Book excerpt: Originally published in 1975, Man and Wildlife traces the evolution of man from pre-hominid ancestors, and his influence in modifying the environment and its flora and fauna as technical knowledge grew. The development of civilization allowed man to dominate the environment; its advance led to the discovery and exploitation of the world’s resources. In spite of all the discoveries of science, man’s battle with the adverse forces of wildlife remain un-won and seems likely to stay so for the foreseeable future. The book traces the beginnings of environmental consciousness in the decades preceding its publication. It examines the extent of the human devastation of the environment, which has increased with rapid expansion of the world’s human population, and the belated efforts to halt the destruction and help wildlife preservation.

Book Agents Transmissible from Simians to Man

Download or read book Agents Transmissible from Simians to Man written by Manfred Brack and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 465 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The contacts between man and nonhuman primates enable the transmission of mic roorganisms from one species to the other. Such contact may occur at quite differ ent levels: man and nonhuman primates may share the same ecosystem including the presence of vectors in the countries of origins of monkeys and apes; the animals are captured to be sold or used for food; field researchers have to stay near the ani mals in the wild; an uncontrolled human population gets close enough to almost touch the animals in zoological gardens around the world; pet owners establish bodily contact and finally researchers doing surgery or necropsies are exposed to an increased number of pathogens liberated from the organs and body fluids. Usually monkeys and apes are more threatened with catching the microorgan isms indigenous to man than vice versa, but nevertheless outbreaks of true zoonoses with nonhuman primates as the source of infection have occurred. Also the retrans mission of originally human pathogens via nonhuman primates to man may pose a considerable risk to human health. Unfortunately the information on the different agents transmissible between man and his relatives is too disseminated for practical use, as it involves quite differ ent scientific disciplines such as virology, bacteriology, parasitology, primatology, laboratory animal science etc. It seemed therefore necessary to compile the current knowledge concerning this topic in a single publication. Human infections of simian origin may be caused by several viruses, bacteria, fungi or endoparasites. Ectoparasites, in comparison, are of little importance.

Book The Woman Is the Glory of the Man

Download or read book The Woman Is the Glory of the Man written by George Davis and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2012-07-12 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are we years away from the end of time, or perhaps months? The prophetic signs of this world clearly indicate the second coming of Christ. As in the days of Noah, the marriages of the day are an indicator of this event. When God created the marriage institution, He installed spiritual roles for the man and woman. When these roles would reverse themselves, intervention from God always followed. This has been an established pattern all through the Bible. It first manifested with Adam and Eve in the garden. It followed the downfall of the sons of God right before the flood. And it brought judgment to Solomon shortly after he began to worship the gods of his wives. The New Testament is full of warnings to the churches about following the spiritual authority given to the man and woman. These warnings are basically ignored today. The marriage relationship, when spiritually understood, clearly prophesies that we will experience the end times during our lifetime.
