Book Electric Bicycles

Download or read book Electric Bicycles written by William C. Morchin and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2005-11-25 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Design or build a battery-powered electric bicycle For much of the world, bicycles are a transportation mainstay. Electric bicycles--powered by a rechargeable battery pack--are proven to deliver the highest possible energy efficiency, even compared to pedal bikes. A transportation alternative to fossil fuels, electric bicycles are fast catching on, in part because they don't require factory assembly. End-users can easily construct them with available components. The text reveals important techniques, data, and examples that allow readers to judge various propulsion setups--used in both home- and factory-made bikes--and estimate speed and travel distance for each. Numerous charts clearly present the costs, benefits, and trade-offs between both commercial and user-converted models. Key features include: Estimating motor-performance for wind, hill, and cruising power requirements Estimating battery capacity and a thorough description of battery charging Motor and motor-control options Evaluating motor-to-wheel coupling options Placement of propulsion components Configurations and performance How systems-engineering techniques can produce electric-bicycle designs that have long travel range and low life-cycle cost Testing Developments to watch A comprehensive resource for harnessing innovation, Electric Bicycles is the definitive practical guide to taking full advantage of this exciting alternative energy technology.

The book provides sociological insights into e-bike mobility in China and discusses politics, social practices and larger issues of mobility transition in urban China. Taking an accessible approach to the subject, the book identifies the main sociospatial conflicts regarding the use of e-bikes and discusses why electric two-wheeler mobility is important for the future of urban China and urban transportation globally. This book will be an invaluable read for urban geographers and transportation researchers, but also for academics and general readers interested in Chinese Studies, specifically in the area of urban mobility in China.

Book Sodium Ion Batteries

Download or read book Sodium Ion Batteries written by Xiaobo Ji and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2023-10-31 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sodium-Ion Batteries Practice-oriented guide systematically summarizing and condensing the development, directions, potential, and core issues of sodium-ion batteries Sodium-Ion Batteries begins with an introduction to sodium-ion batteries (SIBs), including their background, development, definition, mechanism, and classification/configuration, moving on to summarize cathode and anode materials, discuss electrolyte, separator, and other key technologies and devices, and review practical applications and conclusions/prospects of sodium-ion batteries. The text promotes the idea that SIBs can be a good complement, or even a strong competitor, to more mainstream energy technologies in specific application scenarios, including but not limited to large-scale grid energy storage, distributed energy storage, and low-speed electric vehicles, by virtue of considerable advantages in cost-effectiveness compared with lithium-ion, lead-acid, and vanadium redox flow batteries. This book delves into what we have done, where we are, and how we should proceed in regards to the advancement of SIBs, in order to make the technology more applicable in real-world situations. Specific sample topics covered in Sodium-Ion Batteries include: Electrochemical test techniques, including cyclic voltammetry, galvanostatic charge-discharge, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy Advanced characterization techniques and theoretical calculation, covering imaging and microscopy, and the synchrotron radiation x-ray diffraction technique Designing and manufacturing SIBs, covering types of cells (cylindrical, soft-pack, and psitmatic), and design requirements for cells Performance tests and failure analysis, covering electrochemical and safety performances test, failure phenomenon, failure analysis method, and cost estimation Solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, covering principles of ssNMR and shift ranges for battery materials A complete review of an exciting energy storage technology that is undergoing a crucial development stage, Sodium-Ion Batteries is an essential resource for materials scientists, inorganic and physical chemists, and all other academics, researchers, and professionals who wish to stay on the cutting edge of energy technology.

Book Bicycle Urbanism

    Book Details:
  • Author : Rachel Berney
  • Publisher : Routledge
  • Release : 2018-02-07
  • ISBN : 131717433X
  • Pages : 240 pages

Download or read book Bicycle Urbanism written by Rachel Berney and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-02-07 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over recent decades, bicycling has received renewed interest as a means of improving transportation through crowded cities, improving personal health, and reducing environmental impacts associated with travel. Much of the discussion surrounding cycling has focused on bicycle facility design—how to best repurpose road infrastructure to accommodate bicycling. While part of the discussion has touched on culture, such as how to make bicycling a larger part of daily life, city design and planning have been sorely missing from consideration. Whilst interdisciplinary in its scope, this book takes a primarily planning approach to examining active transportation, and especially bicycling, in urban areas. The volume examines the land use aspects of the city—not just the streetscape. Illustrated using a range of case studies from the USA, Canada, and Australia, the volume provides a comprehensive overview of key topics of concern around cycling in the city including: imagining the future of bicycle-friendly cities; integrating bicycling into urban planning and design; the effects of bike use on health and environment; policies for developing bicycle infrastructure and programs; best practices in bicycle facility design and implementation; advances in technology, and economic contributions.

  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2013
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 1150 pages

Download or read book United States Code written by United States and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 1150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The United States Code is the official codification of the general and permanent laws of the United States of America. The Code was first published in 1926, and a new edition of the code has been published every six years since 1934. The 2012 edition of the Code incorporates laws enacted through the One Hundred Twelfth Congress, Second Session, the last of which was signed by the President on January 15, 2013. It does not include laws of the One Hundred Thirteenth Congress, First Session, enacted between January 2, 2013, the date it convened, and January 15, 2013. By statutory authority this edition may be cited "U.S.C. 2012 ed." As adopted in 1926, the Code established prima facie the general and permanent laws of the United States. The underlying statutes reprinted in the Code remained in effect and controlled over the Code in case of any discrepancy. In 1947, Congress began enacting individual titles of the Code into positive law. When a title is enacted into positive law, the underlying statutes are repealed and the title then becomes legal evidence of the law. Currently, 26 of the 51 titles in the Code have been so enacted. These are identified in the table of titles near the beginning of each volume. The Law Revision Counsel of the House of Representatives continues to prepare legislation pursuant to 2 U.S.C. 285b to enact the remainder of the Code, on a title-by-title basis, into positive law. The 2012 edition of the Code was prepared and published under the supervision of Ralph V. Seep, Law Revision Counsel. Grateful acknowledgment is made of the contributions by all who helped in this work, particularly the staffs of the Office of the Law Revision Counsel and the Government Printing Office"--Preface.
