Book Martin Bucer Briefwechsel Correspondance Band IX September 1532 Juni 1533

Download or read book Martin Bucer Briefwechsel Correspondance Band IX September 1532 Juni 1533 written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2013-11-07 with total page 523 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Martin Bucer Briefwechsel Correspondance Band XI Januar 1534 Juli 1534

Download or read book Martin Bucer Briefwechsel Correspondance Band XI Januar 1534 Juli 1534 written by Gury Schneider-Ludorff: and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-04-17 with total page 563 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Un temps une ville R forme written by Marc Lienhard and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-10-28 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Professor Lienhard deals here primarily with the first half of the 16th century, a momentous period which saw the rise and first triumphs of evangelical Christianity. His focus is upon the town of Strasbourg, one of the places where the Reformation first left its mark, and the articles combine to present an illuminating picture of the town's social and religious evolution over the period. Some approach the subject at an individual level, with studies of the protagonists in the events - such as Martin Bucer, Matthieu Zell or Thomas Murner - and their differing religious viewpoints. Other articles take a broader perspective, analysing the social and political background to the triumph of the Reform, the gradual emergence of a new order, and local attitudes towards the new dissidents, the Anabaptists. An important section of additional notes and comments completes the volume.

Book excerpt: The German legend of the Red Jews, a medieval conflation of the Ten Lost Tribes of Israel with the biblical destroyers Gog and Magog, articulated throughout the Middle Ages and well into the sixteenth century a fundamentally antisemitic strain of popular apocalypticism. This undigested piece of medievalia disappeared as more strictly biblical narratives of the End replaced medieval myth. As a result, the Red Jews have not been noticed by modern historians though they were a universally-known feature of German apocalyptic belief for over three centuries.

Book Cl ment Marot a Renaissance Poet Discovers the Gospel

Download or read book Cl ment Marot a Renaissance Poet Discovers the Gospel written by Michael Andrew Screech and published by BRILL. This book was released on 1994 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Clement Marot (1496-1544), a poet of distinction, is a unique witness to the effect of the Bible on French-speaking courts. He was admired by Francis I, protected by Margaret of Navarre, and by Renee, the French Duchess of Ferrara. His translations of the psalms came to dominate Huguenot worship, inspiring many imitators, not least in English. His commitment to Lutheran theology shines through his personal poetry - once his Scriptural allusions are recognised and interpreted. Clement Marot: A Renaissance Poet discovers the Gospel is a fundamental expansion and recasting for an English-reading public of Marot Evangelique, Michael Screech's study which brings out the appeal to this court poet of Lutheranism and martyrdom. Chapters also examine aspects of Marot's cult of the Virgin and a possible shift from Lutheranism to Calvinism.
