Download or read book Max MSP Jitter for Music written by V. J. Manzo and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016-07-01 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Max/MSP/Jitter for Music, expert author and music technologist V. J. Manzo provides a user-friendly introduction to a powerful programming language that can be used to write custom software for musical interaction. Through clear, step-by-step instructions illustrated with numerous examples of working systems, the book equips readers with everything they need to know in order to design and complete meaningful music projects. The book also discusses ways to interact with software beyond the mouse and keyboard through use of camera tracking, pitch tracking, video game controllers, sensors, mobile devices, and more. The book does not require any prerequisite programming skills, but rather walks readers through a series of small projects through which they will immediately begin to develop software applications for practical musical projects. As the book progresses, and as the individual's knowledge of the language grows, the projects become more sophisticated. This new and expanded second edition brings the book fully up-to-date including additional applications in integrating Max with Ableton Live. It also includes a variety of additional projects as part of the final three project chapters. The book is of special value both to software programmers working in Max/MSP/Jitter and to music educators looking to supplement their lessons with interactive instructional tools, develop adaptive instruments to aid in student composition and performance activities, and create measurement tools with which to conduct music education research.

Download or read book Synthesizers and Subtractive Synthesis 1 written by Jean-Michel Réveillac and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2024-04-02 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Subtractive sound synthesis has been one of the most widely used techniques in electronic music and for many analog synthesizers since the early 1960s. It is based on a simple principle, but its operation remains complex, involving many parameters. It can be enriched by a variety of effects that give the sound its authenticity. It does not just imitate musical instruments, but can also transcribe noises present in natural soundscapes, or generate entirely synthetic sounds. Synthesizers and Subtractive Synthesis 1 presents the theoretical basis of a sound phenomenon, the different types of synthesis, the components that are required and present in synthesizers, the working environment specific to the study of subtractive synthesis, and the hardware and software available. After reading the various chapters of this book, readers will have a clear vision of the tools and actions required to grasp the world of subtractive sound.

Download or read book Ant Colony Optimization and Swarm Intelligence written by Marco Dorigo and published by Springer. This book was released on 2004-11-24 with total page 445 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 1 With its fourth edition, the ANTS series of workshops has changed its name. The original"ANTS-From Ant Colonies to Artificial Ants: International Workshop on Ant Algorithms" has become "ANTS - International Workshop on Ant Colony Optimization and Swarm Intelligence". This change is mainly due to the following reasons. First, the term "ant algorithms" was slower in spreading in the research community than the term "swarm intelligence", while at the same time research inso-called swarm robotics was the subject of increasing activity: it was therefore an obvious choice to substitute the term ant algorithms with the more accepted and used term swarm intelligence. Second, although swarm intelligence research has undoubtedly produced a 2 number of interesting and promising research directions, we think it is fair to say that its most successful strand is the one known as "ant colony optimization". Ant colony optimization, first introduced in the early 1990s as a novel tool for the approximate solution of discrete optimization problems, has recently seen an explosion in the number of its applications, both to academic and real-world problems, and is currently being extended to the realm of continuous optimization (a few papers on this subject being published in these proceedings). It is therefore a reasonable choice to have the term ant colony optimization as part of the workshop name

Download or read book Interactive Technologies and Music Making written by Tracy Redhead and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2024-08-27 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Challenging current music making approaches which have traditionally relied on the repetition of fixed forms when played, this book provides a new framework for musicians, composers, and producers wanting to explore working with music that can be represented by data and transformed by interactive technologies. Beginning with an exploration into how current interactive technologies, including VR and AR, are affecting music, the book goes on to create an accessible compositional model which articulates the emerging field of ‘transmutable music.’ It then shows how to compose and produce transmutable music for platforms like video games, apps and interactive works, employing tutorials which use a range of inputs from sensors, data, and compositional approaches. The book also offers technical exercises on how to transform data into usable forms (including machine learning techniques) for mapping musical parameters, and discussion points to support learning. This book is a valuable resource for industry professionals wanting to gain an insight into cutting edge new practice, as well as for assisting musicians, composers, and producers with professional development. It is also suitable for students and researchers in the fields of music/audio composition and music/audio production, computer game design, and interactive media.
