Book Review of Existing and Alternative Federal Dairy Programs

Download or read book Review of Existing and Alternative Federal Dairy Programs written by and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extract: Real milk prices 15-20 percent lower than in 1983 would approximately balance production and consumption under conditions projected for the dairy industry during the remainder of the eighties. Government purchase, storage, and disposal could effectively stabilize prices near this level, but these are wasteful means of raising prices and, thereby, enhancing producers' incomes. Other programs such as direct payments, supply control, and price discrimination can transfer income to farmers at less cost to society in the short run, but can lead to serious inefficiencies over time. Changes in the marketing order program to bring prices charged to processors and paid to producers more in line with the value of the services associated with the milk would contribute to the efficiency of the industry.

Living on a planet with finite resources, humanity is sustainable only if there is constant pursuit of innovation and creativity, not just for personal gain but also for the common good. This book provides concise definitions of ‘entrepreneurism’, ‘entrepreneurship’, ‘entrepreneur’ and ‘entrepreneurial’ for education and application within the framework of the market economy; acts as a signpost pointing the way toward balancing the short-term need for survival with the long-term need for sustainable growth; and serves as a philosophical beacon that will guide individuals, particularly, business leaders, toward actions in the interest of humanity.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. The author, a leading name in the environmental economics community, examines the problem of urban smog in cityscapes and the difficulty of achieving cost-effective controls. Analyzing the key areas of urban smog, low-level ozone and volatile organic compound emissions and their impact on health and welfare of communities this text assesses and evaluates the performance of emissions trading systems and suggests alternative market designs for incentive control of pollution. Taking a well-reasoned approach to the contentious area of the use of market incentives to achieve environmental goals, it provides a study of the pioneering cap-and-trade market, particularly focusing on its poor performance in Chicago. A perfect supplementary text postgraduates and researchers, this is also an essential read for all those interested in environmental economics.
