Download or read book Mathematics and Computation in Imaging Science and Information Processing written by Say Song Goh and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2007 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The explosion of data arising from rapid advances in communication, sensing and computational power has concentrated research effort on more advanced techniques for the representation, processing, analysis and interpretation of data sets. In view of these exciting developments, the program OC Mathematics and Computation in Imaging Science and Information ProcessingOCO was held at the Institute for Mathematical Sciences, National University of Singapore, from July to December 2003 and in August 2004 to promote and facilitate multidisciplinary research in the area. As part of the program, a series of tutorial lectures were conducted by international experts on a wide variety of topics in mathematical image, signal and information processing. This compiled volume contains survey articles by the tutorial speakers, all specialists in their respective areas. They collectively provide graduate students and researchers new to the field a unique and valuable introduction to a range of important topics at the frontiers of current research. Sample Chapter(s). Foreword (46 KB). Chapter 1: Subdivision on Arbitrary Meshes: Algorithms and Theory (771 KB). Contents: Subdivision on Arbitrary Meshes: Algorithms and Theory (D Zorin); High Order Numerical Methods for Time Dependent Hamilton-Jacobi Equations (C-W Shu); Theory and Computation of Variational Image Deblurring (T F Chan & J Shen); Data Hiding OCo Theory and Algorithms (P Moulin & R Koetter); Image Steganography and Steganalysis: Concepts and Practice (M Kharrazi et al.); The Apriori Algorithm OCo A Tutorial (M Hegland). Readership: Graduate students and researchers in mathematical image, signal and information processing."

Book Quantum Information Processing with Finite Resources

Download or read book Quantum Information Processing with Finite Resources written by Marco Tomamichel and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-10-14 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the reader with the mathematical framework required to fully explore the potential of small quantum information processing devices. As decoherence will continue to limit their size, it is essential to master the conceptual tools which make such investigations possible. A strong emphasis is given to information measures that are essential for the study of devices of finite size, including Rényi entropies and smooth entropies. The presentation is self-contained and includes rigorous and concise proofs of the most important properties of these measures. The first chapters will introduce the formalism of quantum mechanics, with particular emphasis on norms and metrics for quantum states. This is necessary to explore quantum generalizations of Rényi divergence and conditional entropy, information measures that lie at the core of information theory. The smooth entropy framework is discussed next and provides a natural means to lift many arguments from information theory to the quantum setting. Finally selected applications of the theory to statistics and cryptography are discussed. The book is aimed at graduate students in Physics and Information Theory. Mathematical fluency is necessary, but no prior knowledge of quantum theory is required.

Book Theory of Neural Information Processing Systems

Download or read book Theory of Neural Information Processing Systems written by Anthony C. C. Coolen and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2005 with total page 569 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This interdisciplinary graduate text gives a full, explicit, coherent and up-to-date account of the modern theory of neural information processing systems and is aimed at student with an undergraduate degree in any quantitative discipline (e.g. computer science, physics, engineering, biology, or mathematics). The book covers all the major theoretical developments from the 1940s tot he present day, using a uniform and rigorous style of presentation and of mathematical notation. The text starts with simple model neurons and moves gradually to the latest advances in neural processing. An ideal textbook for postgraduate courses in artificial neural networks, the material has been class-tested. It is fully self contained and includes introductions to the various discipline-specific mathematical tools as well as multiple exercises on each topic.

Book Encyclopedia of Human Development

Download or read book Encyclopedia of Human Development written by Neil J. Salkind and published by SAGE Publications. This book was released on 2005-10-14 with total page 1617 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of human development focuses on the growth and development of the human being including physical, social, psychological, and emotional development. Under the broad umbrella of the term human development you find countless topics that range from charting the emotional attachment of an infant to his or her parents and its long-term effects on well-being, media violence and adolescents′ behavior, or factors moderating the natural decline in physical and mental abilities associated with aging. The Encyclopedia of Human Development is the first comprehensive, authoritative, and informative reference work that presents state-of-the-art research and ready-to-use facts from the fields of psychology, individual and family studies, and education in a way that is not too technical. With more than 600 entries, this three-volume Encyclopedia covers topics as diverse as adolescence, cognitive development, education, family, gender differences, identity, longitudinal research, personality development, prenatal development, temperament, and more. Key Features Provides cross-disciplinary coverage, with contributions from experts in the fields of psychology, education, human development and family studies, and gerontology Highlights classic studies and theories and provides brief biographies of notable researchers and theorists Takes a lifespan approach by including several "anchor essays" that cover specific phases of development such as prenatal, infancy, childhood, adolescence, early and middle adulthood, later adulthood and aging Begins with an Introduction that details the scope, rationale, and audience for the work The cross-disciplinary field of human development is one that captures interest among and holds practical relevance for the general public as well as academia, therefore this engaging Encyclopedia will be a welcome addition to any academic or public library.

Book Mathematical Problem Solving

Download or read book Mathematical Problem Solving written by Frank K. Lester and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This set of papers was originally developed for a conference on Issues and Directions in Mathematics Problem Solving Research held at Indiana University in May 1981. The purpose is to contribute to the clear formulation of the key issues in mathematical problem-solving research by presenting the ideas of actively involved researchers. An introduction provides an overview of each paper. The papers focus on the psychology of mathematical problem solving (R. E. Mayer), knowledge organization (E. A. Silver), implications from information-processing psychology, (D. J. Briars) building bridges between psychological and mathematics education research (F. K. Lester, Jr.), measuring problem solving outcomes (G. A. Goldin), a model for elementary teacher training in problem solving (J. F. LeBlanc), applied problem solving (R. Lesh, and M. Akerstrom), a concept-learning perspective (R. J. Shumway), and a statement of issues (H. L. Schoen). (MNS)
