Download or read book War Baby love Child written by Laura Kina and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: War Baby / Love Child examines hybrid Asian American identity through a collection of essays, artworks, and interviews at the intersection of critical mixed race studies and contemporary art. The book pairs artwork and interviews with 19 emerging, mid-career, and established mixed race/mixed heritage Asian American artists, including Li-lan and Kip Fulbeck, with scholarly essays exploring such topics as Vietnamese Amerasians, Korean transracial adoptions, and multiethnic Hawai'i. As an increasingly ethnically ambiguous Asian American generation is coming of age in an era of "optional identity," this collection brings together first-person perspectives and a wider scholarly context to shed light on changing Asian American cultures. This multiauthor volume features a foreward by Kent A. Ono, a co-authored preface and introductory essay by the editors, 19 original artist interviews conducted by the editors, and original essays from Wei Ming Dariotis and the contributing authors: Camilla Fojas, Stuart Gaffney, Rudy Guevarra, Jr., Eleana J. Kim, Richard Lou, Margo Machida, Stephen Murphy-Shigematsu, Lori Pierce, Cathy J. Schlund-Vials, Ken Tanabe, and Wendy Thompson-Taiwo. Laura Kina is associate professor of art, media, and design at DePaul University. Wei Ming Dariotis is associate professor of Asian American studies at San Francisco State University. "War Baby / Love Child is an interesting, original, and innovative project that expands the field of Asian American studies by using visual art as a point of entry and analysis for the discipline." -Mark Johnson, editor of Asian American Art: A History, 1850-1970 "One of the strengths of this original volume is its holistic combination of interviews with premier fine artists along with the textual, historical, and scholarly context provided by established and emerging scholars in Asian American Studies." -Nitasha Sharma, author of Hip Hop Desis: South Americans, Blackness, and Global Race Consciousness

Download or read book America s Songs written by Philip Furia and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2006-05-12 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: America's Songs tells the stories behind the most beloved popular songs of the last century. We all have songs that have a special meaning in our lives; hearing them evokes a special time or place. Little wonder that these special songs have become enduring classics. Nothing brings the roarin '20s to life like Tea for Two or I'm just Wild About Harry; the Great Depression is evoked in all of its pain and misery in songs like Brother Can You Spare a Dime?; God Bless America revives the powerful hope that American democracy promised to the world during the dark days of World War II; Young at Heart evokes the postwar optimism of the '50s. And then there are the countless songs of love, new romance, and heartbreak: As Time Goes By, Always, Am I Blue...the list is endless. Along with telling the stories behind these songs, America's Songs suggests, simply and succinctly, what makes a song great. The book illuminates the way each great song melds words and music - sentiment and melody - into a seamless whole. America's Songs also traces the fascinating but mysterious process of collaboration, the give-and-take between two craftsmen, a composer and a lyricist, as they combined their talents to create a song. For anyone interested in the history of the songs that America loves, America's Songs will make for fascinating reading.

Download or read book Living Happily As An Adult Baby written by Dylan Lewis and published by AB Discovery. This book was released on 2020-09-20 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding. Knowledge. Insight. It is the goal of most people and humanity in general to understand and to gain knowledge. To understand our natural world. To understand space. To understand those things so tiny we can never see them. We want to understand what other people are saying, insight into what they are feeling and what makes them tick. For most people, it is natural to want to understand more about a wide variety of topics and disciplines. Perhaps the most important understanding of them all is the knowledge of self. Adult babies have traditionally not fared well in the area of understanding of ourselves. The few professional attempts to explain ABDL behaviour and thinking have been less than helpful and often insulting and deeply offensive. Being described as a paraphilia alongside and adjacent to paedophilia and other serious disorders has been the nightmare that has haunted the community for a generation. Slowly however, the light has been dawning on the extraordinary world of the adult baby. The first step was the recognition that being an adult baby is no mere affectation, fetish or odd choice of behaviour. It was the understanding that the baby self is a genuine and subjectively real identity. Not a thing, not a concept or a feeling, but an identity. A few professionals have belatedly drifted onto the scene and made a few inroads, but they have been well behind the small group of hard-working ABDLs themselves who have sought to build a body of understanding on who we are. Knowing who we are is the key to success, happiness and the ability to move forward. The works of B. Terrance Grey, Rosalie and Michael Bent led the way to building an intellectual basis of understanding of who Adult babies are. Then came Dylan Lewis, whose canon of work in this area has no peer. This new book – Living Happily as an Adult Baby – makes a promise in its title that is almost obscene in its arrogance. Adult Babies have often struggled with the power of their baby identity and happiness - especially long-term happiness – has often eluded them. This work is commended to all adult babies, their family and friends as it seeks to further humanity’s understanding of this most complex identity structure. The Adult Baby.
