Book Matrimony in the True Church

Download or read book Matrimony in the True Church written by Kristianna Polder and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-03 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Like many other denominations, seventeenth-century Quakers were keen to ensure that members married within their own religious community. In order to properly understand the ramification of such a policy, this book explores the early Quaker marriage approbation process and discipline as demonstrated through the works and marriage of the movement’s leaders, George Fox and Margaret Fell. The book begins with an introduction that briefly summarises the historical context of the early Quaker movement, the ministry of Fox and Fell, and importance they laid upon the marriage approbation discipline. The remainder of the book is divided into three broad chapters. Chapter one examines the practical aspects of the early Quaker marriage approbation discipline, including a summary of seventeenth-century courtship and marriage practice, and an analysis of early Quaker Meeting Minutes. Chapter two then looks at the theological foundations of the marriage approbation process, and the Quaker emphasis on ’Good Order’ and their desire to return to the primitive Christianity of the apostolic church. Chapter three examines the marriage between Fox and Fell, which they presented as a testimony of the union of Christ and his Church. Their married life is analysed through their correspondence to discover whether or not the marriage did indeed exemplify the spiritual gravity originally bestowed upon it by Fox, Fell and some in the Quaker community. Through this close investigation of Quaker marriage approbation, the book offers fascinating insights into early modern English society, attitudes to gender and the early Quakers’ self-perception of themselves as the one and only True Church.

This book was released on 2020-11-13 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is religion a right given to us by the state? Is it an opium for the masses? Is it private opinion with no role in the public sphere? In It Is Right and Just, bestselling author Scott Hahn and Brandon McGinley challenge our idea of religion and its role in society. Hahn and McGinley argue that to answer questions over religious liberty, justice, and peace, we must first reject the insidious lie perpetuated by secular-liberal culture: that religion is a private matter. Contrary to what political commentators and activists say, religion is not only relevant to justice and law, but is necessary for civilization to thrive. Recover the public nature of true religion, It Is Right and Just argues, and watch as a revolution unfolds. • Pages : 178 pages

Download or read book Christ and the Church written by David Grams and published by . This book was released on 2020-08-21 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you like "Sacred Marriage" by Gary Thomas, or "The Meaning of Marriage" by Timothy keller, then you'll be impacted by this book. What's the purpose of marriage? Can you answer that question confidently and eloquently? Most importantly, do you know what the biblical answer to that question is? Most Christians enter into dating relationships and marriages naively, having no real understanding of why God created marriage in the first place. Why did God create attraction between male and female? Procreation is certainly part of the equation and so is the value of partnership, but neither of those two things satisfy the question of the true purpose of marriage. Because the purpose of intimacy has been misunderstood, its power has been misused. The joining together of man and woman in holy matrimony is an institution with much more sanctity and power that we realize. Marriage has lost its weightiness in our culture, and unfortunately, even in our churches. If marriage in Christianity is ever to become what it was designed to be, a complete understanding of its purpose must be recovered. Through "CHRIST AND THE CHURCH: THE UNTOLD TRUTH ABOUT MARRIAGE," intended for singles and couples of all ages and stages of life, David Grams invites you to join him in the discovery of the true, biblical purpose and power of marriage, promising that such a discovery will transform your heart and revolutionize your relationships. This book is comprised primarily of a series of lies about relationships that have poisoned Christian families all over the world. Countless marriages are suffering the ramifications of fallacious relational ideologies we've learned in church, in school, in counseling sessions -- ideologies we've foolishly accepted as true, while they are in no way supported by the teachings of God's Word. In this book, you'll learn how love, commitment, sex, and attraction have all been distorted by religious and cultural traditions, and how a radical reform of our beliefs about relationships needs to happen before our families will be absolutely healed. In this book, singles and engaged couples will learn to lay a necessary foundation for their future marriage, married couples will learn how to see themselves healed of any form dysfunction and strengthen their relationship through the love of God, and separated couples will learn how to mend wounds and restore love where it seems hopeless. Reviews/Testimonials :"This Christ and the Church book is huge to me. I'm only at Lie #3 and I am seeing my understanding of Father/Son [my relationship with God] take on a new level of understanding. All my questions about both Father/Son and Husband/Wife are being answered complete and full." - Ian, USA ."When you see the wisdom in this book and then remember that it was first written by a young man who wasn't married, it is undeniable that the Holy Spirit truly inspired it. No unmarried/inexperienced person could write the wisdom that's in this book, unless God truly spoke to him." - Marcy, USA.

Book Holy Matrimony

Download or read book Holy Matrimony written by DeBorrah K. Ogans and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2006-06-29 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: century has ushered in some extreme, strange, and disturbing beliefs about marriage. We're living in a day and time where the definition and purpose of marriage is being challenged, and in some areas of our country changed to meet the desires of our society. Laws have been passed in some states that sanction same sex marriage, men marrying men, and women marrying women. Men and women marrying animals may be just around the corner, and if we're not careful, we may see laws on the books that sanction and encourage this as well, particularly if the animal will be entitled to the medical or insurance benefits of its spouse. You may say this will never happen. Well, we're also living in a time where public display of the Ten Commandments is being challenged. It seems our society doesn't want to be faced with or reminded of what God has said and established for us to have an orderly society. It's almost as though what we want is for every man to be able to do what he feels is right in his own heart. We've been there before. Marriage is under attack from the outside as well as the inside. Husbands and wives are trying to manage marriage, while society is trying to re-define and re-shape marriage at the same time. We've been blinded by the enemy, unable to see the spiritual warfare launched on the marriage which is wounding families, businesses, and the church, resulting in serious casualties. However, all is not lost if we look to God's Word, embrace His principles, and apply them to our marriage and daily living. He has already said a number of things pertaining to both. Holy Matrimonywill give you some things to think about, Now that You Are MarriedIt addresses many of the current issues facing married couples today, such as: Who's Idea was marriage? Listening to one another Sex and Intimacy When you've been married before The down side of marriage It also provides understanding "Temperament"

Book Marriage Scripture and the Church

Download or read book Marriage Scripture and the Church written by Darrin W. Snyder Belousek and published by Baker Academic. This book was released on 2021-03-16 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book takes a distinctive approach to the same-sex-union debate by framing the issue as a matter of marriage. Darrin Snyder Belousek demonstrates that the interpretation of Scripture affects whether the church should revise its doctrine of marriage for the sake of sanctioning same-sex union. Engaging charitably yet critically with opposing viewpoints, he delves deeply into what marriage is, what it is for, and what it means as presented in the biblical narrative and the theological tradition, articulating a biblical-traditional theology of marriage for the contemporary church. Afterword by Wesley Hill.

Book Sex and the Marriage Covenant

Download or read book Sex and the Marriage Covenant written by John Kippley and published by Ignatius Press. This book was released on 2014-01-23 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The thesis of this book is that God intends that sexual intercourse should be at least implicitly a renewal of the marriage covenant. From this it follows that the marriage covenant provides the criterion to evaluate the morality of every sexual act. Thus the title, Sex and the Marriage Covenant, is an appropriate description of the bookಙs contents. Marriage comes into being by a couple unreservedly entering God's covenant of marriage; contraceptive intercourse contradicts the very essence of the marriage covenant. From these considerations, Kippley developed the covenant theology of sexuality described in this book.
