Book The Metallurgy of Anodizing Aluminum

Download or read book The Metallurgy of Anodizing Aluminum written by Jude Mary Runge and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-02-01 with total page 492 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, the history of the concepts critical to the discovery and development of aluminum, its alloys and the anodizing process are reviewed to provide a foundation for the challenges, achievements, and understanding of the complex relationship between the aluminum alloy and the reactions that occur during anodic oxidation. Empirical knowledge that has long sustained industrial anodizing is clarified by viewing the process as corrosion science, addressing each element of the anodizing circuit in terms of the Tafel Equation. This innovative approach enables a new level of understanding and engineering control for the mechanisms that occur as the oxide nucleates and grows, developing its characteristic highly ordered structure, which impact the practical function of the anodic aluminum oxide.

Book excerpt: Excavating English is a curriculum designed for ages 12 and up. It explores the multicultural roots of the English language from 4000 BC to present day. The text provides over 150 pages of information, trivia, word games, activities and Internet links (including a playlist of supplemental videos). The first chapters give an introduction to linguistics, phonetics and phonology. The text then traces English from the shores of the Black Sea (Proto-Indo-European) through the history of the Germanic peoples, the Danes, the Anglo-Saxons, the Normans, and the great wordsmiths of the Renaissance. The history continues as English crosses the ocean to America, then is influenced by immigrants from all over the world. The text is not only informative, but is lively and interesting, and the activities included after each chapter make the curriculum very interactive.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Applied College Algebra is designed to provide students with a solid mathematical foundation enhanced by motivating and relevant applications. The interactive presentation of concepts supports students with a variety of learning styles and provides a comfortable transition to more advanced mathematics for all students, especially those coming from developmental courses. Chapter Prep Quizzes at the start of each chapter help students assess their prerequisite knowledge. Each question includes a section reference that students can use to get additional support and view related examples. Problem Solving Strategies to guide students in developing problem-solving skills appear at the start of each chapter. Clear Examples paired with Check Your Progress Questions are hallmark features of the Aufmann Interactive Method. After a worked-out example is presented, a similar Check Your Progress exercise helps students practice the concept. Full Solutions to Check Your Progress Questions appear in an appendix. The complete solution not only provides students full support in understanding new material, but serves as an additional example to students reviewing material for a test or quiz.

Book Resolution of Curve and Surface Singularities in Characteristic Zero

Download or read book Resolution of Curve and Surface Singularities in Characteristic Zero written by K. Kiyek and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-09-11 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Curves The Point of View of Max Noether Probably the oldest references to the problem of resolution of singularities are found in Max Noether's works on plane curves [cf. [148], [149]]. And probably the origin of the problem was to have a formula to compute the genus of a plane curve. The genus is the most useful birational invariant of a curve in classical projective geometry. It was long known that, for a plane curve of degree n having l m ordinary singular points with respective multiplicities ri, i E {1, . . . , m}, the genus p of the curve is given by the formula = (n - l)(n - 2) _ ~ "r. (r. _ 1) P 2 2 L. . ,. •• . Of course, the problem now arises: how to compute the genus of a plane curve having some non-ordinary singularities. This leads to the natural question: can we birationally transform any (singular) plane curve into another one having only ordinary singularities? The answer is positive. Let us give a flavor (without proofs) 2 on how Noether did it • To solve the problem, it is enough to consider a special kind of Cremona trans formations, namely quadratic transformations of the projective plane. Let ~ be a linear system of conics with three non-collinear base points r = {Ao, AI, A }, 2 and take a projective frame of the type {Ao, AI, A ; U}.
