ilmenites (160), zircons (210), apatites (62), titanites (51), perovskites (46) and micas (35). The book offers a brief historical background on REE distribution for each of the minerals and analytical methods for their determination; further, the main features of concentration of these impurities in the samples of different rocks and their manifestations are described and the regularities of REE distribution between coexisting phases, including parent melts, systematized available estimates of distribution coefficients are considered. REE isomorphism in these minerals is discussed as well as the possibilities of using data on REE distribution as typomorphic signs of determining the crystallization conditions of minerals. The numerous analyses of REE presented in this book can be used as reference data. Finally, there is an additional chapter on a new problem: the study of geochemical relations between REE and platinum group elements. As an overview of modern data on the geochemistry of REE in minor and accessory minerals from rocks of mafic-ultramafic complexes and as a reference book, this work will be of interest to a wide range of specialists studying petrology and geochemistry of products of ultramafic and mafic magmatism, including ore mineralization, as well as for graduate and undergraduate university students in geology departments.

Book Understanding Mineral Deposits

Download or read book Understanding Mineral Deposits written by Kula Misra and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 857 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mineral deposits have supplied useful or valuable material for human consumption long before they became objects of scientific curiosity or commercial exploitation. In fact, the earliest human interest in rocks was probably because of the easily accessible, useful (e. g. , red pigment in the form of earthy hematite) or valuable (e. g. , native gold and gemstones) materials they contained at places. In modem times, the study of mineral deposits has evolved into an applied science employing detailed field observations, sophisticated laboratory techniques for additional information, and computer modeling to build complex hypotheses. Understanding concepts that would someday help geologists to find new mineral deposits or exploit the known ones more efficiently have always been, and will continue to be, at the core of any course on mineral deposits, but it is a fascinating subject in its own right, even for students who do not intend to be professional economic geologists. I believe that a course on mineral deposits should be designed as a "capstone course" that illustrates a comprehensive application of concepts from many other disciplines in geology (mineralogy, stratigraphy and sedimentation, structure and tectonics, petrology, geochemistry, paleontology, geomorphology, etc. ). This book is intended as a text for such an introductory course in economic geology, primarily for senior undergraduate and graduate students in colleges and universities. It should also serve as a useful information resource for professional economic geologists.

Book Intraplate Magmatism and Metallogeny of North Vietnam

Download or read book Intraplate Magmatism and Metallogeny of North Vietnam written by Hoa Trong Tran and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-12-16 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book by Vietnamese and Russian authors is the first of its kind and combines the extensive knowledge on the petrology and metallogeny of the late Paleozoic – early Mesozoic and Cenozoic periods in North Vietnam. The Permian – Triassic and Paleogene volcano-plutonic and plutonic associations are two important geological events in the evolutionary history of Southeast Asia, including the 260 – 250 Ma Emeishan mantle plume and Indian-Eurasia collision at 60 – 55 M. The volume includes 9 chapters, divided into 3 parts. Part 1 introduces the geological structure of North Vietnam; Part 2 covers the Permian – Triassic magma associations and metallogeny; and Part 3 focuses on the Cenozoic magma associations and metallogeny. In each chapter, the geological setting of magmas, classification of different geological structures, and composition characteristics, such as mineralogy, geochemistry, isotope systematics and geochronology are discussed. This book represents an important reference document for international and Vietnamese geologists engaged in the geological history and metallogeny of Vietnam, an important area of the Asian continent. The monograph also has a practical significance in contributing new premises and to assess rare and precious mineral prospects. In addition, it can be regarded as a necessary data base for petrological and metallogenic projects and university courses.
