Book Pseudocompact Topological Spaces

Download or read book Pseudocompact Topological Spaces written by Michael Hrušák and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-07-19 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, intended for postgraduate students and researchers, presents many results of historical importance on pseudocompact spaces. In 1948, E. Hewitt introduced the concept of pseudocompactness which generalizes a property of compact subsets of the real line. A topological space is pseudocompact if the range of any real-valued, continuous function defined on the space is a bounded subset of the real line. Pseudocompact spaces constitute a natural and fundamental class of objects in General Topology and research into their properties has important repercussions in diverse branches of Mathematics, such as Functional Analysis, Dynamical Systems, Set Theory and Topological-Algebraic structures. The collection of authors of this volume include pioneers in their fields who have written a comprehensive explanation on this subject. In addition, the text examines new lines of research that have been at the forefront of mathematics. There is, as yet, no text that systematically compiles and develops the extensive theory of pseudocompact spaces, making this book an essential asset for anyone in the field of topology.

Download or read book Uniform Spaces written by John Rolfe Isbell and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1964-12-31 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Uniform spaces play the same role for uniform continuity as topological spaces for continuity. The theory was created in 1936 by A. Weil, whose original axiomatization was soon followed by those of Bourbaki and Tukey; in this book use is made chiefly of Tukey's system, based on uniform coverings. The organization of the book as a whole depends on the Eilenberg-MacLane notions of category, functor and naturality, in the spirit of Klein's Erlanger Program but with greater reach. The preface gives a concise history of the subject since 1936 and a foreword outlines the category theory of Eilenberg and MacLane. The chapters cover fundamental concepts and constructions; function spaces; mappings into polyhedra; dimension (1) and (2); compactifications and locally fine spaces. Most of the chapters are followed by exercises, occasional unsolved problems, and a major unsolved problem; the famous outstanding problem of characterizing the Euclidean plane is discussed in an appendix. There is a good index and a copious bibliography intended not to itemize sources but to guide further reading.

Book A Journey Through Nearly Pseudocompact and Nearly Realcompact Spaces

Download or read book A Journey Through Nearly Pseudocompact and Nearly Realcompact Spaces written by Biswajit Mitra and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2015-10-24 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The principal contents of this book covers algebraic descriptions of nearly pseudocompact and nearly realcompact spaces. It has been shown in this book that equality of some special kinds of rings represents a space to be nearly pseudocompact. Furthermore a space to be Nearly realcompact characterizes a class of ideals (SRM ideal) to be fixed and finally it has been established that within the class of locally compact spaces, C(X) determines X when X is nearly realcompact. Further it was clearly described that the 'local compactness' condition can never be dropped. This book covers study of some special type of maps on nearly realcompact spaces and a detailed investigation of a new space, namely, hard pseudocompact space. Finally at the end of last chapter an example of a normal space is instantiated where the space with its hyper-real growth is not normal.

Book Mathematical Analysis With Applications

Download or read book Mathematical Analysis With Applications written by Sandra Pinelas and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-05-26 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This proceedings volume covers research in key areas of applied mathematical analysis, and gathers works presented at the international conference “Concord-90,” in honor of the 90th birthday of Professor Constantin Corduneanu (1928-2018). The event – which Professor Corduneanu was able to attend – was held at Ural Federal University in Ekaterinburg, Russia, on July 26-28, 2018. Professor Corduneanu’s research in mathematical analysis spanned nearly seven decades and explored a range of important issues in the field, including studies of global existence, stability problems, and oscillation theory, with special emphasis on various classes of nonlinear equations. He published over two hundred articles and several books, including “Almost Periodic Oscillations and Waves” (Springer, 2009). In this volume the reader will find selected, peer-reviewed articles from seven fields of research – Differential Equations, Optimal Control and Stabilization; Stochastic Methods; Topology and Functions Approximation; Mathematical Biology and Bioinformatics; Mathematical Modeling in Mining; Mathematical Modeling in Economics; and Computer Science and Image Processing – which honor and reflect Professor Corduneanu’s legacy in the fields of oscillation, stability and control theory.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is designed for the reader who wants to get a general view of the terminology of General Topology with minimal time and effort. The reader, whom we assume to have only a rudimentary knowledge of set theory, algebra and analysis, will be able to find what they want if they will properly use the index. However, this book contains very few proofs and the reader who wants to study more systematically will find sufficiently many references in the book. Key features: • More terms from General Topology than any other book ever published• Short and informative articles• Authors include the majority of top researchers in the field• Extensive indexing of terms

Book Topological Groups and Related Structures

Download or read book Topological Groups and Related Structures written by A. V. Arkhangelʹskiĭ and published by atlantis press. This book was released on 2008 with total page 797 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a large amount of material, both classic and recent (on occasion, unpublished) about the relations of Algebra and Topology. It therefore belongs to the area called Topological Algebra. More specifically, the objects of the study are subtle and sometimes unexpected phenomena that occur when the continuity meets and properly feeds an algebraic operation. Such a combination gives rise to many classic structures, including topological groups and semigroups, paratopological groups, etc. Special emphasis is given to tracing the influence of compactness and its generalizations on the properties of an algebraic operation, causing on occasion the automatic continuity of the operation. The main scope of the book, however, is outside of the locally compact structures, thus distinguishing the monograph from a series of more traditional textbooks. The book is unique in that it presents very important material, dispersed in hundreds of research articles, not covered by any monograph in existence. The reader is gently introduced to an amazing world at the interface of Algebra, Topology, and Set Theory. He/she will find that the way to the frontier of the knowledge is quite short -- almost every section of the book contains several intriguing open problems whose solutions can contribute significantly to the area.

Book Recent Progress in General Topology II

Download or read book Recent Progress in General Topology II written by M. Husek and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2002-11-13 with total page 652 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents surveys describing recent developments in most of the primary subfields of General Topology and its applications to Algebra and Analysis during the last decade. It follows freely the previous edition (North Holland, 1992), Open Problems in Topology (North Holland, 1990) and Handbook of Set-Theoretic Topology (North Holland, 1984). The book was prepared in connection with the Prague Topological Symposium, held in 2001. During the last 10 years the focus in General Topology changed and therefore the selection of topics differs slightly from those chosen in 1992. The following areas experienced significant developments: Topological Groups, Function Spaces, Dimension Theory, Hyperspaces, Selections, Geometric Topology (including Infinite-Dimensional Topology and the Geometry of Banach Spaces). Of course, not every important topic could be included in this book. Except surveys, the book contains several historical essays written by such eminent topologists as: R.D. Anderson, W.W. Comfort, M. Henriksen, S. Mardeŝić, J. Nagata, M.E. Rudin, J.M. Smirnov (several reminiscences of L. Vietoris are added). In addition to extensive author and subject indexes, a list of all problems and questions posed in this book are added. List of all authors of surveys: A. Arhangel'skii, J. Baker and K. Kunen, H. Bennett and D. Lutzer, J. Dijkstra and J. van Mill, A. Dow, E. Glasner, G. Godefroy, G. Gruenhage, N. Hindman and D. Strauss, L. Hola and J. Pelant, K. Kawamura, H.-P. Kuenzi, W. Marciszewski, K. Martin and M. Mislove and M. Reed, R. Pol and H. Torunczyk, D. Repovs and P. Semenov, D. Shakhmatov, S. Solecki, M. Tkachenko.
