Book The Symbolism of Freemasonry

Download or read book The Symbolism of Freemasonry written by Albert G. Mackey and published by Blurb. This book was released on 1882 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A legend differs from an historical narrative only in this-that it is without documentary evidence of authenticity. It is the offspring solely of tradition. Its details may be true in part or in whole. There may be no internal evidence to the contrary, or there may be internal evidence that they are altogether false. But neither the possibility of truth in the one case, nor the certainty of falsehood in the other, can remove the traditional narrative from the class of legends. It is a legend simply because it rests on no written foundation. It is oral, and therefore legendary.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Principles of Masonic Law is a treatise on the constitutional laws, usages and landmarks of Freemasonry. The book is very informative and thorough, and it treats a wide range of topics in Masonic jurisprudence, providing a good insight to the overall governance of freemasonry. Freemasonry consists of fraternal organizations that trace their origins to the local fraternities of stonemasons that from the end of the fourteenth century regulated the qualifications of stonemasons and their interaction with authorities and clients. The basic, local organizational unit of Freemasonry is the Lodge. These private Lodges are usually supervised at the regional level by a Grand Lodge or Grand Orient. The degrees of Freemasonry retain the three grades of medieval craft guilds, those of Apprentice, Journeyman or Fellow Craft, and Master Mason.

Download or read book The Symbolism of Freemasonry written by Albert Mackey and published by DigiCat. This book was released on 2023-11-17 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Symbolism of Freemasonry by Albert Mackey is about the symbolism involved with the Masonic order. Excerpt: "Of the various modes of communicating instruction to the uninformed, the masonic student is particularly interested in two; namely, the instruction by legends and that by symbols. It is to these two, almost exclusively, that he is indebted for all that he knows, and for all that he can know, of the philosophic system which is taught in the institution. All its mysteries and its dogmas, which constitute its philosophy, are entrusted for communication to the neophyte, sometimes to one, sometimes to the other of these two methods of instruction, and sometimes to both of them combined."

This book was released on 2019-02-08 with total page 1014 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 2019 Reprint of 1921 Edition. Two Volumes bound into One. Profusely Illustrated. Full facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition software. Secret societies like the Masons have fascinated those on the outside since the beginning of time, and here, in this extraordinary 1921 work, the mysteries and riddles of one of the most famous, the Freemasons, are exhaustively detailed. Complete with all the original illustrations, this two-volume work is an essential reference for anyone enthralled by secret societies and the arcane. Waite provides a complete view of the history, literature and myths surrounding Freemasonry, along with explanations of the society's secret rituals and symbolism. Waite also treats the subjects of alchemy, astrology, Kabbalism, ceremonial magic, animal magnetism and more. Arthur Edward Waite (1857-1942), commonly known as A. E. Waite, was an American-born British poet and scholarly mystic who wrote extensively on occult and esoteric matters and was the co-creator of the Rider-Waite Tarot deck. As his biographer R. A. Gilbert described him, "Waite's name has survived because he was the first to attempt a systematic study of the history of western occultism--viewed as a spiritual tradition rather than as aspects of proto-science or as the pathology of religion."

Book Encyclopedia Of Freemasonry

Download or read book Encyclopedia Of Freemasonry written by Albert G. Mackey and published by Jazzybee Verlag. This book was released on 2013-10-24 with total page 4439 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. Albert G. Mackey, also the author of The Lexicon of Freemasonry appears as author of this " Encyclopedia of Freemasonry and its Kindred Sciences," which, being a library in inself, superseded most of the Masonic works which have been tolerated by the craft—chiefly because none better could be obtained. Here, in one giant volume is a work which fulfils the hope which sustained the author through ten years' literary labor, that, under one cover he "would furnish every Mason who might consult its pages the means of acquiring a knowledge of all matters connected with the science, the philosophy, and the history of his order." For more than thirty years Dr. Mackey has devoted earnest and constant study and research to the history, the objects, and the condition of Masonry. In the present work, the crowning and successful result of a life's labors, he has received no assistance from any one. He says, " Every article was written by myself," and he adds, which would extenuate errors, had he fallen into any, "For twelve months, too, of the time occupied upon this work, I suffered from an affection of the sight, which forbade all use of the eyes for purposes of study. During that time, now happily passed, all authorities were consulted by the willing eyes of my daughters—all writing was done by their hands. I realized for a time the picture so often painted of the blind bard dictating his sublime verses to his daughters," and his preface closes with the words, "Were I to dedicate this work at all, my dedication should be—To Filial Affection." Up to the present time the modern literature of Freemasonry has been diffuse, lumbering, unreliable, and, out of all reasonable proportions.
