Book Manganese and Its Compounds

Download or read book Manganese and Its Compounds written by Mildred Williams-Johnson and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A concise assessment of the risks to human health posed by exposure to manganese and its compounds. Manganese is an essential element found in rock, soil, water, and food. While food is the most important source of exposure for the general population, significant exposure can also occur via the consumption of contaminated drinking water. Anthropogenic sources of exposure arise from the use of manganese ore in the production of steel and dry cell batteries, in pesticides, and in the ceramics and glass manufacturing industries. Workers in these settings may be exposed to higher levels via inhalation of manganese dusts. Other groups at risk of higher exposures include infants given prepared infant foods and formulas, and people living in the vicinity of ferro-manganese or iron and steel manufacturing facilities, coal-fired power plants, or hazardous waste sites.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Chemistry of Manganese, Technetium and Rhenium deals with the chemistry of manganese, technetium, and rhenium and covers topics ranging from the occurrence and metallurgy of all three elements to their properties and compounds. Among the compounds considered are manganese halides, cyanides, and oxides as well as carbonyls and organometallic compounds, thiocyanate complexes, and chalcogenides. This volume is divided into three sections and opens with an overview of the history and occurrence of manganese, along with its metallurgy, uses, and properties. A variety of manganese compounds are examined, including halides and cyanides, sulfides and selenides, tellurides and borates, and nitrites and nitrates. The next two sections focus on technetium and rhenium, their discovery, isolation, and general properties. Compounds of both elements are described, including hydridic compounds, cyanide and thiocyanate complexes, and oxoacids and salts. Perrhenic acid and the perrhenates are also discussed, together with chalcogenides and refractory compounds, carbonyls, and organometallic derivatives. This book will be a valuable source of information for inorganic chemists.

Book Mn Manganese

    Book Details:
  • Author :
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2013-06-29
  • ISBN : 366208175X
  • Pages : 368 pages

Download or read book Mn Manganese written by and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present volume, "Manganese" D 5, continues the description of the manganese complexes. The arrangement of the complexes in these D volumes is based on the ligand type. The introduction, on p. 1, shows the classes of complexes, which have already been described in Chapters 1 to 21 in the Volumes D 1 (1979), D 2 (1980), D 3 (1982), and D 4 (1985). In Chapters 22 to 29 of this volume are treated complexes with amine-N-polycarboxylic acids, hydrazinecarboxylic acids, amides, hydrazides, derivatives of hydroxylamine (e.g., hydroxamic acids), oximes and nitroso compounds, azo compounds, and triazenes. A survey at the beginning of each of these sections gives information on the most characteristic features of the various complex types. Because of the complexometric relevance of the complexes with amine-N-polycarboxylic acids, there are many studies concerning the existence and the stability of the complexes in solution. Numerous X-ray investigations, reported for the complexes with urea or with amides and hydrazides of carboxylic acids, show the different structures of the compounds as a result of the varying bonding sites of the ligands. Complexes with hydrazides (e.g., with isonicotino hydrazide) are of special interest, due to their biological activity. Complexes with hydroxamic acids, oximes or azo compounds have been studied mostly in aqueous organic or pure organic solvents. The characteristic intense colors of many solutions are used for the analytical determination of manganese.
