Book Thailand s Growth Path

Download or read book Thailand s Growth Path written by Kaspar Richter and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2006 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Thailand is one of the most successful developing countries. After decades of rapid growth, the economy rebounded quickly from the 1997-98 Asian crisis and is set to continue its expansion into the future. Nevertheless, there are doubts about the resilience of the Thai economy. The country appears to be on a lower growth projectory now than before the crisis. What growth can Thailand realistically expect? And what can the government do to sustain such growth into the future? Using a new methodology for identifying binding constraints to growth (Rodrik 2004 and Hausmann and others 2005), the author argues that Thailand's challenge is to maintain growth levels of 4 to 5 percent over the medium term. To achieve this goal, Thailand needs to continue its efforts of improving business infrastructure, trade integration, and skills, as well as intensifying its governance reforms."--World Bank web site.

Book Building Social Capital in Thailand

Download or read book Building Social Capital in Thailand written by Danny Unger and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1998-09-28 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Between 1984 and 1994 Thailand had the most rapid economic expansion in the world. This 1998 book offers an explanation of this successful record of economic growth in Thailand, and in Southeast Asia more generally. The book explains why Thai leaders adopted a market-driven strategy from the late 1950s, and also shows how the overseas Chinese in Thailand built on their community's social capital to overcome the market failures common to all developing countries. Unger takes an interdisciplinary approach, building on the literatures of social capital and embedded autonomy. He considers the unique organization of Thai society, and the impact this has had on the country's institutions, and their political and economic outcomes. The book includes detailed analysis of the financial and textile sectors, as well as the development of heavy industries and transportation infrastructure.

Book External Finance in Thailand s Development

Download or read book External Finance in Thailand s Development written by Karel Jansen and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-27 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Between 1987 and 1990 Thailand experienced double-digit growth, fed by high capital inflows. This made Thailand one of the first developing countries to recover from the recession of the 1980s. Since 1990 growth and capital inflows have continued at a high level. The book makes a detailed study of the macroeconomic impact of capital inflows during recent years and during an earlier period when growth, and capital inflows, were high, in the late 1970s. It is shown that the results of the recent period are more sustainable than those of the earlier period, due to the differences in the nature of capital inflows, in external conditions, and in economic policies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the mid-1960s, Thailand's growth performance has been exceptional. Although hard hit by the external shocks fo the late 1970s and the early 1980s that proved severely destabilizing to many developing countries, Thailand showed remarkable reslience: price stability was quickly restored, and the Thai economy emerged from this period with strong recovery in growth and investment, in an environment of overall macroeconomic stability. This study examines the evolution of investment and growth and Thailand's macroeconomic and structural policies, with a view to understanding the main factors that have led to this impressive economic performance.

Book International Trade and Abortive Growth in Thailand and Indo China

Download or read book International Trade and Abortive Growth in Thailand and Indo China written by Rajendra K. Sharma and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this paper is to show, through two case studies, that the transmision of growth impulses from the export sector to the rest of the economy might be weakened by a number of factors stemming from the initial resource endowment of the economy and the relative elasticities of supply of these resources. The consequences might be described as arrested or abortive growth. The case studies pertain to two countries in Southeast Asia, Thailand and former (French) Indo-China, covering the period of their entrance into world commerce in the second half of the nineteenth century to the Second World War.
