Book Statistics for Clinicians

Download or read book Statistics for Clinicians written by Ahmed Hassouna and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-03-03 with total page 641 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How much statistics does a clinician, surgeon or nurse need to know? This book provides an essential handbook to help appraise evidence in a scientific paper, to design and interpret the results of research correctly, to guide our students and to review the work of our colleagues. This title is written by a clinician exclusively for fellow clinicians, in their own language and not in statistical or epidemiological terms. When clinicians discuss probability, it is focussed on how it applies to the management of patients in the flesh and how they are managed in a clinical setting. Statistics for Clinicians does not overlook the basis of statistics, but reviews techniques specific to medicine with an emphasis on their application. It ensures that readers have the correct tools to hand, including worked examples, guides and links to online calculators and free software, enabling readers to execute most statistical calculations. This book will therefore be enormously helpful for many working across all fields of medicine at any stage of their career.

Book Analysis of Questionnaire Data with R

Download or read book Analysis of Questionnaire Data with R written by Bruno Falissard and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2011-09-21 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While theoretical statistics relies primarily on mathematics and hypothetical situations, statistical practice is a translation of a question formulated by a researcher into a series of variables linked by a statistical tool. As with written material, there are almost always differences between the meaning of the original text and translated text. Additionally, many versions can be suggested, each with their advantages and disadvantages. Analysis of Questionnaire Data with R translates certain classic research questions into statistical formulations. As indicated in the title, the syntax of these statistical formulations is based on the well-known R language, chosen for its popularity, simplicity, and power of its structure. Although syntax is vital, understanding the semantics is the real challenge of any good translation. In this book, the semantics of theoretical-to-practical translation emerges progressively from examples and experience, and occasionally from mathematical considerations. Sometimes the interpretation of a result is not clear, and there is no statistical tool really suited to the question at hand. Sometimes data sets contain errors, inconsistencies between answers, or missing data. More often, available statistical tools are not formally appropriate for the given situation, making it difficult to assess to what extent this slight inadequacy affects the interpretation of results. Analysis of Questionnaire Data with R tackles these and other common challenges in the practice of statistics.

Download or read book Chemometrics written by S.N. Deming and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1988-02-01 with total page 501 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most chemists, whether they are biochemists, organic, analytical, pharmaceutical or clinical chemists and many pharmacists and biologists need to perform chemical analysis. Consequently, they are not only confronted with carrying out the actual analysis, but also with problems such as method selection, experimental design, optimization, calibration, data acquisition and handling, and statistics in order to obtain maximum relevant chemical information. In other words: they are confronted with chemometrics. This book on chemometrics, written by some of the leaders in the field, aims to provide a thorough, up-to-date introduction to this subject. The reader is given the opportunity to acquaint himself with the tools used in this discipline and the way in which they are applied. Some practical examples are given and the reader is shown how to select the appropriate tools in a given situation. As such the book provides the means to approach and solve analytical problems strategically and systematically, without the need for the reader to become a fully-fledged chemometrician. The authors' aim was to write a tutorial book which would be useful to readers at every level in this field.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Several years ago a friendly looking young man walked into my office at the University Department of Dermatology in Cologne, introduced himself as a diplomate chemist, executive member of a family-owned, rather small German company manufacturing hair care products, and proposed to me straight forward to organize an international meeting on hair research. In view of the large number of new developments in the field something like this should be done after all, he said; he also promised to provide financial support. Such a meeting should be on the highest possible level, I said; and he agreed. I took the challenge and my visitor kept his promise. Three years later the First International Hair Congress was organized at the sophisticated new Congress Center in Hamburg, in which 630 participants from 36 countries were registered. After three and a half days of formal sessions, informal discussions, workshops and poster presentations our unanimous feeling was that this has been a most successful meeting. The young chemist was right. The idea was excellent. The growth and presence of hair and its distribution over the human body as a cosmetic attribute has become during the last two decades a matter of tremendous emotional significance. Hair can be rather easily formed according to one's sence of style, representing his personal image and his social feeling. If it becomes unacceptable or out of fashion, the hair style can be easily changed; the hair regrows as a biological requisite, without any additional cost.

Book Rhythmic Aspects of Behavior

Download or read book Rhythmic Aspects of Behavior written by Frederick M. Brown and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-09-07 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1982, this book provides rich evidence of the relevance of the temporal aspects of behavior. The generalized areas of learning, memory, operant scheduled behavior, task performance, vigilance, mood and motivation and their rhythmic components are explored in varying detail. The particularized measures range from on-the-job errors, through reading efficiency to milliseconds of change in reaction time in the laboratory. The subjects range from ants to older persons. Across this range of settings, subjects, and behaviors, the message is clear: there is an interaction between time and behavior.
