Book Mechanics for the Upper School

Download or read book Mechanics for the Upper School written by F. W. Merchant and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-20 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mechanics for the Upper School In the present work the subject is approached from the experimental and observational side, and continual reference is made to things used in daily life. Considerable space is devoted to practical applications. Throughout the book there are references to the automobile, the airplane, the base-ball curve and other familiar subjects. Indeed some may be disposed to criticise the amount of attention given to these matters, especially in the chapter on machines. But they are all interesting illustrations of mechanical principles and are of the greatest interest to our young people. For these reasons they are included, certainly not to supply material for written examinations. Our sincere thanks are due to Professors A. L. Clark and J. K. Robertson, of Queen's University, who read most of the manuscript of the book, and offered many excellent suggestions. Valuable assistance was also given by Professor F. B. Kenrick, of the Department of Chemistry, and Professor G. A. Cornish, of the Faculty of Education, University of Toronto, in the preparation of the chapter on Surface Tension. Book Auto Mechanics

Download or read book Auto Mechanics written by Kevin L. Borg and published by JHU Press. This book was released on 2007-06 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history of automobiles is not just the story of invention, manufacturing, and marketing; it is also a story of repair. Auto Mechanics opens the repair shop to historical study—for the first time—by tracing the emergence of a dirty, difficult, and important profession. Kevin L. Borg's study spans a century of automotive technology—from the horseless carriage of the late nineteenth century to the "check engine" light of the late twentieth. Drawing from a diverse body of source material, Borg explores how the mechanic’s occupation formed and evolved within the context of broad American fault lines of class, race, and gender and how vocational education entwined these tensions around the mechanic’s unique expertise. He further shows how aspects of the consumer rights and environmental movements, as well as the design of automotive electronics, reflected and challenged the social identity and expertise of the mechanic. In the history of the American auto mechanic, Borg finds the origins of a persistent anxiety that even today accompanies the prospect of taking one's car in for repair.

Book Science Education Research in Latin America

Download or read book Science Education Research in Latin America written by Charbel Niño El-Hani and published by Cultural and Historical Perspe. This book was released on 2020-01-09 with total page 572 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This volume of the World of Science Education gathers contributions from Latin American science education researchers covering a variety of topics that will be of interest to educators and researchers all around the world. The volume provides an overview of research in Latin America, and most of the chapters report findings from studies seldom available for Anglophone readers. They bring new perspectives, thus, to topics such as science teaching and learning; discourse analysis and argumentation in science education; history, philosophy and sociology of science in science teaching; and science education in non-formal settings. As the Latin American academic communities devoted to science education have been thriving for the last four decades, the volume brings an opportunity for researchers from other regions to get acquainted with the developments of their educational research. This will bring contributions to scholarly production in science education as well as to teacher education and teaching proposals to be implemented in the classroom"--

Book Newtonian Mechanics for Undergraduates

Download or read book Newtonian Mechanics for Undergraduates written by Vijay Tymms and published by World Scientific Publishing Europe Limited. This book was released on 2016 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Newtonian mechanics is a cornerstone topic in physics. Regardless of the path an aspiring physicist takes, an intimate and intuitive understanding of how objects behave within Newton's law of motion is essential.Yet the transition from high school physics to university level physics can be -- and should be -- difficult. The aim of this book is to teach Newtonian mechanics suitable for the first two years of university study. Using carefully chosen and detailed examples to expose areas of frequent misunderstanding, the first two thirds of the book introduces material familiar to high school students from the ground up, with a more mature point of view. The final third of the book contains new material, introducing detailed sections on the rotation of rigid objects and providing an insight into subtleties that can be troubling to the first-time learner. Tabletop physics demonstrations are suggested to assist in understanding the worked examples. As a teacher and lecturer of physics with experience at both high school and university level, Professor Vijay Tymms offers a lucid and sensitive presentation of Newtonian mechanics to help make the step from high school to university as smooth as possible.
