Book Love in English

Download or read book Love in English written by Maria E. Andreu and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2021-02-02 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fresh, joyful YA novel that is layered with themes of immigration, cultural identity, and finding your voice in any language. Sixteen-year-old Ana is a poet and a lover of language. Except that since she moved to New Jersey from Argentina, she can barely find the words to express how she feels. At first Ana just wants to return home. Then she meets Harrison, the very cute, very American boy in her math class, and discovers the universal language of racing hearts. But when she begins to spend time with Neo, the Greek Cypriot boy from ESL, Ana wonders how figuring out what her heart wants can be even more confusing than the grammar they’re both trying to master. After all, the rules of English may be confounding, but there are no rules when it comes to love. With playful and poetic breakouts exploring the idiosyncrasies of the English language, Love in English is witty and effervescent, while telling a beautifully observed story about what it means to become “American.”

Book Zazz s Secret Journal

Download or read book Zazz s Secret Journal written by Sherry Hutchison and published by Sherry Hutchison. This book was released on 2024-05-16 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I gently closed my secret journal upon finishing my last entry for Trinthnia Academy. I placed my signature, Zazzlina Kolia, Light Fae Princess on the last page. I closed my eyes for a moment as my mind drifted back to that first letter, four years ago, telling me to report here to school. Little did I know I’d become friends with mer people, dragons, pixies, elementals, canine shifters, feline shifters, angels. I passed vampires and witches in the hallway at school as if it happened every day. We watched as our beloved school and property started dying beneath our feet, as the water turned to blood; we all pulled together to save the school and the land. I’ve had to fight for my life as a Demon ‘took” me, turned my twin Tiana to a Witch. I opened my eyes as visions, some pleasant, many very painful flashed across my eyes as if on an invisible screen. The one good thing that happened to me at this strange school was now standing in front of me. My handsome, bonded fae Oberon who gently smiled down at me as he extended a hand to help me up. They call me Zazz. I am Fae. This is my story of survival.

Download or read book Secret Science written by María M. Portuondo and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2013-04-18 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The discovery of the New World raised many questions for early modern scientists: What did these lands contain? Where did they lie in relation to Europe? Who lived there, and what were their inhabitants like? Imperial expansion necessitated changes in the way scientific knowledge was gathered, and Spanish cosmographers in particular were charged with turning their observations of the New World into a body of knowledge that could be used for governing the largest empire the world had ever known. As María M. Portuondo here shows, this cosmographic knowledge had considerable strategic, defensive, and monetary value that royal scientists were charged with safeguarding from foreign and internal enemies. Cosmography was thus a secret science, but despite the limited dissemination of this body of knowledge, royal cosmographers applied alternative epistemologies and new methodologies that changed the discipline, and, in the process, how Europeans understood the natural world.
